Here’s a “then & now” shot of Ygnacio Valley Rd. (back then some called it Ygnacio Valley Freeway) in Concord, near Ayers. This is eastbound Ygnacio, going towards Clayton Rd.
The first one is from the 1950s, and the second one is how it looks today, in 2022.
Anyone out there remember when Ygnacio was a 2 lane road?

… have one of the intersection of YVR & Oak Grove?
We’ve lived in Clayton for over 45 years and I’ve commuted on either Hwy 24 or 680 the whole time. Even though I’m semi-retired now, I still commute on 680 to my approximately half-time job. I figure I’ve driven something like 160,000 – 200,000 miles on YVR (of the approximately 1 million miles I’ve driven). YVR is the price we pay for living in Clayton and it’s worth it IMHO.
This is a good one. I like that you can see the cut in the rock on the left hand side of the road. It is still a geological spectacle to drive through, though few appreciate it.
Notice the road condition in the 1950s was far better than today. Where are all the tax funds going? Not into road maintenance!!!
The road was newly constructed.
