Good thing – if they were they would be getting a real backlash – they’ve known the issue for almost a year!

Call it what it was vote buying.

our benevolent jailers.

I wouldn’t pay taxes on it anyway, besides already filed and got refunds back 2 weeks ago..a little late to announce this…

There was too much fraud with that refund. Taxing people for money they never received would have created one big headache for the IRS.

Never got mine but I’m poor for bay area sooo maybe not middle class just blue collar union wages…

Didn’t get mine, either, and I qualify.
They should have figured out the Federal tax situation earlier.

The IRS has more important priorities like going after the small business owners and Middle Class. Just let them eat cake.

Taxing working class peoples earnings that have already been taxed multiple times. The government is a parasite that sucks the life blood of honest hard working law abiding citizens.

I donated mine to the Children’s Hospital Foundation. They raise money for the Children’s Hospital in Oakland, which is a non-profit organization doing wonderful things for children. I absolutely disdain Gavin Newsom, so it would be hypocritical if I took anything from him.

This MCTR rollout was a failure! First off, the majority of taxpayers had no idea that these refunds would be sent out in the form of a debit card. Many people I know thought that it was a scam. Second, the IRS and the FTB need to get their act together (which won’t happen) and have these type of issues (taxable or not; etc) and all tax forms ready to go by December 31. There is no reason for this not being accomplished.

Well they made me pay for it since CA sent me a 1099-Misc which I reported and it was included as income. I already filed and paid my taxes.

We received our ‘middle-class tax refund’ debit card, but it was hacked.
Only used it twice before the funds were missing.
I heard this happened to some other folks too.
Glad not have to pay taxes on money someone else got for free.

being the cautious type, in the past I went right to the back, activated the card there and deposited it all… leaving a zero balance on the card… haven’t gotten the recent one yet, so hope my same process works the same.

How is a tax refund considered income? If this is truly a tax refund, I take this as the state used the money they extracted from my earnings as taxes to put into their general (state government party money/slush) fund, gave a little taste of it back to me with the hope I would vote for nuisance. My tax “refund” is but a tiny percentage of what they mulcted from our family.

Unfortunately, the state issued 1099-misc box 3 “other income” for those that received $600 or more in the MCTR – this is where the issue stems from.

I see…I just got ours a couple weeks ago, so, should be no issue for us this year, until they change their minds to extract that pound of flesh.

What were the qualifications to receive one of these? I work in Danville and see them being used by folks driving Bentleys and discussing their European vacation plans all the time.

PS Taxation is theft.

Lol, the GARBAGE irs.
This is the reason why Nobody is forthcoming regarding Anything financial when it comes to the irs.
For One. None of us have agreed to Any contracts with the irs.
Two, None of us are under any kind of subpoena from the irs.

Taxation without representation = Total Theft.

Did you ever wonder why Newsom farmed out your rebate to a New York Company instead of just sending us a state check. It coast me a $ 1.75 to deposit in my bank B.S.
