The 15-year-old suspect in a fatal stabbing last week in a Santa Rosa high school is facing two felony counts, prosecutors with the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office said Monday.
The freshman boy allegedly stabbed 16-year-old Jayden Jess Pienta last Wednesday in an art classroom at Montgomery High School. Pienta died later at a hospital.
Events unfolded at about 11 a.m. Wednesday when Pienta and another 16-year-old junior entered the art class that they were not attending, and an argument ensued. Then a fight broke out. The freshman allegedly brandished a knife and stabbed both.
The charges against the freshman include voluntary manslaughter and bringing a knife onto school grounds, prosecutors said. He is being held at juvenile hall.
His next court date is Friday to hear arguments about his detention at juvenile hall.
He is not being charged as an adult following the passage of Senate Bill 1391, which precludes juveniles from being charged as adults for any offense.
The second victim in the stabbing recovered from his wounds. The freshman suspect in the stabbing will not face a jury in juvenile court.
Sounds a little like self defense, but who knows.
Metal Detectors in our schools need to be mandatory. I guess our state does not find our schools as important enough as our court houses.
Santa Rosa is in the news a lot lately. According to a map of the places in the US where the cartels have an operation Santa Rosa (along with San Jose) has a cartel in place. Used to be such a peaceful town.
