Gov. Newsom Unveils Plan For State To Use 100 Percent Clean Energy By 2045

Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday unveiled his administration’s updated plan to quicken the pace of California’s full abandonment of the fossil fuel industry.

Standing in front of the old Ford Motor Company assembly plant in Richmond that’s now home to a company making a fully electric alternative to diesel generators, Newsom said the state will need to add 148,000 megawatts of clean energy by 2045 to reach that goal.

It’s an ambitious target that will require a roughly 422 percent increase in the amount of clean energy the state now uses.
To take California to a fully renewable electricity portfolio, Newsom’s “California’s Clean Energy Transition Plan” lays out four broad strategies, including planning for an increase in electricity demand that’s “responsive to real-time supply conditions,” building a “diverse clean energy portfolio,” ensuring the electric grid can continue to deliver power during extreme weather events and focusing on affordability.

“All these experts, all these fancy folks, think tanks, all these fossil fuel funded experts and pundits said it just simply can’t be done. ‘They don’t have a plan. They don’t have a strategy. There’s no way they can handle this,'” Newsom said.

“Remember, we were the first state in America, one of the first jurisdictions in the world, to lay out a marker that all vehicles sold in the state of California will be alternative fueled by 2035,” he said. “They were mocking us just a few years ago and now the rest of the world, including the (European Union) themselves, have followed us.”

Newsom said the state has already reached several of its clean energy goals, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels, having 37 percent of the state’s clean energy coming from renewable sources and helping put 1.5 million zero-emissions vehicles on the road.

But he also said the state is in a race against the intractable, chaotic pace of climate change as it’s buffeted by extreme heat, drought, wildfires and floods.

“And as a consequence of that, we need to alter our approach and strategy to address these extremes,” he said.

While he bemoaned California’s sluggish and burdensome permitting process, which he said is one of the main barriers to reaching his goal of using 100 percent clean electricity, he said his administration is supporting 11 bills in the state Legislature that would help streamline the environmental and permit process and shorten the amount of time that courts could hear legal challenges.

He also said he has a 10-year “pathway” to updating the transmission grid via 45 projects and $7.3 billion in investments.

“As it relates to process: enough. We need to build,” Newsom said. “We need to get things done. This is not an ideological exercise. We’re running against time.”

Can we please replace him ASAP ? And just think he’s going to be a very strong candidate for president soon – we’re in deep do-do ☹️☹️

I don’t think he will be that strong of a candidate outside of California. I have friends and family across the US, none speak of him with any bit of respect.

It doesn’t matter if other states want him or not. “They” will just rig the election and make him president if “they” want to!

“And my mommy just gave me a book on dinosaurs. They are very interesting”. Yup, many of the “woke” sound like 5 year olds. They have a lot to learn or if they once knew things it’s been scrubbed from their brains.

Blah, blah, blah, where’s his plan? I didn’t read anything that gave specifics. What I want to know is, what is the alternative to petroleum? Newsom cannot name one man-made product that does not require the use of petroleum. Everything uses some form of petroleum. Does he think Ford doesn’t use lubricants in their manufacturing process? Every part of an EV, no matter where it’s made, is made by a machine that must be lubricated.
I’m curious, what kind of machinery does Newsom use to bottle his wines?

Say his vision is accomplished by 2045, somehow. We all have solor panels on our heads and windmills in our butts, our cars run on unicorn farts and good wishes. So climate change will be fixed, right? Oh yeah, all the models show almost no impact on climate even if the whole country, heck all of the west goes zero carbon. In the meantime, everything we do will cost thrice what it costs in India and China, and the quality of life will have fallen dramatically as no one can afford frills and fun stuff, their entire budget going towards just getting by.

Less smog and air pollution will be nice, but everything else will be worse.

Brilliant plan. Every day he gives me a reason to be thankful I was able to escape his dystopian hell scape.

