Contra Costa County’s Board of Supervisors honors Veterans and invites the community to the Annual Veterans Day Celebration on Tuesday, November 8, 2022, at 11:00 am in Board Chambers at 1025 Escobar Street, Martinez.
The keynote speaker is Brigadier General Bart Gilbert. Gilbert is a retired United States Army Officer with over 40 years of Army and Reserve service. Gilbert also served 27 years in Contra Costa as Director of the County’s General Services Department.
“On this Veterans Day, we express our profound gratitude for the service and sacrifice of our Veterans,” said Board Chair, Supervisor Karen Mitchoff. “We honor these heroes who protect the ideals of freedom and democracy. We also celebrate the 75th anniversary of Contra Costa County Veterans Service Office which has been vital to serving the needs of Veterans and their families.”
The celebration event will also feature a color guard ceremony by Heritage High School Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC). Concord High School’s Ladies First will be performing a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem, the Service Medley, and American the Beautiful. Ladies First is a select barbershop group comprised of singers from grades 9-12.
This year, the ceremony will feature a special recognition for the 75th anniversary of the Contra Costa County Veterans Service Office and the assistance they have provided to the veterans in our community.
Following the Veterans Day Ceremony in Board Chambers, the public can continue the celebration at the Martinez Veterans Memorial Building at 930 Ward Street (corner of Court Street and Ward Street) in Martinez for lunch.
