California Highway Patrol investigators are looking for more information about a collision early Thursday morning on Interstate Highway 680 that left a pedestrian dead.
At 4:34 a.m., the CHP was advised of a collision between a vehicle and pedestrian on southbound I-680 near Contra Costa Boulevard. A Toyota Corolla was unable to avoid the man, who was reportedly down in the middle lanes.
All southbound lanes were closed at 4:43 a.m. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the Toyota wasn’t injured. All southbound lanes reopened by about 6 a.m.
CHP investigators say there may have been an additional vehicle involved or other witnesses with information about the collision. They ask anyone with information to contact the CHP’s Contra Costa-area office at (925) 646-4980.
I feel horrible for the Toyota driver.
And there is a pedestrian tunnel!! That goes UNDER the freeway! Ridiculous
Remember, Exit. It’s now legal to jaywalk until the laws of physics catch up to you.
This was my friend and co-worked who got killed. He was not a homeless person. He was a hard worker up at the crack of dawn getting to work to provide for his family. He was driving on the freeway when something happened, we don’t know what yet, and he exited the vehicle and was hit and killed. I ask that you please be respectful but know not to expect that from a comment section on a news site. His was a very good man with a loving family and many many friends. This news is devastating for us.
.
Not a good idea to exit the vehicle except on the right shoulder. Position the vehicle to the right as far as possible, engage emergency flashers, and position yourself FORWARD of the vehicle while waiting for assistance.
.
If on the left (next to Number 1 lane or “fast lane”) with or without an emergency shoulder, engage the emergency flashers, exit quickly, and position yourself far FORWARD of the vehicle while summoning or waiting for assistance.
.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CROSS THE FREEWAY. Vehicles are traveling much faster than they appear.
