Traffic Alert: Major rollover traffic collision at Ygnacio Valley Rd. and Oakland Blvd., in Walnut Creek.
One of the vehicles involved is a bus. This is right near the WC BART entrance.
5 ambulances have been dispatched, so far.
The off ramp from northbound I680 to Ygnacio Valley Rd is closed. They have called for 4 tow trucks.
UPDATE: A total of 5 patients were transported via ambulance to area hospitals. 1 Critical, 1 Serious and 3 Minor. The incident commander also indicated that there were a “number of AMAs” meaning possibly injured individuals who left the scene, “Against Medical Advice”.
It looks like a bad one. Not surprising…people drive crazy on that exit.
It’s raining, and the roads are nice and slick. Pay attention, slow down, and turn your lights on, so people can see you.
I went to Trader Joe’s on Concord Ave this afternoon. Driving on Contra Costa Blvd l notice a few cars without lights both on my way there and my way home
I got home a little before 6 pm, so when driving back it certainly was getting dark, and with the rain even less visibility.
Holy Toledo !
.
Looks like the black car came in hot off of I-680, slid, clipped the back of the bus (based on the impact high up the passenger side belt line), and then crashed into the other vehicles.
.
SLOW. THE. HELL. DOWN
.
… AND DONT TAILGATE!!!!
.
I juat saw some more coverage. There was a smashed Jeep TJ in the intersection but it still looks like drivers exiting I-680 didn’t stop in time and piled up while attempting to brake.
.
Wow, exit 12A you seem to know a lot about how this accident happened. How do you think the front end of what looks like to be a red jeep ended up embedded in right panel of the black car?
Do you know for sure the driver of the black car was the catalyst for this accident?
Evidence tow was called. Likely a fatality and/or DUI.
.
What is “Evidence tow”?
.
They call an evidence tow to take the vehicle to the yard to be examined in the case of (usually) a fatality.
A car being towed for evidence by CHP
Haha I knew “tow guy” would come through
For God’s sake, whatever you do…. DON’T USE YOUR TURN SIGNALS!
ALA’s against lawyers advice
Oh, this looks terrible. I usually turn left there by the underpass to get to my gym, so was able to take a detour. A few hours later, I was diverted to take 680 to Treat and I saw the Ygnacio Valley exit was backed up, so there is still a lot of activity. Be careful out there!
DWS. (Driving While Stupid).
Pretty nasty wreck for a city street!
Wonder is it 35 mph there?
I just recognized what that reddish piece is on the upperback of the black sedan : it’s the front grill and headlights surrounds of a Jeep!
I guess I’m a little bit naive. How do people get going that fast in that area to accomplish that kind of carnage. It’s seems you would have to make a concerted effort.
.
Well, current modern vehicles are designed to drive comfortably – disconnected (numb) from the road. Plus “safety” features like anti-lock brakes, lane assist, and traction control allows drivers to “overdrive” their vehicles given their skill and the road conditions.
.
Compare today with that of a 60s or 70s vehicle and it’s a HUGE difference.
.
.. and NEVER underestimate humans’ idiocy. That’s why there are Darwin awards.
.
@EXIT 12A….I’ve had a “new to me” pickup a year now and it has throttle by wire. It’s really a strange feeling. Took the old Mopar out a couple of weeks ago for a good thrashing on the back roads just to remind me of how real cars used to feel….and to scare myself a bit.
.
@nytemuvr
.
Those throttle by wire systems are programmed with a bit of lag. If you want throttle responsiveness, there are several plug-in tuners (thru the OBDII port) that will allow you to reprogram the feel.
.
Like you, I’ve got a ’70 F-100 (among other toys) to remind me of the good ol’ days.
.
This is the freeway off ramp from 680/24 to ygnacio, coming downhill from overpass, easy to be going 50 mph if you’re not paying attention, and in the rain adds to the disaster. I drove by this scene, the picture doesn’t show the real carnage….. there is a red jeep in the middle of the intersection that is really destroyed, notice the debris in the roadway, he hit the black car and rolled over and ended up in front of the bus.
Cars too fast can the off ramps and that’s a downhill section off road.
Texting and driving. Driving too fast in conditions. The entitlement of drivers in fancy cars is also possible. Actions have consequences. The lawyers are the winners here.
It’s amazing to me the comments people leave about possible scenarios on these things…. its different when you know someone involved I guess….
