3,000 Without Power In Pleasant Hill, Martinez, Lafayette

About 3,000 PG&E customers are without power this afternoon in parts of Pleasant Hill, Martinez and Lafayette (see map shown above).

The outage started around 4 p.m., and PG&E says there is no estimated restoration time.

The outage was caused by the “weather,” according to PG&E.

Oh my! How are people going to charge their electric cars to get to work tomorrow?

Flintstone’s style. Stick your feet out from the bottom and run with it.

good question! crock of 💩

.
Enjoy the heat!!
.

As a Rorschach test, I see a lobster.

Get over the EV charging already, everyone I know that has a EV vehicle has solar and their own charging station they don’t need any outside power to charge their vehicles get a clue you sound like a broken record..

Forreal lol. Like uhh they’re probably still charged anyway? Charges last a while. Idiots wanna bring up EV every chance they get like gas cars aren’t contributing more to this climate crisis.

So why did the ISO ask us not to charge our cars?

@Fellow AntiLib
Better watch who you call idiots making a statement like that because you obviously don’t know what you’re talking about.

Wait….weren’t the owners of EV’s asked not to charge their vehicles over the weekend?

@LocalAntiLib

I like how you say everyone you know. For all we know, you could know only one person who has an EV car and solar. 🤣 We on the other hand don’t have solar but have a spare car so if my husband can’t charge his Tesla, well guess he’s taking his prelude to work. 👊🏻

EV cars run on coal fired electric grids. The good news is your coal charged EV can go in the commute lane.

That’s really likely the only advantage aside from appearing to be ecologically minded. Why else do they have the lame body styles? To scream out to others, “Hey I have any ugly car, ‘cause I’m doing the whole EV thing and I want you to know it”.

Since the Newsom governed California refuses to plan ahead for fire season, and to add water desalination plants, it’s clear all this EV nonsense is based in politics and money for special interest groups. Don’t be a sucker.

@Local
How many folks do you know that have an EV? Is it one or 10 or more?

Also, do you realize that many people have solar, but if the power is off at the house … the house is not provided power, which means the car is not charged. Only if you have a battery back up will your house have power and be able to charge the car.

At least that is the way my solar panels work, though I do not have a car that the government can dictate when and when I do not charge it. I happily drive a car powered by fossil fuels and will do so until these blackouts become a thing of the past.

Back to my original question. I personally only 4 with EV’s. Of those 4, only 2 have solar. One lives in the San Mateo hills and he does not have enough solar real estate to justify solar panels on his house unless he clears a bunch of trees out. The other lives in an apartment in San Jose – he bought the car used and charges it at work or public charging stations.

@ Fellow
EV cars are most assuredly contributing to the climate crisis. The lithium Ion batteries need to be disassembled are considered hazardous waste. Some car MFG are reusing the tired batteries from cars, but not all. For those being disassembled, it happens in places where they are not as concerned about the health/safety of the folks involved. Oh and dont forget what it takes to make one of those EV batteries and the impact it has on the environment.
But you keep believing that EV cars are safe for the environment.

Yes, gasoline powered cars also do damage …. but not to the same extent. Internal combustion impact occurs when it is driven, less driving = less impact. EV, impact is when built of when disposed of, no matter if driven or not.

So, everyone you know and everyone else that depends on a motor vehicle for transportation can and will be able to afford their own charging station.
Comical! That sounds so Gavin and Joe liberal Democrat!
As the old saying goes – There’s no such thing as a simple answer to a complex question’.

not everyone can use solar or wind or has a garage or money for all that crap! wake up and live in reality deceived believer!

@local – everyone I know with an EV does not have outside solar. Just like ones financial investments – it is never wise to have your eggs all in one basket.

@local, true, as it depends on the neighborhood. Affluent families will have both solar panels and the EV. Perhaps power outages aren’t an issue for them, but there are trade-offs. Hopefully they vetted a good solar panel installer, as the ones I’ve heard with new installations ended up with mold and roof leaks due to improper installation. On hot days like today, solar panels drop efficiency. The panels start to wear out after 10 years or so, which may require replacing. Again, I figure these scenarios are compensated with the controller that is used. I admit looking into panels last year, but cost wise, it didn’t make any sense. Figure 20K for solar panels and 50K-100K for a Tesla didn’t justify any savings. I’m sure they look cool though, lol.

I’m glad I still have my Cadillac, no charge needed.

Yep, we’re one of the homes without power. According to PG&E, looks like it could be a long time before power is restored. 🙁
Killing time at my sister’s house for now, but we hope to be back home before bed.
Stay cool, friends!

I’m in Pleasant Hill and the power came back on at 7:45pm I ran my generator from 3:30pm to 7:45pm. We must be low priority because every time PG&E runs low on power our grid gets turned off. I love living in the ghetto.

Ya, we are in a hospital and police department area and we have been shut down 3 time now in the last 2 weeks. the first time was for 4 hours starting at dinner time then second was at 7pm for 3 hours and this last time was for 3 hours in 105 degree weather at 4pm .

Power is off again in Pleasant Hill.

Wondering if a reporter will ask the question, were outages nothing more than overload and blown fuses ? ?

Perhaps time to refigure load calculations

No the outage was not caused by the weather. PGE turned the power off. Tell it like it really is you crooks!

There have been no rolling blackouts yet from this heatwave so anyone that has lost power is not from that.
Last month our neighborhood lost power and several neighbors commented to me that oh it’s a rolling blackout and I commented no don’t you guys ever read your PG&e bill we’re a block 50 we do not ever have rolling blackouts.

PG&E turned my power off twice yesterday for two hours each time. The reason given was “the heat.” Sounds like a rolling blackout to me.

Pge listed absolutely no rolling blackouts yesterday so I don’t know who the hell turned your power off and for whatever reason but it was not a rolling blackout so get over it already.

The power goes out way too often at our house. I can’t believe people keep voting for the status quo.

So where’s the study that shows how much strain on the grid charging up EVs cause? Suppressed maybe?

If it gets too hot for too long, even though there is power available on the grid, PG&E can have LOCAL issues with their infrastructure. The power lines and transformers can reach a point where unless they are shut down and allowed to cool they can fail… triggering an even longer outage.

Sounds to me like the transmission lines feeding this area were overloaded, possibly to the point of danger.
