Contra Costa Health continues to look into the Nov. 24-25 release of spent catalyst by the Martinez Refining Company, and they’re now saying it’s possible the spent catalyst made its way into soil and was absorbed by plants.
Lab results from the spent catalyst samples showed elevated levels of metals including aluminum, barium, chromium, nickel, vanadium and zinc.
If you live in the area of the Martinez Refining Company, Contra Costa Health recommends not eating foods that were grown from plants in your yard.
They say if you’re worried about your soil, you should “try growing plants in planters with new soil.”
What about chicken eggs? Do we have to worry about them?
That’s it? No offer to provide uncontaminated soil to those who grow veggies?
Never mind how many of them had to breathe that crap! Or how it’s affected property values… Would you buy contaminated property?
Not even a “sorry about that”?
If I was a Martinez resident I’d sue…. BIGTIME!
Want action ? ?
Lets invite Trump out for a visit.
You’re looking Trump for increased regulation of businesses?
You could invite Mayor Pete, however there are thousands of similar contaminations each year so why should he bother.
To be fair they did offer Martinez residents a free car wash 😉
and then…. it rained.
No worries, folks. I’m sure no contaminants traveled on the 925-winds… blew off the trees and rooftops…whirled up and down, around and around, got kicked up or carried about on cars and freeway traveling tires. Surely none sank into far-off …. ground… water… wells… rivers … bay. None made it onto your shoes, carpets. Don’t worry. They kept the wind-blown heavy metals in Martinez.
And this isn’t the first time it’s happened!
That type of thing has been happening at that refinery for decades and decades and decades. They do whatever they want, and answer to no one. Meanwhile, the BAAMD continues to pretend like they are doing their job, while in reality they are just another inept and corrupt California government agency.
Bay Area Air Quality Management District 🔝
Well, so long as we didn’t have fires in our fireplace when the families gathered for their first Thanksgiving together in a couple years… As long as we did “our” part to keep the air clean that particular day.
So maybe Metallica will want to buy my toxic tomatoes
I guess it wasn’t a spare the air day when that happened.
