Group To Give Presentation In Support Of Keeping The Concord High School Mascot

As we previously reported, Concord High School has been undergoing a review to change their current mascot, which for years has been the “Minutemen.” They want to go with a more “politically correct” name, according to a survey that was emailed to parents and students in 2022.

On Wednesday at 6 p.m., several alumni and community members against the change will be giving a presentation to the Mt. Diablo Unified School District governing board on why the school should keep the mascot.

If the change goes through, the new mascot for Concord High will be either the Bears, Crocodiles, Coyotes, Condors, Cows, Kangaroos, Chargers, Chameleons or Cats.

Opponents of the name change say the move will cost the school thousands, and possibly millions of dollars. They say all logos, stationary, signage, uniforms (sports, band, etc.) will have to be replaced once the school chooses a new mascot.

For those wondering, the definition of Minutemen, according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, is “a member of a group of men pledged to take up arms at a minute’s notice during and immediately before the American Revolution.”

Absolutely ridiculous!!!!!!
I went to CHS and this name change is an utter joke and a disgrace.
Too many offended, woke losers in this state.
How about worrying about the billions of potholes in the streets and the homeless instead of spending millions of dollars to change the mascot of a high school.
Stop being offended!

“How about worrying about the billions of potholes in the streets and the homeless instead of spending millions of dollars to change the mascot of a high school”

That would be the city not the MDUSD Board.

The non profit critical race and queer theory snuck in during Covid ZOOM meetings. Not to many know about the CCEE non profit that has hijacked Mount Diablo Unified School District.
A soft Coup of the educational system.
12 big banks and LLCs AFL/CIO and the Teachers Union are the donators.
Big $machine pushing this crap.

14
2

The CCEE pays cash $$ for Union teachers to attend their agenda classes. The even advertise on embedding teachers in the schools. The psychologist will be trained in the trans of young children. BUT they don’t have a trained psychologist for De-Transition. Just like World Economic Forum teaches.

The Resolution 20/21 first took down the PH Rebels and no one said anything. Than the YV Warriors were next. The Minuteman are still standing. Time to unite. The kids are looking for adults in the room.

They are Marxists. Marxists use deconstruction to tear down that which they wish to replace and control. There is a reason everything traditionally American gets attacked and cancelled. Once they have brought up a generation or two of kids in a system that has erased the founding principles and history and replaced them with CRT, ESG, SEL, and all the other acronyms of neo Marxism, then they will have no cultural resistance left to their will to power. This is why they cheer garbage like the 1619 project. It chisels directly away at the founding story of the country, replacing it with something ugly and evil they can then “fix” with they ideology.

This is a long game, and they are winning.

.
What’s wrong with the current symbolism being ready and willing to defend YOUR country?
.
And political correctness is a form of censorship.

If you have no idea of history, Minutemen takes on a different meaning. I have no dog in the hunt but if they change don’t pick a woke name.

Please join us at tonight’s meeting. We need your support!

There is nothing politically incorrect about Minutemen. Leave it alone. There are more serious problems with our school district and schools then to bother with changing Concords mascot. Seriously!!!

Please join us at tonight’s meeting. We need your support!

More DEM . . . . . woke conditioning
.
You vill comply

Not worth the change and history of school, actually a lot of student body don’t want to change it! Leave it Minutemen!!

46
2

Leave it as Minutemen. We have more important issues then changing a school mascot name. It has been the minutemen for years and it would cost the school so much money to change everything. Money that could be spent on education

35
1

Just leave it as is. There is nothing offensive about the current mascot. People need to get a life. Maybe focus on all the other educational issues at the school and actually teach history .

34
1

Teach history. It would be ironic that changing the name would erase a bit of American revolution history.

16

I thought the district already had money problems . Grow up

34
2

Our mascot will not remain without visible support!! Please, please show your support by attending this week’s meeting!!

Did you know…
1. CHS students were lead to believe changing the mascot is mandatory. It is not.
2. The students were never given an opportunity to keep the Minutemen and possibly update their existing mascot (ie. remove the musket).
3. Unlike Ygnacio Valley HS, there has been no visible group of students on campus pushing for a change. To the contrary, the majority of students are confused as to why a change is necessary.
4. The vote on the mascot selection did not allow for a write in to choose the Minutemen.
5. Only 500 students out of 1180 even participated in voting on a mascot selection. Not even close to a simple majority vote of 601 votes. This shows a severe lack of support for a mascot change.
6. The Bear was picked by only 191 (16%) votes. We are going to pledge about $2 million (YV estimate) on re-branding CHS for such a small group?
7. If the root cause is to make changes to our school to attract greater attendance, wouldn’t those funds be better spent beautifying the school:
• Landscaping
• Snack shack/Restroom facility to accommodate athletic events
• Aesthetic improvements to the school structure itself.

Another manipulated election?

11
3

Very well stated, I totally agree.

Concord Eunuchs wasn’t an option?

15
3

Ridiculous. Think about how much effort and money has been put into changing the mascot to a cow 🐮 or cat 🐱. What other problems could have been solved instead? I’d love to hear from all those who would rather be called a cow rather than a minuteman. Really hope this does not happen. It’s so far out there that it feels like a joke.

