Cal ISO Issues Statewide Flex Alert For Wednesday

By Tony Hicks – The California Independent System Operator (ISO) has issued a statewide flex alert for 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday because predicted scorching temperatures may drive up energy demand and tighten available power supplies.

Temperatures, forecast to be over 100 degrees in inland areas of Northern California, will likely drive up air conditioner use. The power grid operator is calling for voluntary conservation to help balance supply and demand.

The state urges people to conserve electricity, especially during the late afternoon and early evening, when the grid is most stressed due to higher demand and less solar energy. Reducing energy use during a flex alert helps stabilize the power grid during a time of tight supply, preventing further emergency measures that include power outages.

The ISO recommends that, before 4 p.m., energy users pre-cool their homes by setting the thermostat to as low as 72 degrees and use major appliances, if necessary. Adjust blinds and drapes to cover windows.

During the flex alert from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Californians should set thermostats to 78 degrees or higher if health permits, avoid using major appliances, and turn off all unnecessary lights.

How are we supposed to charge our electric car in time for our trip?

Get a diesel generator. 🙂

EXACTLY

A diesel generator won’t be any good if they ban all fossil fuel.

Spare the air alert, possible lightning storm, water shortage, flex alert, heat advisory…anything else?

Don’t forget your N95 masks to prevent spread of monkey pox. At least two for you and one for your pet.

And make sure you get rid of natural gas appliances because that makes sense too.

The new Inflation Busting BS bill will increase taxes on your NG.

Nice to be on a Block 50. I was amused at the forecast last night for possible lightning when checking radar there was not a cloud in the area. And many clouds today will stick around long enough to keep things cooler than expected. Otherwise, it’s August.

Be sure to keep your electric car’s tires properly inflated. This could mean the difference between grid or no grid, and therefore drive or no drive.

Also, manually operate your garage door during peak hours. During times of power outages, push your beached EV into the garage to avoid trouble with your homeowners association.

😂😂😂😂😄 And they want people to have electric cars, and they cannot produce electric . I wonder where the electricity will take to load cars? From Mars?

Wondering where CA voter limit is for enviro green stupidity?

Did away with peaker power plants built specifically for use during peak demand periods, WITHOUT having equivalent generation capacity built and available for use.

Ponder this when sweating in the dark.

Speaking of green stupidity, Biden’s new “Inflation Act” will increase taxes on coal, fossil fuels, diesel and oil. And in turn, it will mean higher energy prices, food prices, and gas prices.

And — an army of new IRS agents to squeeze every last dime that they can out of the middle class.

People won’t be able to afford any car, let alone an electric car.

Hey Honey!!
Fire up the Grill for Dinner.
Mama ain’t cooking in the kitchen tonight …. 🙂

Thanks for the laugh Roz. I really needed that.

More evidence that California is entering third-world nation territory. At least Tom Bodett can keep the lights on.

Ha, CA sucks so hard….can’t even supply energy to its citizens. Enjoy that thermostat at 78 degrees and no cooking!

I have no problem charging my electric car, I have solar on the roof and storage batteries in the garage. I’ve had the system for a little over 4 years and have never come close to being without power…… Why all the solar hate?

No solar hate. The passion, perhaps, is the idea of flex-alerts due to overtaxed electric grids.

While simultaneously and purposefully importing illegal aliens through open borders and encouraging the ignorant to take on debt to purchase electric vehicles the grid(s) likely can’t support. In short, the California infrastructure isn’t in place to make solar viable at this time.
The solar cart is several miles ahead of the solar horse, which have both been placed behind the Newsom cannonball train to nowhere.

It’s not about solar, it’s not about green, and it’s not about climate change. It’s about money and political favors. A sizable percentage of the public have figured this out.
