As part of the information-gathering process for its Homeless Strategic Plan, the City of Concord is hosting a community meeting on Thursday, May 25 at 6 p.m. at the Willow Pass Community Center (2748 E. Olivera Rd.).
The goal of this meeting is to share information on Concord’s unsheltered population, and to listen to your concerns, ideas, and feedback regarding the issue of homelessness in Concord.
The input collected from the event will help identify community goals and priorities that will inform the development of an actionable strategic plan to respond to homelessness in Concord.
A virtual community meeting covering the same topics will be held on Wednesday, May 31 at 6 p.m., and there will be other opportunities for the community to provide input.
Recruitment Open
On May 2, the City Council amended the composition of the Homeless Strategic Plan Working Group to include one representative who is from, or who has experience working with, the LGBTQI+ community, and one representative who is an active owner or manager of a business based in Concord, and opened a recruitment for the two positions. Applications for these two positions are due to the City Clerk by Friday, May 26 at 5 p.m.
The Homeless Strategic Plan Working Group acts as an advisory body to Council, staff, and the project consultants, and meets in person once per month, at minimum, for approximately nine to 12 months to hear, discuss, and provide feedback as the strategic plan is shaped. Members are expected to attend all meetings, read all materials, and be prepared to listen and engage on the topics discussed.
The Working Group’s first two meetings occurred on March 22 and April 24, and the next meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 22, at the Concord Senior Center, 2727 Parkside Circle, at 6 p.m. Applicants are encouraged to attend the May 22 meeting.

Agreed! Our sarcasm is showing. Lol! This is all political theater. The meeting and the positions just for show and things will change short term and go right back to the way they were or worse.
Remember when standing too long outside a business (7-11) would get you cited for loitering, or sitting too long on the park bench and not being able to prove you had cash available would get you cited for vagrancy? Remember when you could not drink alchol in public, so the “very rare” drunkard would walk around with his ‘pint’ in a paper bag? Remember when the “parked” for more than 3 days would get your vehicle towed and it would cost your next month’s rent amount to get it out of impound.
Remember when parking for 20 minutes overtime in a 4-hr limit space in the downtown garage would cost you a ‘weeks worth of groceries’ ticket? But there was NOWHERE else to park because the “unhoused” have their camper vans taking up half the garage? Oh wait! They still do ticket the hard working citizens…. Never mind that one😂
Exactly. Police do zero about homeless people committing crimes in public. Police hunt for people they ticket that actually have a job that can pay the tickets. I got harassed by a police officer while I was dropping off packages at the Pleasant Hill post office and I asked him why he doesn’t do anything about the homeless people who hang out there all the time and he said call In and report it. In other words they don’t want to do anything about the homeless.
They have been told NOT TO by the politicians. The police want to round them up and send them along, but they have been forbidden to do anything because of liberal policy makers.
Sounds like they only care about generating revenue.
Run them out of town. Arrest them for vagrancy. Dismantle their filthy, diseased, drug infested camps.
Why have a meeting? Jut run them out. People who refuse to participate in civilization have no right to exist in civilization.

Just be sure to hire some LGBTQ folks who understand all the unhoused, homeless, LGBTQI+ community (I didn’t even know there was one… or are there 3 or 4?).
They should get some good comments at that meeting. Someone should record it.
It’s a lost cause, most of the homeless don’t want help, they don’t want to live by someone else’s rules nor do they wanna be told what to do.
I am wondering why in Danville or Alamo there is no homeless people?

Somehow it seems like concord is attracting homeless. Experience tells me they will get the help they need in jail, examples are, showers, clean place to sleep, food, detox help, metal health services and restrictions on their movement so they will have to avail themselves of these services. I guess if they don’t like that they have the option of moving down the road. I don’t know why anyone would like to see them living in squalor instead of a nice warm jail cell with all the amenities.
Do they make prisoners clean up their own garbage or can they just make an enormous nest of junk like they do in public?
Place your bets, how long before that New Hotel at Clayton Rd & Pine St gets converted to a homeless shelter?

First of all, separate the drug addicts from the unfortunates and veterans down on their luck. If this first step is refused, there will never be a solution. At that point, stealing of government funds is the real cause. Audit Newsom and his minions. Simple and no word salad.
Epiphany! Newsom encouraged homelessness to drive down property values. Easy to scoop up vast stretches of prime city Real Estate.
They shut off the water to farmers down 101 for this very reason. Remember the train they tried to build connecting LA to the Bay Area? Also, the water tunnel to LA from the Sacramento rivers. They would love to steal that too. Bureaucrats and politicians. A profitable combination.
What about Veterans who use drugs? Same question in regards to “the unfortunates”?
San Rafael places their homeless in San Francisco. Can’t we place ours in Antioch? Their trash usually makes it out here anyways.

with the amount of taxes productive members of society pay to the state of California….we should never see a pothole, graffiti, or disgusting no-account homeless derelicts anywhere…its obscene that this has been allowed to get to this level
