The following is from the Concord Police Department:

ORGANIZED RETAIL THIEVES ARRESTED

Yesterday, a newly installed Flock camera alerted a CPD Investigator to a felony vehicle in the City of Concord.

The vehicle was linked to a CPD investigation for organized retail theft of thousands of dollars in merchandise from local stores.

CPD Officers were able to locate and arrest both of the suspects responsible for a multitude of crimes committed all over the Bay Area.

Organized retail theft is a problem which results in the loss of hundreds of thousands of dollars each year from our local businesses and this case is just one example of technology assisting us in the apprehension of criminals.

Claycord note: The location of the arrests and the suspect names were not released by police.

Good job LE! … now Becton, lock the revolving door and set bail at something more than pocket change!

Curious where everyone gets their data. I’ve been accused several times over the years on this site for including personal stories in my responses (even when the stories are supporting factual data) and yet people are constantly using anecdotal evidence to support claims that certain politically leaning politicians and officials are the reason for “skyrocketing” crime. According to all available data (which includes 2020) the overall crime rate in Contra Costa has decreased under Becton and is possibly the lowest it’s been since the mid 2000s. But we really don’t care about that because it doesn’t fit the narrative we want, right?

It may look like crime is down but because of the higher dollar limits required for prosecution much more theft goes unreported. Ask any retailer what their shrink numbers are and you’ll find the truth.

Please cite the source of “all available data (which includes 2020)”. The data from the FBI only covers 2019.
See here:
https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s
But, after all, what do they know about crime statistics?

Anything under 950. is not reported as a crime. Most crimes are no longer prosecuted, so if you feel like we are safer as an individual, a family or a business owner now than 20 yrs ago, we aren’t.

“California’s violent crime rate increased in 2021.

California’s violent crime rate increased by 6.0%, from 440 per 100,000 residents in 2020 to 466 in 2021.
While robberies fell somewhat (by 1.9%), aggravated assaults jumped by 8.9%, and homicides and rape increased by 7.7% and 7.9%, respectively.
In 2021, aggravated assaults were 67% of reported violent crimes; 24% were robberies, 8% were rape, and 1% were homicides.
California’s violent crime rate in 2020 (the latest nationwide statistics available) was higher than the national rate of 387 per 100,000 residents and ranked 16th nationwide.”

However… if we can believe the FBI, crime rates are down in Contra Costa.

Dr. j, that FRED data is suspect. A total of 1,400 crimes in all of contra costa county for an entire year? I bet we have more than that just in Concord.

Question, if you don’t arrest someone for a crime they committed, did they commit a crime? That’s how it works these days, don’t arrest, don’t charge, therefore crime is down.

It’s the same way Obama reduced unemployment. He just had to say those jobs no longer exist and waamoo, unemployment goes down. Liberals, gotta love they way they get things done. Nothing changes, but they claim it did.

…and if they need more votes – open the porous southern border even more.. you know they vote for whoever let them in .. saw it with automatic voter registration giving the “undocumented” official Calif ID cards – true story

Hey Jess: That’s because cops hardly ever arrest anyone anymore; since they know that the A-holes will not be held in jail. The scumbags are out and back on the streets in hours even if they are initially jailed. What a bunch of BS. Open your eyes and see what’s really going on. You are living in La-La land.

Yeah well our store in Concord has been broken into and or robbed during the day probably over 20 times since 2020.

In the twenty years before that, maybe once every 18 months.

Also note that they only count in the stats over 1000. Under 1000 they wont come out for report you have to complete on-line.

Did it first couple of times and have not since.

BTW there was an article in LA Times about the 2022 numbers being HUGE.

For example 152,000 converters stolen in e tire US in 2022. CA was 51,000 of them!

Those were released last week!

Sure, because crimes are not prosecuted so, on paper, sure crime rates appear to be “down.”

People don’t like statistics or facts that don’t align with their views

hmmmm., Flock camera… ACLU will be on this one.

What the eff is a “flock” camera????

New game spot a FLOCK

flock is brand for what we most know as lic plate cameras and such…

What happens next, back on our streets in short order, charges reduced, plea bargain , to save cost of a trial. Why not send a clear and concise message to citizens of CoCo county, rip out front Jail doors and replace with revolving doors.
.
If there is no threat of incarceration,
there is no deterrence to criminal behavior

What the flock ?

Newsom started using the term “Organized retail theft” as a way of making sure he doesn’t alienate his base. Right around the time of the Oregon riots it became politically advantageous to pontificate that stealing is perfectly legitimate if the thief claims to need the items.
So Newsom blew a bunch of smoke “By gosh we’ll hold these organized retail thieves to account”, which he obviously had no intention of doing.
So whenever you hear the term “Organized Retail Theft”, what they really mean is: “We don’t want to arrest any thieves, but since we are becoming known as the political party of escalating crime, we’ll attempt to appease citizens by arresting a few”.
Disingenuous at best.

Show their faces… let us see the sh$theads so they can be publicly known. Walk of shame.