20

Won’t the Condors be offended?

5
1

We can probably find someone that is offended by each of the alternative names.

10
1

How are those test scores coming along?

31

What the H*$$ is wrong with minutemen? How is that offensive to anyone? If they were called the infantrymen or soldiers, would that be offensive too? If so, the problem is not in the name. The problem is you and the cancel culture that’s taking over the country. Enough is enough! Stop giving in to this crap!!

27
1

Why do liberals hate their country so much? Paul Revere was a Minuteman, and so were 76 other loyal, and patriotic Americans. The idea that so many brave men and women gave their lives to protect the very freedom that gives these ungrateful, bas#@rds the right to change the name is sickening.

32
3

The Minutemen also included women, African Americans, and so many more. . Sad that our students are taught the proud history of these amazing patriots!

11
1

This is utterly ridiculous….and such a waste of school funds which should be spent on the students education, especially after losing so much these past 2 years during Covid.
Cleaning up the campus would also be money better spent! The campus appearance is a disgrace. Perhaps also teaching the students about the Minutemen and what they represent would be a good history lesson, not try to erase history like so many other things, such as historical statues. I recall that the SF school board were all fired over crap like this!!! MDUSD might want to think twice about going woke!!!

23
1

Amen!

6

What’s wrong with a little change? We have to learn how to embrace change and not always fight against it. Why does it matter if we change the name of a mascot that people find offensive? We should look at it from another persons perspective and see why the change is needed. “Minutemen” can be offensive in a number of ways. First, we’re not all “men” and second it sounds sexual in nature based on songs out there in the musical world. So please, don’t just bash the idea and call it “woke” because it should be looked at after all these years.

4
70

Let’s pretend that this isn’t a terrible idea begat by woke idiots.

It’s still a terrible idea begat by woke idiots, but pretending to be things you aren’t is the hallmark of the woke mob.

22
1

And why should I have to change because someone is unable to see it for what it is, a reflection of history?

If todays songs are the reason you want to change it, you are listening to the wrong music.

15
2

Sorry, we are all men. It’s called a homonym.

6
2

@AMATEUR TEACHER….”Are we not men?….We are DEVO!”

6
2

H.:
““Minutemen” can be offensive in a number of ways. First, we’re not all “men” and second it sounds sexual in nature based on songs out there in the musical world.”
I’m pretty sure we’re not all Bears, Crocodiles, Coyotes, Condors, Cows, Kangaroos, Chargers, Chameleons or Cats, either. And what if there’s someone who is traumatized because they were mauled by a bear, or a crocodile, or a coyote? S**t on by a cow or a condor? Kicked by a kangaroo? Had a charger put where the sun don’t shine? Allergic to chameleons or cats?
Cat Ladies might suit you, though.

2

If I were a male student there I’d be embarrassed by the name “Minutemen” Let them change it to “5 Minutemen” Maybe even “10 Minutemen”…. just kidding kids, but seriously, you’ve got to change that name!
It honors those patriotic men who fought and died in the American Revolutionary War, those brutes! and get rid of those ugly evil muskets too ( we can just pretend they fought and won that war with slap fights and sissy kicks).
My! I’m feeling more woke & stupider already.

15

How about Sixty Minute Man?

1
1

I guess steph currys team will be looking to change its name as well, warriors and minutemen add up to the same thing in my book. That school and probably all others in the district have far more pressing issues.

11

Embarrassing and so unnecessary. I’d rather see the Spirit Poles back!

18

Resolution 20/21 MDUSD signed and approved the conditions that the non profit .org stated. MDUSD has already taken the $$ from the non profit CCEE.
Similar to other non profits in Chicago, Wash DC,Seattle ,…Ect
This heavely financed political machine that make Klaus Shwab proud.
The 5th graders are the target for Agenda 30. Own nothing be happy and eat bugs when they graduate
The agenda slam dunk celebration is taking down the the mascot that protected the constitution.
Laws are being passed to stop this and concerned citizens need to stand up

11
1

Also want to know what is wrong with Minutemen? Part of the story of American independence from England.

17
1

Didn’t the taliban as part of their fanaticism, erase history, destroy established icons and statues ?

15
4

Ridiculous! Let’s sterilize the country of everything patriotic, like they’re trying to sterilize confused kids with “trans” medication and surgeries.

15
3

Yea and the CVCHS “Ugly Eagles” is offensive to all of us pretty people….

So sick of the woke crowd making demands. Is there nothing that DOESN’T offend them? How long are we going to put up with these whining morons? Find an uninhabited island, and start your utopia of woke robots.

12
1

There is nothing controversial about a being CHS, Minutemen. What a waste of time and money. I’ve been to many CHS band reviews and performances. Audiences love and cheer their name and patriotic uniforms. It’s a perfect fit Concord, Massachusetts and Concord, California!

11

Please join us at tonight’s meeting. We need your support!

“Backdoormen” would be acceptable to the woke libs… apologies to JM and the Doors…
https://youtu.be/E9n3v4Wr-JI

They should change the name to Brandon. Then at all school events everyone can yell “Lets go Brandon.” It’s a very popular and all inclusive chant!

