A female pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle on state Highway 242 near Concord late Thursday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision was reported around 11:30 p.m. on southbound Highway 242 south of Clayton Road.

A gray Lexus vehicle was going south when it hit the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP officials said. Her name was not available from the Contra Costa County coroner’s office as of Friday afternoon and investigators did not say why she was in the highway lanes.

The Lexus driver was not injured in the collision but a passenger in the car reported minor injuries, according to the CHP.

It’s always a terrible thing when someone dies. No matter what their background.

Schmee, as you have shown here, you have little respect for other people’s lives.

I’ll bet few people will respect your life.

What an awful thing to say!!! She was still someone to somebody how would you feel if someone said that about you mom!!! Or sister or daughter! Have some respect. Wow.

Well, if those people made bad decisions to get so strung out that they walked on a freeway in the dark, then sure. I feel bad for the poor driver and the deductible they are out to fix their car.

Exactly

I agree completely

You obviously don’t have the whole story, so stop speculating. Show some respect! Of course that probably won’t happen. No compassion at all.

Unfortunately this almost happened to me and several other vehicles (hitting someone there). A person was attempting to leapfrog across the lanes, only it was Northbound. Very scary driving around that spot.

If she was in a lane she sort of made nightmares for the driver. Years ago I picked up a girl that was thrown out of a car on the freeway. She was strange but I gave her a ride home anyway. I could almost understand why she got kicked out.

When I drive to work at 4am, I go down Contra Costa Blvd and get on the freeway by the theater. There are always transient types shuffling around in the middle of the night, usually desssed in all dark clothing with no reflectors. The slow shuffle is slow enough that it doesn’t immediately catch the eye. They cross the street whether or not they have the green light. I assume there are camps between the freeway and the stores on the east side, along the gas line right of way.

It is awful that we live in a society that allows people to live like this and calls it compassion or tolerant.

RIP to the woman, whatever the story turns out to be.

That is a lifestyle choice. They choose that. Actions have consequences.

Probably one of the crack addicts that live around there

I was coming home after the CVCHS graduation and was among the first cars stopped behind the police blockade of the road. It was obvious that something terrible had happened as 3 fire trucks made their way to the scene along with additional police support. Couldn’t really see much up ahead because of all the flashing lights.
I am so sorry for everyone involved. Some family’s life has been forever changed because of this death.

I don’t even care…

Jaywalking is no longer a citable offense. Is hitting a pedestrian illegal if you have the right of way?

California’s a Pedestrian Right of Way state…

California allows the homeless to play frogger on the freeways and city streets. Perhaps, they are responsible for allowing these insane individuals to roam freeways while endangering others and themselves. They have signs indicating pedestrians and bicyclists on the freeway.

Being allowed to jay walk is another stupid law that endangers the least intelligent sector of our citizens. Where do the law makers come up with these stupid, dangerous laws? Maybe they are also the least intelligent citizens of our communitys.
