Six Vehicles Destroyed During Fire Caused By Attempted Gasoline Theft

In an apparent gasoline theft gone very wrong, six cars were destroyed in an Antioch BART parking lot Thursday after someone took an electric drill to punch a hole in the first vehicle’s gas tank, a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District spokesman said.

The drill apparently created sparks, which don’t mix well with gasoline. The result was leaking, burning gasoline traveling down the slight slope of the parking lot to catch five other vehicles on fire.

Fire district spokesperson Steve Hill said firefighters were on scene four minutes after calls came in at 2:02 p.m. Thursday.

By then, two cars were engulfed in flames and four more were on their way to being destroyed in the eBART parking lot, adjacent to Slatten Ranch Road.

Investigators found the electric drill at the site. The suspect was gone by then.

“We don’t know that someone wasn’t injured,” Hill said of the suspect, who remains at large.

It took firefighters 15 to 20 minutes to get the situation under control.

“It’s a bit of a mess,” Hill said.

“You’re going to have six commuters who are going to get the surprise of their lives.”

Hill said “surprisingly, the vehicles around the six (destroyed) are fine, and the parking lot is still open.”

Every gene pool has a shallow end.
Somewhere, right now, there is a person really upset to have lost a perfectly good power drill……

Just make you wonder why BART is losing so many riders, new toll gates will cure all these problems. I still believe in the tooth fairy.

I’m sure that’ll buff right out.

What a moron, destroys the property of 6 people probably at work, by what, laying on his belly and drilling a hole? What if the tank was full? Was he going to capture 15-20 gallons of gas. He should be horsewhipped in public.

Can only hope his new nickname is crispy

Finger print the drill if it didn’t burn up. You know the fingerprint is on file. Good thing they have no police in Antioch it would have made work for the DA if they caught the perp.

Wow. Criminals are stupid… drilling a gas tank. Most are made of plastic but electric motors in battery powered drills do spark internally.
.
Ive drilled fuel tanks after removing them from the car and filling it with water for installing a return line for the conversion from a carb to EFI.
.
That would suck to come back to a burned shell of a car.
.
THANKS BART. BUT TRY AGAIN TO MAKE YOUR SYSTEM “SAFE”.
.
In the mean time, NO THANKS!!
