The man who died after he hit a firetruck while driving on I-680 near Treat Blvd. in Walnut Creek over the weekend has been identified by the Contra Costa County Coroner as 31-year-old Pittsburg resident Genesis Mendoza-Martinez.
Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Truck 1 was blocking lanes of northbound I-680 just south of the Treat Blvd. offramp from a previous crash when it was struck by Mendoza-Martinez, the district reported.
Mendoza-Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the fire district, and a passenger was extricated and transported to the hospital. Four firefighters were also transported for evaluation.
The crash is currently under investigation.

Ugh. Decapitation is horrible way to leave this world.

Where did you read that. I don’t see it mentioned on Claycord. Certainly a possibility. Just curious

I have an inside source.

He was my neighbor’s nephew.
A really good guy who worked hard.
Loved to go dancing in the City.
Sad this happened.
@Roz, Thanks for putting it human face on this. I received several thumbs down in earlier comments, just because I said it was sad someone died, even if it was his own fault. Hopefully they will find out the cause and others can learn from it, especially if it had to do with the design of the Tesla.
We are still left with how did he not see the flashing red lights. Or was it something else?

Good chance he had the Tessie on auto pilot and wasn’t paying attention. If he was paying attention he would have not only seen the lights but the truck as well.
