Sorry, can’t feel sorry for the squirrels, raccoons, or opossums.

I have a flowerpot in a tree that one off the local young squirrels has been digging in and ruining the flower. It has been going on for weeks. When I catch him digging I chase him and up the tree he goes. During the heat spell he was lying flat in the pot and I thought he has already ruined the plant so I stopped chasing him. Every time I went out on the patio he would be in the pot and all you could see were his eyes watching me to see if I would make a move. I watered the pot every morning so it would be cooler for him.

That’s how they live and survive the winter, they have to bury their food, acorns, etc.and dig them up later for themselves and their babies. If you get to know them they are sweet little creatures and very smart.

Aunt Barbara. There are plenty of places that they can bury their food in, they don’t need my flower pots. In the end I let him ruin the flower.

Aww, Ricardo that is so cute, so nice of you to think of the squirrels.

Martinezmike September 13, 2022 - 11:32 AM - 11:32 AM

Rodent Rescue doesn’t sound as nice. Squirrels are rats with blow dried tails. ( But the hawk in my tree loves them. )

Hanne Jeppesen September 13, 2022 - 3:51 PM - 3:51 PM

Who knows how a squirrel thinks, obviously he found something special about Ricardo’s flower pot. I had a bird feeder and the squirrels would empty it in just a day or two, got too expensive, so l bought a squirrel proof feeder, however l would drop some seeds on the ground so the squirrels still got a treat. I love all animal, snakes and the likes not so much, but l wouldn’t want to hurt them.

Rescuing squirrels? What a waste of time and money.

Ricardoh September 13, 2022 - 4:42 PM - 4:42 PM

You are right but I can’t resist. Once a nest got blown out of my palm tree and I found two young squirrels on the lawn that survived so I took them to Lindsey. At least I stopped feeding squirrels. I had a possum camped on top of my patio cover under the roof eaves for over a year. He came down every night and came back every morning. Never made a noise during the day.

Why they are living creatures, we should treat all living creatures with compassion and kindness, especially animals, they can’t speak for themselves, so other must.

We are suppose to share our surroundings with the creatures that live around us.
