The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) has been awarded a $723,651 grant to educate teens, young adults and the public on the consequences and dangers of impaired driving to reduce driving deaths and injuries.
Funding from this grant will provide opportunities for students, educators, parents, prevention specialists and law enforcement to collaborate on projects that educate youth about the dangers of underage drinking, driving under the influence, and binge drinking and alcohol abuse, including:
- Training committees of college-age students to present the risks of underage drinking to their peers;
- Creating a teen influencer YouTube channel aimed at preventing underage drinking;
- Delivering statewide presentations to parents about how to talk to their children about underage drinking.
“ABC supports this effort to educate communities about the impact of impaired driving and underage drinking. We all strive to make public roadways safer in California,” said ABC Director Eric Hirata.
ABC protects communities through education and by administering prevention and enforcement programs designed to increase compliance with California’s alcoholic beverage laws.
Oh? Good brainwashing for a change? My goodness.
Do they engage contractors for this work (e.g. YouTube channel influencer)? Does it go out to bid? How do they measure success? Do we every see any status reports on the work and the burndown of almost 3/4 of a million dollars? Just a taxpayer asking simple questions….
Growing up in a Sicilian family, my grandfather had a wine cellar in his basement, and made his own wine. Our family always had a glass of wine with dinner, us kids would have a small amount with them, and we’d all say a toast, “salude!” at the dinner table. In many European countries, wine or beer is a part of their culture, and children learn that alcohol is to be drunk in moderation. It’s too bad American children aren’t taught at home that alcohol is something to drink in moderation.
When I was a little kid my dad would come home from work, open and beer and pour me a shot glass of it. Also got Tom’n Jerry’s and Creme De Menthe at holday times. Wine when in high school. By the time my friends turned 21 I could sit back and laugh at them getting swacked. The mystery and intrigue was long gone for me. 😄
I thought Ca. was broke. Ronald Reagan had it right . The top 9 most terrifying words in the English Language are: I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.”
Are young kids more prone to drink or take drugs in today’s world?
@RICARDOH…. Probably, many aren’t taught much at home about common sense, consequences, moderation, work ethics and patience. What they learn from is as close as a little screen attached to the end of their arm. Just an observant old man’s musings here…..
Seems like this should be taught in the home but then again, there are many more stupid parents nowadays, especially in California!
to educate teens, young adults…
Bad choice of a file photo?????
I’ve heard that teens these days are incredibly immature.
