Unable to view video, but I’m sure it’s very upbeat about all of the new programs being implemented to solve the homeless problem and the increases in crime. The only problem is that Concord has a weak chief and a woke city council, nothing will change. Oh, who’s driving the mayor to meetings with her DUI and alcohol issues?
Firestone 11R
Yes, Jeff. Because we should have politicians and representatives that convey negativity and feed into people’s fears instead of presenting information in neutral or positive ways. That’s a great idea.
What does “woke” actually mean in this context? I only see it used as an adjective to convey dislike for politicians and other public officials (especially police brass, prosecutors and judges) who demand that LEOs heed the constitution, demand investigative rigor and insist that criminal charges conform to colorable evidence.
Better up your game and play it by society’s rules, deputy Firestone. Coercion, bullying and abuse of authority went out of style years ago.
Jessica,
Adults want and can handle the truth regarding what’s really going on.
Those that need coddling are basically children.
Woke is pretending that social justice isn’t the antithesis of true justice. Woke is using your own racism, classism, and petty jealousy as an excuse to impose your will on others. Woke is pretending to be something you’re not and demanding that everyone else indulge your delusions. Woke is child abuse cloaked in a fake enlightenment. Woke is demanding tolerance for your own opinions while denying tolerance for any other opinions. And the Woke mob is insufferable.
Jeff,
.
Unless something has changed in the past few months, Mayor Laura Hoffmeister continues to travel to and from Concord City Council meetings herself.
JESSICA,

Presentations being made by elected and/or appointed individuals shouldn’t be altered by presenting them in a negative, neutral, or positive manner, they should simply be complete, honest, and factual, the chips should fall where they may and the public should determine if the presentation or presentations are negative, neutral, or positive.
LAMORINDA LARRY,

Do you really not understand the definition of “woke”?
.
“Jeff” posted that Concord has “a woke city council.” An example of this took place last month when Concord City Councilwoman Carlyn Obringer praised Concord city staff when they took it upon themselves to put a “land acknowledgement” in a staff report and she then asked if the Concord City Council could have a “land acknowledgement” at the beginning of every meeting “to acknowledge the rightful owners of the land.”
.
Another example would have been when the East Bay Reginal Park District chose to name the new regional park in Concord the “Thurgood Marshall Regional Park – Home of the Port Chicago 50” instead of “Concord Hills Regional Park.” Lies, misrepresentations, and convoluted interpretations of the fact’s were used to justify the naming of this park for “woke” political reasons.
Neither example has anything to do with law enforcement or crime, and neither addresses deputy Firestone describing the CPD Chief as “woke.”
Firstly, there’s no credible dispute that Native American tribes lived here long before European immigrants arrived, and I don’t follow how acknowledging that uncontroversial fact is a lie, misrepresentation or convoluted interpretation of anything. (Though the characterization of such tribes’ living descendants as the “rightful owners” is certainly inconsistent with contemporary law.)
Secondly, is not unusual to name parks after significant historical figures, and Justice Marshall certainly fits the bill. He was an iconoclastic jurists, who perhaps most notably authored the 1954 Brown v Board SCOTUS opinion which ended school segregation. I doubt anyone reading this thread takes umbrage with desegregation. Many parks are also named in honor of soldiers who placed themselves in peril for their comrades’ benefit, such as the Port Chicago 50. Indeed, the subsequent disaster which incinerated hundreds of sailors vindicated the basis for their protest.
So the two examples offered do nothing to define “woke” in the context of law enforcement and crime. Both also bear out my point that the word has devolved into little more than a vague insult to deride political officials or policy they don’t like.
LAMORINDA LARRY,
.
Do you make things up much?
.
You’re wrong!!! The poster named “Jeff” whom you refer to as “Deputy Firestone” never said the Concord Police Chief is “woke” but said he’s “weak” and said the Concord City Council is “woke.”
.
You’re wrong again!!! I know good and well that my American Indian ancestors arrived in North America before my European ancestors did. I never said that Indians being in North America before Europeans was based on “lies, misrepresentations, and convoluted interpretations of the facts!” Those are just more of your lies!
.
I know good and well why things are named after historical figures. The Eas Bay Regional Park in Concord was named “Thurgood Marshall Regional Park – Home of the Port Chicago 50” because of the BLM protests and supporters of the name attempted to the together Seal Beach, the Port Chicago Naval Magazine explosion, Thurgood Marshall representing sailors at Mare Island (where most, if not all, were previously stationed at Port Chicago Naval Magazine), and the Concord Naval Weapons Station, even though the the land that makes up the park was never part of the Port Chicago Naval Magazine. You don’t even have the facts correct, the 50 Port Chicago sailors that were charged with mutiny happened at Mare Island after the Port Chicago explosion, not at Port Chicago before the explosion as you have claimed. We were told lies, misrepresentations, and convoluted interpretations of the facts when attempts were made to tie these locations, people, and events together.
.
I gave you two examples of “woke,” or “being aware of social injustice” and attempts that were made by individuals to recognize that “injustice” but that doesn’t make it a “vague insult” as you claim when others disagree with that actual or perceived injustice.
Knight – Fair enough re Deputy Firestone deriding CPD’s chief as “weak” chief vs. concord’s city counsel as “woke.” Mea culpa.
I maintain that neither of you examples do much to define “woke.” Your response does appear to define “woke,” however, as “being aware of social injustice.” Assuming that is indeed the definition intended in Deputy Firestone’s post, what does such awareness injustice preclude crime reduction or more effective policing on Concord.
Criminal behavior is perhaps the most acute form of social injustice in most of our day-to-day lives. The purpose of out law enforcement and judicial systems is quite literally to administer justice under color of law into rectify injustice. In this light, how is a city council’s awareness of social injustice antagonistic to crime reduction or law enforcement policies?
LAMORINDA LARRY,
.
You’ve made it clear that you don’t want to have a conversation here, you repeatedly make false statements about what other Claycord posters have posted, you’ve repeatedly made false statements about historical facts, you’re unwilling to consider anyone else’s view other than your own because you always have to be right, and more often than not you make toxic posts, either for attention or because that’s just who you are..
Old west justice. I am sick of the woke, liberal politicians and public safety leaders. Bring back Judge Roy Bean, Dirty Harry and zero tolerance for all crime.
@American Citizen – Could you please define “woke” and explain why you don’t like it?
Where is vehicle break-ins?
We have an excellent Chief of Police in Concord. I have spoken to Chief Bustillos and he told me he is taking serious crimes that our DA will not prosecute aggressively to the feds, and getting good results. At this meeting he mentioned an example: the recent conviction of the drug dealer responsible for the death of a Concord High student.
That conviction was weak dude will be free in the future and probably sell drugs again. What would make a difference is give him the death sentence with one one year to appeal and then execute him after that year. We don’t need people that him on this earth. If I was her father I would wait until he was free and take him out to sleep with the fishes. F that pos they gave him a slap on the wrist. He took that little girls life!!!!!
He isn’t that excellent. He is still allowing his command staff bully subordinates. Time to put a choke chain on Nakayama, Chief!
Meetings are what people do when they are not working.
