They’ve been closed for over a month now, and we heard rumors they might reopen, but it appears dreams don’t always come true.

Diablo Lanes Bowling Center (most recently known as Pins & Pizza) on Monument Blvd. in Concord has permanently closed, and the building is now available for lease.

The bowling alley was open for decades, but could never fully recover from the recent shutdown.

It appears Covid got the final strike.

COVID threw ’em a gutter ball. So sucks.

Many parties attended there, it will be missed. 🙁

Honestly, after my most recent experience there I’m really not surprised. Sat at the counter watching the employee bowl for a good amount of time before she came over to help me. There was a drunk girl walking around hitting on the arcade machines, and nobody was cutting her off just continuing to serve her beer. The employees took more smoke breaks in an hour than I take in a week. WAY over priced compared to what it used to be, and what they offer.

This is true for most businesses now. No one wants to work. They just want free government money or an easy-ride job.

How is any of that even remotely true for “most businesses” these days? I’m sure it was overpriced, though – bowling’s last red letter year was when? 1989? 1992? Whatever year Kingpin came out?

This whole “no one wants to work” thing is beyond tired and completely baseless, especially in reply to this persons post.

Reality: Niche activity in area almost always populated by a swarm of police cars closes because owners can’t pay the bills.

OH, PLEASE: “No! It’s because the employees deliberately tanked their bowling alley CAREERS to get WELFARE!”

Well that’s a strike. From reading their yelp reviews it sounds like this establishment has been in the gutter for awhile. Sorry to see another business closed.

Maybe a gun range and bar could open there.

Because that would be a good idea? Or are you being facetious?

Let’s name it:

“Take a SHOT”

Great name !

Sad, for may years that was considered the nice bowling alley around. Unfortunately times have changed and bowling isn’t the same draw it use to be.

I used to work there when I was in high school, and I loved it! I took bowling as a 1st period class my junior year and was able to take care of the dead pins myself. I have a ton of good memories, including walking home, by myself, after midnight, to my house off of Meadow Ln.

That must have been along time ago, because you lived to tell the story. Nowadays you need a bulletproof vest and a magnum and I’m not talking about a dog.

… unfortunately not surprised… and it will sit vacant for a long time imho

The bar there used to be a fun place to meet girls way back when. People I know go to Paddock bowl in Pacheco now to bowl or Clayton Bowl if you want to drink and bowl.

Clayton Bowl is full of and run by meth heads. I know of two people who got jumped there and had to be hospitalized. Not knowing anything about Paddock, I’d say go to Paddock.

.
It’ll become an ethnic grocery store.

And then that will close because everyone over there steals.

ccp strikes again. Does anyone bowl anymore or are they just stuck to their cell phones? Over the years I was in several bowling leagues. It was a good time.

Once Bowling Leagues were kicked out… that was their downfall.

Is that true. They kicked out leagues?

Thanks Bin Laden

Sad day for me man!! I grew up going to Diablo Bowl , that arcade was our haven as kids. Even got in trouble for taken quarters when the machine was busted lol. I’ll miss it. Bill Jones Karate and all the other originals

Clayton Valley Bowl seems to be thriving now. Could the real reason be cause Diablo Lanes put focus on the wrong thing, an arcade, and got rid of half of their lanes to make it?

No big loss, been the worst bowling establishment around for over 20 years…..

Good, I hated bowling there, they had such low quality lanes and equipment always breaking, then add in the fact my league average there was about 50 pins less than at Clayton Bowl. Granted I never hit 300, but did bowl 299 and 298 at Clayton. Hope Clayton Bowl takes off now.

In 1984 there was a drive by shooting/death right in front of it and hasn’t got any better since then. The demographics decide what happens in that area and it’s never anything good.
Rest in peace Verne.

Recent ownership ran this place in the ground

Just more urban blight

Should have cashed in my dad gum tickets. Had 233k. Was saving up for the PS3.

The guy who bought it didn’t know the first thing about bowling and ran it to the ground. Been going here since pleasant hill lanes closed. Hope someone who know what they are doing re opens it

This is so sad. I bowled here for my high school PE class in the late 1970s. This was the last original business that was located at four corners.
I’m not sure my beautiful little town of Concord is the perfect place I grew up and lived in

I remember a couple months ago my bf and I got in line for bowling but they were busy so they put us on a waiting list. They said they’d call me when they had an open lane so we could pay and play. We were waiting on the side of the counter for over 30 mins. I didn’t get a call so I went back in line and asked how much longer for the wait and they said they called my phone and since I didn’t answer I lost my place in line. I didn’t have no missed calls, and I was on my phone I didn’t get nothing. They said I can go back on the waiting list…I just walked out wasn’t going to wait no more. Last time I went 😒

Today is a good day to let it go 😁