15
3

Just put a dress on the logo and everything is solved. The school gets to keep “Minutemen” and the wokesters get a trans symbol. Better yet, keep the musket and tri-corner hat and replace the man with Sam Britton.

8
2

How stupid – why not use the time, energy, and resources doing something actually useful? like educating… let’s do a real poll of Concord residents.. oh wait – they know what the answer will be .. just like renamng Kirker Pass … ridiculous

3

How about we focus on important things like the actual education & curriculum not the school’s name…STUPID

I graduated there fifty three years ago.Spent all my high school years at Concord High and am totally against changing the name of the mascot. When are you people going to stop this nonsense and stop dictating to us what you are going to do.Butt out and leave it alone you morons.

10

Please join us at tonight’s meeting. We need your support!

Eventually the woke crowd will be protesting flying our nations flag claiming it’s to divisive or political..it’s coming….

Can the general public attend this meeting? Or has the public input phase already concluded? I’d love to hear the arguments for changing the mascot, the people’s relationship to the school, how long they have resided in this city and how long they plan to live in this city.

I went to Concord High over 20 years ago and played women’s basketball. I don’t know of anyone on the team that took offense to the mascot. What was humiliating was the year there wasn’t enough money in the budget for uniforms for the women’s team. We wore what looked like men’s uniforms from the Larry Bird era of basketball. However, the men’s team had new modern uniforms.

I’m not sure where the logo on the marquee came from but the sweatshirt I have from high school is just a grinning guy’s face…no gun. So use that one and save money on paying someone to design a new logo. Get over the gender inclusive argument and take a look into what is a minuteman. Did these people feel left out when they were Toros (male bull) at El Dorado? If you don’t feel included then you need to build a better sense of community. Especially if it revolves around a drawing of a character. My property taxes shouldn’t have to increase because someone doesn’t like the mascot of a school. Plus it seems like the kids really don’t care to change it if half of the school voted.

Calling all Patriots! Please, please come to the school board meeting tonight and support us as we try to save our Minutemen! Without visual support we may lose this battle!

I am a 1976 graduate and I do not believe that the Minuteman mascot should be changed. It has been the mascot since the school opened. It is our history and legacy. I live in Burlingame so hard for me to make the meeting but I am sending my support to everyone that is in favor of keeping the mascot. So tired of people trying to change and rewrite history. There is nothing wrong with our mascot. Too many people trying to erase the past. Unnecessary and ridiculous. Spend the money on more important and pressing issues!!

Please join us at tonight’s meeting. We need your support!

If it wasn’t for the Minute men we would be British. Grow up and spend time and energy on things that matter. Here is an idea. how about working on the quality of education? just saying.

I was a minuteman in marching band in 1970/74 let’s quit trying to change history but learn from it. I can’t be there tonight

Sone have lost their minds and cant allow this wokeness to take over ever aspect of our lives. When does it end?. They tried to change school names in SF as well (Lincoln, Jefferson, etc).

And the funny thing is most people aren’t offended by mascots. The silent majority needs to get up stand up. We’re being pushed around by woke
ideologues and my hunch is these folks never played sports, so don’t get it. As a coach, the term Warrior is a term of endearment not offensive.

Our focus nowadays….

We are allowing bio men to swim vs women, shower w women, use women restroom, can’t say sad/mom, use terms like birthing parent, siblings …..I can go on and on. Although the gender issue isn’t a mascot issue….it’s the same type of molding they want. Control how we talk and think. Remember to these folks it’s completely ok to have drag queen book reading for kids. Guarantee all of these are the same people.

Next up, “ugly” people will revolt vs. Clayton Valley Ugly Eagles. Good luck as Ugly will unite.

Out.

I graduated from Concord High School on June 7, 1969 with great pride in the school, and deep respect for the teachers and counselors. When I attended, Concord High was BRAND NEW. In fact my freshman year of school I had to attend Mt. Diablo High. (Note the Spanish word for Devil is the name of the mascot, should be go back and erase that one too, even though that school is now closed. My folks moved just across the line into Clayton Valley High territory where I attended my Sophomore year. And then we bought a home back in Concord High territory.

As I look at the maneuverings to change the Mascot at Concord High, I am just floored. What disrespect is being shelled out to all of the graduates from 1968 onward who attended, participated in athletics, drama production, yearbook staff, band, glee club/choir, etc, etc. If you are going to change from the Minute Men to something else that does not offend, please know that you are deeply offending me. If we cancel the Minutemen, then I think we need to change/cancel the term FreshMAN.

Perhaps Cancel Culture folks, including this Principal, needs to be allowed to move to a culture and environment where these sorts of things are not present … oh wait, there is always something all around the world that offends someone.

@ Julie. How’d meeting go?

It went really well. All presenters brought a different perspectives in support of the Minuteman. It’s clear the numbers in favor of change are not what has been suggested. It’s dwindling as the truth comes out.

Well that didn’t take long, Concord high mascot issue has gone international.

1st Minutemen, what’s next the red devils or the Warriors or the Screaming Eagles. I’m not offended, I attended CHS and proud to be a woman that’s a Minutemen.
