U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy installed new postmasters for three Bay Area cities this week.
Ernesto Avila becomes the 26th postmaster for Antioch.
Lynnette Hill, a 16-year U.S. Postal Service employee, is now Fairfield’s new postmaster.
And, Tracy Tan is now the new postmaster for San Leandro.
Avila, Hill and Tan took their oaths with DeJoy on Monday, when he administered the oath to a total of 31 new California postmasters.
“It’s truly a surreal moment. Never did I think nor expect that I would one day become a postmaster in charge of hundreds of employees-much less a whole city,” Tan said. “However, with this new beginning, I hope to strengthen the systems my predecessors have established and continue to grow with the city of San Leandro.
“A postmaster is a leader who builds a foundation on integrity and humility and who attempts to meet the needs of all their employees; a Postmaster is a leader who does not seek to erect a pedestal for themselves but rather build a platform for all”, Hill said. “It is my goal as a postmaster to train, mentor and encourage my team which in turn, allows the United States Postal Service to reap its greatest gain on its investment: our dedicated employees.”
Avila, a 22-year postal employee, started his postal career in Antioch in 2000 as a letter carrier.
“It is a tremendous honor to be appointed the twenty-sixth Postmaster for the city of Antioch. I have a profound sense of pride for not only being given the opportunity to serve my own community but to do so in the office where I began my career,” he said.
