San Francisco Zoo officials celebrated the arrival of nine black-tailed prairie dog pups on Friday.
This week, nine pups popped out from their underground homes at the prairie dog habitat in San Francisco Zoo & Garden’s Exploration Zone.
Zoo experts estimate that these pups are about five weeks old, since prairie pups typically emerge from their burrows between four to six weeks.
Residents are invited to stop by the zoo to take a look at the pups themselves.
Prairie dogs! Yes, one of my favorites of Nature’s wild wonders.
I remember in my last office we had a video we’d run all day on Wednesdays (when we scheduled the constipated cases) Prairie Dogs popping up & down in & out of their burrows.
Very therapeutic!
I recall working with a truck driver on a construction site looking for the nearest port-a-potty. He said he was “Prairie Dogging.” That was good for a laugh. They are cute little critters, though.
These babies along with all of the other “Zoo Babies” are adorable! I love watching all of the “zoo” shows on TV; you can see on there all kinds of babies being born in the zoos. One of my favorites to see was a newborn camel, it was so cute and tiny.
Congratulations to ALL of the zoos across the globe for their contribution in the species breeding programs that are helping to release some of the endangered animals back into nature for their survival.
