As California braces for another round of atmospheric rivers and storms, Governor Gavin Newsom on Wednesday declared a state of emergency to support storm response and relief efforts in 21 counties, including five in the greater Bay Area.

Storms are forecast to pummel the state through mid-March, and many areas are already grappling with flooding, power outages and damage from recent record rainfall and snow storms.

The emergency proclamation issued Wednesday to provide disaster response and relief includes San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and Monterey counties.

Last week, a state of emergency was issued for 13 counties statewide that included Sonoma County, and the governor activated the California Guard and State Operations Center.

Bay Area communities are preparing for high winds and possible flooding as an atmospheric river approaches the region with heavy rains on Thursday and Friday.

A flood watch is in effect for the region from Thursday afternoon through Sunday morning, and a wind advisory is in effect for the entire Bay Area and Central Coast Thursday afternoon through Friday afternoon.

Lingering rain will continue into the weekend with yet another atmospheric river expected next week, according to the National Weather Service.

“The state is working around the clock with local partners to deploy life-saving equipment and first responders to communities across California,” Newsom said.

“With more dangerous storms on the horizon, we’ll continue to mobilize every available resource to protect Californians.”

I think Newsom should have declared a state of emergency the day he was elected.

I guess the drought is over but haven’t heard one government official say so yet.Its hard for them to admit they really don’t know crap. They said it would take years to get out of it.Get a new job.

This morning the U.S. Drought Monitor determined more of California is officially out of an ongoing drought. They posted maps of the various regions throughout the state. Significant parts of Southern California are still considered to be either abnormally dry or in a moderate drought.

.
CA isn’t resilient at all. Is a State of Emergency really necessary? Arent most people able to take care of themselves and/or prepare for these conditions?
.
These types of storms happen all the time in the midwest, east, and south.
.
Heaven forbid a REAL disaster happens because CA government and the typical urban/suburban dwellers are pathetic snowflakes!

These things happen all the time here too! Gavin is just looking for another way to take over or look good. People need to take care of themselves. But, to be fair, other states flip out when they get tornados or hurricanes, and then we ALL have to pay for THEIR poor planning and stupidity to live/build there. I made sure I was not in a flood zone AND that my house sloped down around it when I bought it. It is just common sense.

I’m beginning to think that is the plot of The Nanny state to get people so scared and also so helpless and victimized that they will turn to the government for everything. People are getting so helpless they can’t do a thing for themselves . We will wait for instructions on when to put our coat on, or when to take it off. When to turn our heater on or weren’t to turn on the AC. Pitiful!
I don’t think this country could have ever been founded with the softies we have now, and I even worry that if we can even defend ourselves anymore or would just roll over and cry.

Hello? What rock have you been under ?
This has been going on for years.
City’s , Counties , States and Feds have been playing the nanny state for years trying to dumb everyone down and try to make people reliant.

Exit 12’s comment about when a real disaster strikes will ring true and the support will be nowhere to be found for 2 weeks or more.

So what edicts from on high will Newscum dictate under the guise of this state of emergency? He dictated so many unrelated to Covid during his Covid state of emergency …

On a different note, I am going to look up how many days California has not been in some state of emergency or another during Newscum’s reign of terror started. And then follow that up with how many edicts he passed during those times that did not legislative oversite.
