QUESTION: Do you think Ygnacio Valley Rd. needs at least one more lane in each direction between Pine Hollow Rd. and Oak Grove Rd., or do you think it’s good the way it is?
Talk about it.
.
Only if it were a dedicated and tolled express lane.
.
No freebies or exeptions for HOV/carpools.
.
EVERYONE PAYS.
.
No – not if it’s only between those two roads… YVR is already clogged west of Oak Grove …it’s 3 lanes but gets traffic from Oak grove north & south and other local “feeder” streets (Wiget, Wimbleton, Bancroft / Walnut, etc. Yvr would need to to widened all the way to the freeway – which won’t happen imho
Nope, no more building or widening of roads if people don’t like it that’s too bad they can move..we did..
I always thought they should put a freeway that is lowered into the ground around the south side of Walnut Creek. At the edge of Mt Diablo park. Maybe go as far as Clayton, maybe all the way to Pittsburg. More lanes on Ygnacio won’t help. Nothing is going to be done because the state is out of money, so get used to the traffic on Ygnacio.
I agree a freeway to Antioch is needed. Although the fake environmental lawsuits from those in Walnut Creek would stop it cold
CA is just too slow to build a new freeway
.
FYI.
.
There was a plan long ago for a freeway (The Foothill Expressway) to go along the base of Mt. Diablo between the Northgate area and (I think) San Ramon.
.
… and that’s why Ygnacio Valley Road is packed to the gills during commute times.
.
Traffic on YVR was ok until the building out in Baypoint, Pittsburg, Antioch, Brentwood, Oakley… etc …you can see the flow through commute traffic if you’re at the intersection of YVR & Clayton Rd in the early morning and late afternoon
Spot on!
Absolutely not. 4 Lanes is more than enough and the speeders and light runners would be even worse.
It wouldn’t hurt to have an extra lane in that area. No major impact to widening the road in that area.
More Bike lanes are needed, just like the other bike lanes that clutter up Concord and no one ever uses.
Once car drivers realize everyone else is using bikes, they will gladly give up their cars.
That’s just human nature.
(Thank you, Sen Feinstein)
No. Not going to put up with that kind of construction for months and months.
People just need to be courteous on the road and pull over for emergency vehicles and have some
patience.
We don’t need more lanes. What we need are fewer cars on the road. I’m not sure of the reason but public transportation has never worked or done very well in this county. Seems to me if they made PT much more affordable and efficient they’d make up for it in volume, plus, less traffic, less pollution, less road rage, fewer accidents etc etc. I’ll admit I haven’t ridden a Bart train but once in the last twenty years(A’s game). And I’m sure it was my last time as well.
Building a few key overpasses on YVR would speed things along
Nope. As other posters stated above, what’s needed is a bypass. This need will continue to increase as the bay area gets pushed further east.
There are times YVR traffic runs at freeway speeds. Also, there are an increasing number of 15 year old cars with dealer plates, 24” rims, and limo tinted windows cracked just enough to let the smoke out or provide a clear shot. I’d like to think these are just fun loving individuals, but it’s likely adaptive behavior to assume otherwise. In both events, a stronger law enforcement presence would be most beneficial for the safety conscious.
And finally, I sure wish Teslas came with turn signal indicators as standard equipment. Obviously they are optional as so few seem to have them.
This. Highway 4 and Ygnacio are both parking lots at commute times. Increasing capacity on the latter will just decrease it a little on the former. Draining traffic from a freeway to a stoplighted surface street is a dumb idea. The only fix is much widened existing freeways, which won’t happen, or a new bypass freeway, which really won’t happen.
Maybe if Musk’s boring company ever goes anywhere, a long tunnel bypass might become viable, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. An underground freeway that runs under Ygnacio that has off ramps up to the surface every few miles would be pretty great.
How about a transponder baded system placed at the beginning of Kirker Pass Rd on the Pittsburg side. Any car passing to go on to Concord would be charged a fee, say $25.00, unless the driver lived in the town of Pittsburg. That would orobably stop most of the hwy 4 traffic you speak of.
No.
I used to be excited and optimistic when they would widen a road or add another tunnel Etc. But the relief was short in time and soon things were jammed up just as bad. So no keep it the way it is.
Ahh commuters..I have never commuted, I’ve always lived close to work by choice. It would suck to commute in traffic or have to take BART, that’s no way to have a happy life..
Bad idea, all traffic will still be funneled into WC defeating the purpose of express lane. WC is nimby by its greedy nature, I don’t see it happening any time soon.
NIMBY. That’s what all those sanctuary city mayors have become.
No. We need more walkable areas.
