The following update is from Mount Diablo State Park:

The snow is beautiful, but unfortunately, today is not your typical snow day for the kids.

Staff is hard at work, but there is no update yet on when the paved roads will open.

The Mitchell Canyon and Macedo Ranch entrances are open for hikers, but from those spots it is probably at least a 4 to 6 mile roundtrip hike with significant elevation gain to get up to where there is snow.

You would need to be prepared for muddy trails, and places with trail damage from this and previous storms.

It is very cold and has been raining at the lower elevations so the right gear to stay warm and dry is very important for anyone who chooses to venture out.

Are you new? It’s been snowing nearly every year on Mt Diablo for the past seven centuries

In other words don’t forget your rubbers. Rain is wet and snow is cold.

That’s what she said.

Hiked up to Deer Flat today, took about 3 hrs to get up there. Snow and mud all the way up. Didnt make it to the summit as snow was too hard to walk through at that elevation. Very nice views!!!

Give a guy a badge and a keychain and he will lock a gate to feel powerful. Maybe take some of their budget they spend on guys who stand around all the time and use it on a machine that would clear the road like an attachment to a truck or a street sweeper just common sense we go through this every five years or so
