@S
Coffee cake doesn’t taste like coffee so perhaps tea cake doesn’t taste like tea and I may actually like it. I don’t care for tea one bit so I gave a down-vote, but now I want my vote back.

There you are.

Haven’t heard of either. I use to like Earl Grey tea, strong and with milk, and also English Breakfast black tea with lemon, now I just drink black tea, very strong, no lemon or milk, but some sugar otherwise it is too bitter.

“B”

I haven’t sold a single copy of my autobiography.
That’s the story of my life.

I once read a list of hilarious idiotic “life hacks”. Here’s the best one: “Old, unwanted telephone directories make ideal personal address books. Simply cross out the names and addresses of people you don’t know.”
There was another one about turning a ladder over to walk down, I think.
Any others?

Attn: STARBUCKS

I’m not a regular customer, but has it always been the business practice of Starbucks drive thru to shove the swipe, insert, tap for payment in your car window and say, “ select the TIP “
Does anyone else find this a bit offensive?

13

OMG. We were just talking about this at my work. This is how they greet you now. We all said it felt very forced. Rather bold to just demand you to tip before the transaction.

2

Dont’ tip. Put a big fat zero. They’ll get the message.
Not a fan of tip jars that sit in front of you when you order and all the cashier does is punch a few buttons…. Sorry Nope!

I’m not a regular Starbuck customer either, but I pay with cash and don’t get asked to tip.

6

Same here. I do leave a tip in the tip jar, most of the time, and always at holidays
Why would anyone get upset over a tip jar?? All receipts you get from eating establishments have a space for tips. Most of the time if l pay for the meat with a card l will leave the tip in cash.

Starbucks…I laugh at anyone who actual likes their crap..

To each their own. I’m told Peets Coffee is stronger, but l prefer coffee that is not too strong
Besides Starbucks have many different drinks and flavors.

Once in a while I’ll have a Java chip Frappuccino from Starbucks. Then I go home and work like crazy on projects while the buzz lasts. That stuff is like jet fuel.

I drink a lot of coffee! And the fact is that I can’t afford to pay for coffee by the cup, whether it’s from a barista or a K-cup dispenser.

It seems that everyone wants a tip these days. I never tip for take out, that is not personal service. The amount servers want for dining in is getting ridiculous and the service is getting worse.

If you don’t get good service don’t tip, or don’t tip much. If the service is good l don’t mind leaving a nice tip. Being a server is a hard job.

Book report: Have Space Suit – Will Travel, Robert A Heinlein, 1958. Heinlein did a lot juvenile stories and this is one of them. Teen boy wins a real, but used, space suit. Works on it getting in perfect condition. Story get a bit silly from there. Recommend it for 12 to 13 year olds. Adults might read it just for fun.

@Dorothy
Love the title.

Your Top 5(?) favorite commercials you can recall. We all have some commercials, many from long ago, that we smile as we recall them.

1) Me and my dad always laughed at the “You can call me Ray, or you can call me Jay….”
2) In college, the Jordan/Bird “Nuthin’ but net” (from the Hancock)
3) the post 9-11 Clydesdale commercial.
4) Darth Vader kid starting the car
5) Hershey Kiss “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” jingle

Doritos “Ball over the fence” ad featuring MC Hammer.

Currently: Age is just a number and mine is unlisted. No clue what is being sold but enjoy the statement.

@ Jeff (the other one)
I wasn’t too old when this came out and just thought it was the coolest thing.

For current commercials, I really like the Sandals Beach ones with the music, “Don’t worry – about a thing…….”

I always feel like I have missed out when I see those commercials, since I have never been to these places. My shape now is not designed to be at a beach.

I have a fondness for the Kenner Close and Play Phonograph commercial from the early 1970’s. The guy demonstrating it was Black, and the kids fascinated by it were both Caucasian and Black. At the time I thought nothing of it except it seemed like a cool phonograph.
Now when I remember it from over 50 years ago, there where racially diverse actors appearing on television shows and commercials. Today’s angry activists have no knowledge of anything that happened prior to the internet.

