Cowellian’s First
Y’all have a great weekend!

Pick One:
.
A) Glazed Carrots
B) Pickled Beets
C) Yuck

Glazed carrots, definitely. The best carrots I ever had were at the Hotel Mac, in Point Richmond, many years ago.

haven’t thought of that place in years; surprisingly never been.
looks like they didn’t survive the covid shutdown…
I remember late 70’s or so, the talk was it was controlled by dirty money. I seem to remember the city stopped using it for events. kinda gave the rumor validity.
.
but them again rumors are rumors…

I would have to say the carrots. I love beets, tremendously, however, the resultant stream tends to freak me out.

Both.

Both, my dad grew beets, and my mother would pickle them. They are a stable of Danish smorgasboard and dinner. An open faced sandwish with liver pate, on rye bread, always has dill pickles or pickled beets on top. For dinner they served with meat especially pork, that is served with potatos, brown gravy

B. I love beets. Pickled, beet salad, beets on a stick…

B. Beets. Carrots are for color, vitamin A and garnish. My mother made pickled beets and they were a good additional to dinner.

“B”

Have a good Holiday Weekend Claycordian

Went to the mall to pick up a gift order at Rocky Mountain Chocolates. The place sure has changed. Miss the movie theater and the ice arena. Dating myself? 😉

First of all, big “yes” to pickled beets. Carrots are like raisins: never ever should have been allowed to exist.
My main question to all of you is….why the hell am I registering my car when a huge percentage of drivers don’t bother to, based on what I see, on cars, every day? Do cops even pull cars over based on expired registration? I know I’m turning into a bitter old man, but this one really bugs me.
If I don’t register my car and don’t pay the fees, and don’t plan to ever sell my car, why bother??

I started to notice this more during the pandemic. Were people not registering because they weren’t going as many places, was I more observant because I had more free time or was this always the case. Regardless, it bothers me too. Maybe they are being pulled over if a cop notices. Do they get a fix-it ticket or a fine?

…nope – our “progressive” politicos have decided to let registration violators let it slip by LE unfortunately… think of the millions of $$ they are letting go and potential traffic stops that would get perps where they belong… but noooooooo they want more votes

I’ll volunteer to put a ticket on cars with an expired registration. One warning and after 30 days, you get a ticket and NO excuses allowed.

Any bets that the Seeno bunch is involved with new buildings scheduled or currently being built downtown?

I saw one of those listicles, and thought it would be fun to see what others here thought:

It was for the most over rated Led Zeppelin songs, and I did not agree with any they selected. But, thought I would toss that here, and ask to explain why you think that …

Mine, to start, would be Dancing Days. I think the wailing of Plant is annoying, and the rhythm of the song just bores me.

While Dancing Days is no picnic, the whole “In through the out door” thing was where they really jumped the shark. No wonder Bonzo was drinking so heavily.

@Jeff (The Other One)
I wouldn’t mind participating in this, but the only Zeppelin songs I know are from IV and while some are better than others, I don’t believe any of the songs on that album are over-rated. 🙂

Medicine has sure changed. You book an upcoming zoom call with your physician:

1- They send you an email with forms where you have to duplicate everything that is already in your medical chart.
2- The Physician’s assistant calls you 30 minutes before the appointment to re-verify everything you just submitted which is already in your medical chart.
3- The Physician calls, “So, what are we seeing you for today?.” (Thought to self: Didn’t you read my friggin’ chart?) You repeat everything you imputed into the email forms and discussed with the Physician’s assistant. The Physician writes a prescription for a drug not covered by your insurance: $300 for a thirty day supply which will likely make you so sick you have to discontinue use after three days….
4- As soon as you hang up the Physician Zoom call, you receive an email asking you to take their survey.
Yep, medicine has sure changed.

… and it doesn’t matter what you say in the survey they do what they want anyway… gives them license to say they asked for feedback 🙁

Since we just had a discussion about movies, well movie stars, I have a question for Claycord readers. Whenever there’s a list of the greatest movies of all times Casablanca and Citizen Kane is always in the top 5, depending who is doing the list, I’m not counting random lists on UTube, but rather AFI and movie critics. I love Casablanca, have seen it several times. I did watch Citizen Kane some years ago, because I kept hearing how great it was, however, I just couldn’t get into it. I watched the whole movie, but have no desire to see it again. I’m interested if others have the same opinion, or am I off base?

I sort of agree. I think that Citizen Kane is one of the best of all time. Same with It’s a Wonderful Life. That doesn’t mean that I want to watch either multiple times. To me, if a film makes an impact on you, happy, sad, joyful, depressing, exciting, horrifying; the movie evoked the intended emotions. That’s what creative greatness does.

I have had no desire to see Casablanca (saw some part back in college, no recall the scene or anything) nor Citizen Kane, but I also am not one to recognize “art” in movies. Regardless, I would not say you are off base, simply because you did not find a “critically acclaimed” movie to be entertaining.

Guess you are not into beautiful women. Ingrid Bergman was luminous in Casablanca. Look up a few short clips on Utube and you will see what l’m talking about. Casablanca were a love story for the ages. It didn’t work out between Bergman and Bogart, but like Bogart said “We’ll always have Paris”

Married man, so only one beautiful woman, and in real life, not an image on a screen. I have never been interested in these types of movies. Certainly not any “love story.” That’s just me…

@Hanne
No, I don’t believe you’re off base regarding “Citizen Kane”. Just like I don’t believe I’m off base for not liking “A Streetcar Named Desire”……meh. Your other mentions, “The Big Chill” and “Casablanca” are terrific movies. It’s everyone’s own personal preference.

Givengold, I love “It’s a wonderful life”, it has so many lessons in it that we all could learn from. Casablanca and From here to eternity, is some of my favorite movies. Both are cast perfectly and every scene works. It is really hard to say which film is best, there are many I love, because of the subject matter, who stars in it etc. A few comes to mind: In the heat of the night, Dr.. Zhivago, The Big Chill (The Big Chill speaks to my generation, and reminds me of the group of friends I hung out with in the late sixties) Dr. Strangelove, The Oxbow Incident, another movie with a powerful message. All for me is better than Citizen Kane, so I guess there is something about Citizen Kane I don’t get.

Isn’t anyone even curious? This is R rated stuff! Hanne…. you said “There is something about Citizen Kane I don’t get”. Read this and you will understand all of it.

I get the story of Citizen Kane, it just does not strike me as one the best movies of all times. However, like someone commented it is personal preference. I heard a radio talk show host years ago saying “Top Gun” was the best movie in his opinion. Now I love Top Gun, it is entertaining, great music, good looking guys, it is certainly a good movie, but not up there with the best of all times. As for Casablanca, for me it is the story, the actors, Bergman and Bogart, and I’m not even a huge Bogart fan. I heard Dustin Hoffman explain it once, he said the director did a perfect job, did not linger too long or too short on the scenes. I feel the same way about “From here to Eternity”, the actors, the story. Everyone cast perfectly and every scene works.

I was putting gas in the car last week and noticed a car on the next island and a couple of guys trying to put gas in it. After a few minutes of no success, they drove off. The car was a new Mustang Mach E with no plates on it, apparently from the nearby Ford dealer. The Mach E is a full electric SUV. They live among us.

Busted my gut!!!

yep, internet is full of such videos…. is kinda funny….