Broad generalities no specifics, another vacuous photo OP press conference.
.
Kinda like that one back on June 30, 2004 when he promised worst of homelessness in SF would be gone in 10 years. https://tinyurl.com/4k9f6mpx
.
Hmm, where will the extra power needed for times of peak load come from twice a day?
Where will the extra power come from on days of 100 plus temperatures?
Where is the scalable ‘clean’ power source CA will need to meet newsom’s “goals” ? ? ?

He’s an imbecile..he’s so stupid, actually all his supporters are really the stupid ones for voting for him. I laugh at them all.

Thats funny just read a story on how all of he older cars are shipped overseas. So people that weren’t driving before are buying them. So in away getting rid of our gas cars is creating more pollution. Just in another part of the world. Thanks Gavin

Sadly that’s true.

Nancy jr(aka Garven) an actor dictating how a potentially world changing event needs to happen, as he himself has absolutely no idea what he’s talking about. Goven has no shame, no morals and will say anything to promote himself.

20

Yep and this ass flys around in carbon spewing private jets. Just like all of his pals in Hollywood and circle of friends.

We could run the state on Governor Karen’s BS.

11

Can’t believe we couldn’t recall this ass-hat!

20

We are as close to complete clean energy in 2045 as we are to a paperless bathroom.

13

Where is Gav going to get the grease for his hair?

18

Here’s the contents of brylcreem.

“Water, Paraffinum Liquidum, Beeswax, Petrolatum, Behenic Acid, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Hydrogenated Rapeseed Oil, Hydrolysed Wheat Protein, Hydrolysed Wheat Starch, Castor Oil, Lanolin Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Propylene Glycol, Calcium Hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Fragrance.”

Gavin uses Swahili Sheen; it’s the equitable product of choice by caucasians wishing to be appear ethnic and hip.
Which by the way, he is now manufacturing in China and importing to the U.S. Get it while it’s cool.

If this Newsom green stuff was a good idea, wouldn’t an actual leader be able to easily convince us of that and we would all be out buying electric cars and such instead of enduring threats, rules, and outlawing things?

11

What’s Newscum going to do about the 75 or so volcanos that are active everyday around the world. What he proposes does as much good as pissing in the ocean, you can’t mess with Mother Nature.

13

Thank you for that expert and profound analysis, I do think however that the constables would frown on your intentions in regards to the sea.

Now wait just a danged minute,
.
We went from plastic straws in paper wrappers
to paper straws in plastic wrappers . . . . . . . that should count for sumthin’

12

By now we all should realize that these “ecological” ideas are promoted by manufacturers who have something to gain from it. IOW, it’s not about saving the environment.

Grandiose hogwash. Meanwhile your cost of living is skyrocketing. You want cleaner energy Gavin? How bout you stop allowing all immigration? You know why there’s a housing crisis gee maybe an influx of millions of immigrants. You wanna know why your wages are stagnant? Immigration its stagnated wages for 40 plus years. No cheap labor means the companies have to pay a livable wage. Tell your boss joe to re open the keystone XL pipe line to get oil back to 40 bucks a barrel and stop devaluing our dollar by printing more money. Less ppl less pollution what a concept. These are not leaders these are parasites. They are going to forever develop and build for greed and flood us with more ppl etc it’s all so tiresome btw the republicans are in on selling us all out just as bad just a tad slower.

10

Well said!!

Um, the Keystone XL pipeline was never completed so you just can’t turn it on. That said, Canada has dropped the idea of the XL plan so the transport of tar sands to China is a done deal, not happening.

MartineizMike We should meet for a few drinks and music some place where the chickens all lay hard boiled eggs and have some laughs.

Gavin, where do you think rubber for electric car tires comes from? How ‘bout asphalt for the roads? All the plastic inside the cars? The grease for your hair?

His clean engird vision can only be accomplished on a foundation of nuclear energy. If that is what he is proposing I’m all for it. Otherwise, he can take a hike.

Obviously “engird” should be “energy”. Can we get an edit button?

I guarantee keeping my trees rather than installing solar panels to cut my AC costs will not cause toxic emissions. If you are serious about global warming, ban air travel and college professors from burning our forests. if you want to catch the arsonists, scan the satellite photos.
