The following is from the Concord Police Dept.:
In August 2021, CPD Officers responded to an overdose death of a 14 year old girl at her home. She was found deceased by her father. CPD Detectives were called out, to include a CPD Detective assigned to our local DEA Task Force and a CPD Detective assigned to our local Contra Costa County Safe Streets Task Force.
A lengthy investigation revealed she had ingested a counterfeit pill that she didn’t know was laced with fentanyl.
The victim ingested only one-half of a pill, causing her death.
Detectives were able to identify a drug dealer in Concord who was supplying the fentanyl laced pills.
Alejandro Urias, 22 years old at the time, was arrested.
With this investigation being part of a DEA Organized Crime/Drug Enforcement Task Force, Urias was prosecuted in Federal Court.
He was found guilty and sentenced to eight years in Federal Prison last week.
Our thoughts and prayers remain with the victim and her family.

Luckily FEDs are still willing to take the garbage out of circulation.
.
If there is no threat of incarceration,
there is no deterrence to criminal behavior
Yes, but the big issue is what’s being done to keep fentanyl from getting into the country, in the first place?
p.s. How’s China Joes wide open borders working out for you(especially those that voted for him)? It’s sure not working out well for all the kids who are dying because of it.
…. in the news today – there was enough fen captured at the southern border in 2022 to kill 100 million people… we have a porous border that needs much tighter vetting, but of course our political leadership won’t do anything about it because of their focus on their careers rather than doing the right thing … good job LE though! Thanks!
The open border is a political strategy. Therefore escalating drug deaths are simply viewed as collateral damage.
the drug deaths may be part of the strategy
All fentanyl enters through legal and inspected entry points, not because the “open border”stop reading social media posts and inform yourself correctly, RIP to the child
You really have no clue what you’re talking about. Do you think an open border does not let illegal drugs through as well as illegal immigrants most of the fentanyl captured did not go through illegal entry points.
Well, the smugglers have the option of sneaking it through a heavily secured checkpoint, or they can bring it through the open borders. Seems pretty much a no brainer, there.
I think it may be YOU that needs to be informed of all the problems with open border. It’s not just drugs and or material to produce illegal drugs. It’s human trafficking & abuse to our immigrants, in addition to all the drug, gang, & cartel issues. Why does USA Allow these cartels to make Billions off human lives? Are they on the cartel payroll, so they look the other way as they shelp folks around US to hide them? It’s Their Job to protect US, USA Citizens & they don’t. Why do you think this happens or do you just not care about others? Do you realize it’s the churches & non-profits that help these folks? Did you know they are inundated with folks needing help? I have heard horror stories of what they have gone through. We don’t take care of the folks we have due to overwhelmed programs & lack of resources, you know the revenue to pay for all this. Shame on you & these politians who can’t do their flipping job. If it were me, I’d be fired & rightfully so. You can’t “fix” what you REFUSE to acknowledge!
What do you mean?
It’s not just the Feds.
Our state prisons remain filled to capacity.
Good Job CPD.
Teach your kids that drugs kill. There is no threat when they won’t ever use them in the first place.
Oh please, Pollyana!
We teach teens that speeding, drunk driving and AIDS kill, yet they still drag race, drive drunk and have unprotected sex.
Simply teaching kids that certain behaviors entail catastrophic risk does not reliably impart sound risk assessment.
Those kids do those things because of bad parenting. I am advocating for the opposite. Jeesh.
@OH, PLEASE….You mean the Betty Ford approach? That worked so good back in the 80s.
You mean the Nacy Regan approach? (“Just Say ‘No’”)
It is more than teaching your kids that drugs kill, etc. It is constant discussion, and that may not even make a difference. I am fortunate that my children avoided all drugs, but it was constant discussion, surveillance and education.
Oh Please 🙄 did that work for you with the release of Reefer Madness? Because, you sound like you’re high now!
Eight years for murder? How about at least twenty?
Sooo you’re telling me he will be out and free in the streets by the time he’s 32 lol. 8 years for homicide wow amazing, not…..
8 years. Yet, just a week ago, a guy was sentenced to 9 years for contracting without a license (fraud and no worker’s comp, etc., but no deaths). Nice to know how easily these lethal doses get into this country. It is harder to get into the courthouse to serve your civic duty on a jury than it is to sneak (not even sneaking anymore, just basically walking in) to this country.