Oh yes, game shows back then and earlier like Concentration had extremely diverse players and I liked that members of the military would wear uniforms and the hosts and celebrity guests would hug or kiss each other. Very different times. Now everything is about victim status and trying to be offended.

I just want to tell you both good luck, we’re all counting on you….

Went to Home Depot in Concord yesterday and I thought I was in Tijuana. The parking lot was overrun with day workers. Since I was in a truck they figured I needed to hire someone and several hassled me for work. They come up and look in back of truck to see if they can see what I’m doing at Home Depot and might be buying and what kind of work I might be doing.
Home Depot in Martinez is not near it’s crowded with the day workers in the parking lot but Concord is ridiculous.
It’s hard to ignore them when they’re at your window while you’re trying to park your truck.

I went to the U-Haul near Costco on Monument to get boxes and the same thing happened with a whole crowd wanting to get hired to help. They were all very nice and all but I don’t want to have to explain what I am doing and why I don’t need them.

@ HAP ~ I didn’t know grade school kids read Claycord.

Budweiser Soldier Tribute Commercial
Post 911 Clydesdale Commercial
Toyota 2018 Big Game Ad One Team Extended Cut

There was a commercial about fiture engineers. A bunch of kids have a remote control and when Dad gets into car, the kids slam the remote into reverse and the Dad goes flying down the road backwards. It was hysterical. Does anyone remember that commercial?

Perfect for use out on the island.

If I tried to use that balloon launcher I’d either wind up with a shoe in the face or maybe just the rubber sling whipping my eye out.

Most places now have an automated checkout device when paying with a credit card and after the bill pops up, then next a tip showing 15% 20% 25%. If I’m picking up something to go, I usually don’t leave a tip unless there are a lot of extra things that go with the meal. Starbucks pay their employees well and with good benefits. No need to tip them for pouring me a cup of coffee.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful moms out there!

Advice if you are going to be outside on a hot day, the night before put 4 bottles of water in the freezer. Before you go outside put a frozen bottle in each back pocket, that contact cooling makes a difference. As they melt you can take sips of cold water.

Do NOT completely fill the bottles going in the freezer and do NOT screw the cap tight. Otherwise, as it freezes, the water will expand and split the bottle. I fill my bottles about 2/3 full and screw the caps just enough to stay on the bottle. I also add a little bit of lemon or lime juice, to improve the flavor.

4 bottles? where do I put the other two?

Well, that didn’t work!
Here’s a tip, if you don’t want your pants full of frozen water bottles to fall down around your ankles, wear some suspenders.

Ice in your front pockets may cause unintended side effects.

Just sayin’

A salute to the Warriors for the four championships, (it’s really five) Lebron cried to the league to overturn one in 2016. The skill and talent by the Warriors was masterful the last decade or so. Unfortunately the NBA has now become a league of head snapping floppers especially the Hollywood acting Lakers which embarrasses and degrades the quality of the game. You might also notice the NBA and their refs also might have an agenda to who they want to win a game or a series on any given night. Cmon, think 27 free throws to 9 in one game. Really? Also Lebron better increase his steroid injections to advance into the playoffs. The NBA has lost its way…

Anyone know of a gardener in the Ayers area? my gardener quit this morning after my last 2 appointments were cancelled due to weather. The back yard is overgrown, but not horrible.

It not easy to find a reliable gardener or handyman anymore. Hopefully someone will know of one for you or where to look for one.

It’s

Was that a homeless encampment at Clayton Rd. and Belair? I drove by yesterday in my truck and it looked like along the back fence it was full of tents. This use to be the Chase Bank property, now it’s just an empty lot filling up with tents.

There was a murder in Concord this afternoon.

I hope Claycord can report some details soon.
