Sometimes a little thought goes into creating a new area code.

Did you know, the 925 area code number was chosen because 415+510=925?

Before we were the 925, we were the 415, then the 510.

I remember that. It was still 415 when we moved from SF. Was very grumpy when it was changed to 510. Nearly had a fit when we became 925. What will our next one be?

Someone was clever to think of it.

I remember when there wasn’t an area code, and we used two letters and five numbers. When I was a little kid, we even had a party line.
Who remembers dialing popcorn for the correct time?

Our old number when I grew up in Lafayette was Atlantic 34162

Before area code there was 3 letters MUL (MULBERRY) then your 4 numbers

Lived in Martinez and ours was AC8-XXXX.

When I was a kid you whirled the handle on the side of the phone on the wall and told the operator what number or person you wanted (it was a tiny town). Then because it was a tiny town we got automated dialing early as a test site for it. The house that the operators worked out of got replace by a cement block building across the street.

When we got 925, the movie, “9 To 5” was also very popular at the time. Staring Dolly Parton , Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and others. It’s how we remembered the area code … “workin’ 9 to 5 … whatta way to make a livin’ … ”

9 to 5 the movie came out in 1980.
The 925 Area code was added in 1998
I worked at the phone company at the time and was in charge of its implementation.
