This weekend, October 15-16, will be the first of three non-consecutive weekends over the next two months when free buses will replace trains between the Pleasant Hill and Concord BART stations.
This is happening because workers need to complete the replacement of concrete ties near the Pleasant Hill Station which were damaged as part of the derailment on this portion of the track in June.
BART has been operating trains at reduced speeds in this part of the system since the incident. Track crews will need the entire trackway space to safely perform these repairs.
On the following weekends free buses will replace trains between the Pleasant Hill and Concord stations:
- October 15-16
- October 29-30
- November 12-13
Riders in the area should expect delays of 30 minutes on the bus bridge weekends.
To avoid the bus bridge, riders can begin their westbound trips at Walnut Creek or Lafayette. Both stations have had ample parking on weekends throughout the pandemic.
On Saturdays and Sundays impacted by the shutdowns the last train of the night that normally leaves Antioch Station at 11:44 pm will be cancelled up to Concord Station. Passengers traveling southbound can catch the earlier train at 11:14 pm on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, all of the Saturday-only trips that begin or end at Pittsburg/Bay Point will be cancelled.
Riders can keep up with service impacts including the latest real-time departure information by downloading the official BART app. BART’s Trip Planner has been updated to include the latest information on the bus bridge so it will be clear for riders that they must get off a train at Concord or Pleasant Hill to continue their trips. This information is also being shared with third-party planning apps.

This is such a nuisance for anyone living near the repairs! All night grinding, beeping and yelling by the workers! We don’t even use Bart, so the fact that it’s old and not performing doesn’t matter to us but we have to endure the all night work on weekends when we should be resting and preparing for the next work week. And if you have newborns or small children, BART doesn’t care about you or your family! I can’t believe that buying a house for over 800k and this is what you have to deal with!
