Up next in our installment of the newly named Claycord Donut Wars is King’s Donuts on Chestnut Ave. (off Clayton Rd.) in Concord.
King’s has been in business for years. The building has actually been a donut shop since the 1960s, but has held various names throughout the past seven decades.
Let’s get to the point of this post.
Yesterday, we reported the price of Krispy Kreme donuts has recently skyrocketed. We got six donuts on Tuesday for $14.94.
So, we decided to compare. Today, six donuts at King’s Donuts cost $7.50, and they threw in five donut holes for free.
So you basically get the same amount for half the price (plus a few donut holes). King’s is more of a traditional donut shop, while Krispy Kreme donuts seem to have more sugar and are much lighter. King’s also has more of a selection and overall they have better customer service.
CLAYCORD DONUT WARS SCORECARD (donut holes = stars):
- King’s gets 4 out of 5 donut holes.
- Krispy Kreme gets 1.5 out of 5 donut holes.
The Claycord Donut Wars will continue next week.

and…. In a Donut to Donut comparison…… you get much more donut per item
…great donuts! easier on the wallet
Kings Donuts is by far the superior donut!
I’m not a big donut eater, but I’ll take kings over krispy cream any day of the week.
I think the bigger question is HTF is “Best Little Donut House In Town” still open!!!! Between the shadys who hang out there early in the morning, the filth of the place and 7/11 tasting donuts…how are they still open or not showing up on health reports??!
Kings is the best. There is no better chocolate bar anywhere. Period.
Next week better not be Dunkin. Let’s see how all star ranks
Dunkin will be in there, but not for a few weeks. Next week will probably be All-Star in Walnut Creek or Donut King in Pleasant Hill.
Mayor ~
Glad you will be including Donut King in Pleasant Hill in the donut wars.
I think taste test is important for all donuts too!
dunkin isn’t a great donut either
sad face
@S
Their Munchkins aren’t bad though.
Sunrise in Martinez does a pretty good donut.
We’ll add them to our list. Thanks!
Looks like this is turning into a holy war
Doughnut King in Pleasant Hill is far superior.
And a million times more of a doughnut. That’s why they are the Kings.
King Donuts is awesome and the family who runs it are hardworking fantastic citizens! Really nice people. We have been going there for years, every morning there are the older guys hanging out having coffee, the ladies who work there are very kind to them and I love the old-fashioned community customer service there.
King Donuts are the best. Sunrise Donuts in Mtz. is great, too.
They are such Nice People! And Donuts are always Fresh!!!
I haven’t had a donut in many a year. I feel like I am missing out. I could go for a jelly donut right now. With a cup of coffee.
Kings are the best been getting for years
Seems like a tough grading system. With so many people saying King’s is the best, how did they only get 3.5 d-holes? Can the mayor elaborate on d-hole criteria?
I prefer King’s, but don’t forget Chick’s in Park n’ Shop!
There is no comparison. Kings donuts is way better.!
Sure…. stir things up… start a war.
King’s better keep their eyes open now, I’d be expecting Dunkin D’s to be sending a corporate hit man or a crew of phony Yelp!s’ters in to mess with their business! Might need to hire an “Equalizer” to keep watch.
I’ll be there tomorrow to keep a lookout. Wish we had Kings Doughnuts open 24 hours or at least till 10pm.
Love Kings Ladies are awesome…
I’ve been going to Best little Donut House since I was a little kid. Kindest owners, delicious donuts, and the cream cheese croissants are giant and taste amazing. Plus a half dozen still sets you back about $6, plus free donut holes.
I have lived in concord 60 years born and raised.I have been going to kings donuts for many years Wendy and her husband and family are very kind. They always have a nice greet. Always smiling. Just saying they have the best donuts in California
When I go visit family from sac to la I have to bring kings donuts . Weather a good time ir funeral . Everybody luvs kings donuts.
King’s donuts are delicious, Krispie Kreme… not so much.
How about Johnny’s in Lafayette. Too far away?
Kings is also family owned. Let’s support our neighbors! We love their donuts!
Chick’s in Park and Shop has the best donuts anywhere and they have been there forever. Different owners same recipe.
You should start featuring small local businesses of all kinds. Support local. I’ll be going by Half Price Books today in Concord near Krispy Kreme for some present shipping. Donuts sound good I def like Kings better or Best Little Donut shop in town.
Good idea, Schmee.
By the way, Half Price Books is a chain, they’re not local. They have about 130 stores Nationwide. They do have a local feel to them though.
Half price books is a chain?? Consider my mind blown….You’re right it’s the feel.
I have been known to get up at 5am to pick up some Kings donuts. Kings has great donuts and the staff is great.
If you drive by Kings at like 230am they already have the lights on starting the process.
Kings is light years ahead of KK. The KK donuts just are awful.
Love Kings! They always throw in a few bonus goodies too, like the donut holes or some sprinkle donuts!!!
Always drop in to Kings Donuts after my haircut next door at Ray’s Hideaway barber shop!
AD
King’s is the best! I haven’t been in a while but it’s fun to wander by the haircut place next door and look at the old pictures of Cowell – real history there on the walls. It’s worth checking out!
