No. But every school should have at least one resource officer.

With all the ways to get onto a school yard it just isn’t practical. Unless you want airport lines and taking your shoes off. There are x amount of sick people in the country and all we can do is hope for the best. Make sure offenders are kept locked up. The case at Northgate was not defendable.

Why only high schools? Little kids are carrying guns to school nowadays, too. Didn’t a 6-year-old shoot his teacher 2 or 3 months ago? It should be up to each individual school. If it gives them a sense of security, then go for it, but only if the school uses the funds already allotted to them, and don’t ask for more money. The people of California are already paying through the nose for schools.

Can you imagine the lines waiting to get into school if there were metal detectors? Not good. Keys, phones, etc. would be setting them off every time.

No, they should have police officers.Sometimes a simple deterrent does the job.

No, they should have Mental Detectors.
No more transferring troubled kids from one school to see if they’ll still cause trouble at the next school. There is no reason to treat a new group of children as Guinea Pigs. “Aw shucks, he did it again? What a surprise, who’d a thought.”
Similar to the Newsom/Soros experiment of releasing violent criminals into law abiding neighborhoods hoping they will change through Osmosis. It doesn’t, nor will it work.

Well… if the teachers are unarmed, there aren’t any armed officers on campus, the campus isn’t surrounded by security fencing…maybe some of the kids are just carrying a gun for a chance to fight back.

Airports, court houses and night clubs use them. There are schools that have been using them for years. Metal detectors are a deterrent. They aren’t expensive. By the way, SRO’s only work 4 days week.

Yesterday at John Sweet Elementary a man with a restraining order showed up on campus with a car load of guns. Parents upset with the lax response from the school.

Useless, ineffective and they provide a false sense of security. So, No, they’re a waste of money.
