Brentwood police arrested a man they said modified a flare gun to fire shotgun shells.

During a suspicious vehicle stop, police allegedly found 32-year-old Eric Freitas passed out in a car in the 4000 block of Walnut Boulevard.

Officers found Freitas was on probation in Contra Costa County. During a vehicle search, police found a box of .22-caliber ammunition on the floorboard behind where Freitas was sitting.

A search of a backpack in the backseat turned up a flare gun police said was modified to fire shotgun shells.

Officers also discovered Freitas was a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms.

Freitas was taken to Contra Costa County jail in Martinez.

Eric is in trouble again. Shotgun shell in a pistol. Wonder what the kick was like.

They look like 410’s so probably not terrible. He basically made his own version of the Taurus Judge. I wonder if the barrel is long enough to build an appropriate level of pressure for it to be effective though.

A convict with a gun (and ammunition).

CA’s strict gun laws are working great!

Criminals are not very bright.

Tho’ the flare gun is an interesting…flare.

The DA won’t let him stay in jail very long.

He may be out already.

He probably has a plastic squirt gun stashed somewhere modified to fire the .22 cartridges.
Lucky thing the cops caught him before he tried to use that thing, it might have hurt just enough to make somebody angry enough to kill him.

CA gun laws are so good – see – perps don’t care what laws there are… somebody tell Newsom and Bonta the bad news

Convicted felon. Out in public on the streets and in our community. Why? Becton(and all of you that voted for her) tell us why he shouldn’t be in prison.

Hmm… short-barreled shotguns have been federally restricted under the National Firearms Act since 1934, and their possession has been banned in CA for decades (unless you’re SWAT, military, or [shudder] a motion picture studio!).

I hope the DA doesn’t shy away from pursuing each and every firearms and ammunition-related charge on this guy.

More flare gun violence! This needs to stop! Let’s get some flare gun laws on the books.

No Eric Freitas currently showing in custody in Contra Costa County…….shocking…

Convicted Felon on probation, . . . . . well this is CoCo county where criminals spend little time incarcerated. Likely has few to no job skills to offer an employer.
