GEICO has reportedly closed all 38 of its agent offices in California, laid off hundreds of employees, and will no longer sell insurance through telephone agents in the state.
Californians can still obtain GEICO policies in the state, but only through a computer or a mobile device, posing a challenge for those who are not technologically proficient.

It is just business cost cutting move. Congratulations to warren buffet.
Agreed.
Geico has reported it’s first underwriting loss in the first quarter in 21 years. This is not about anything within California specifically and shows a trend of cutting employees and relying more on their cloud based user interface as opposed to in person agents.

Great job Mr. Gavin Nuisance
How is it his fault If a private company decides to close brick and mortar location? They will still sell you a policy and you can communicate with them via text and thru the internet. Haters usually are confused by reality.
@Phil
The cost of paying rent and workers in California is cost prohibitive and NewScum and the Democrats continue to flush California down the toilet!
Higher taxes, more regulations, and restrictions might be one of the reasons Geico is leaving. If that is one of the reasons, then some of the blame would fall on Newsom’s shoulders
I just hope that little gecko lizard is still employed.
So, Tsa, you think it’s okay to sum up all the blame for the cost of living and doing business in CA and put it on one guy? Simple solution for a simple mind. The state’s problems are far more complex than that, but they generally boil down to one root cause: too many competing interests, all clamoring for a piece of a limited pie. It’s not one person’s fault; it’s everybody’s.
@Phil
Obviously you’re California educated because you can’t read a complete comment. Try again…
@Phil
It’s his fault because Gavin is their boogie man.
Phil sounds like one of those capitalism-is-a-zero-sum-game guys.
And so it has begun…….
Now it just becomes a nice place to visit..etc,but I don’t erven think it’s that anymore…..
A world class city is now world class $hi&*y
James, Yes, the “city” of California is is dire straights because you say so. 🤦♂️
Deven/little kid.
I was giving an example of what California has ruined. IE San Fransisco.
Anyone with as brain knew what I meant.
One must have an IQ to understand subtlies,but that one even a 6 year old could understand.
Tell us how California is doing just fin?
You dont pay your own bills or even have a job,so its the best youll ever have it,cause they own you.
Ignorance is bill,oh junior liberal.
To understand or remember San Fransisco being a world class city you would have to be alive many years ago,but California was never considered world class and now teeny boppers think California is a city,an example of the education system and smart a$$ kids.
Typo:
“Ignorance is bliss oh junior liberal”
Because GEICO closed it’s offices?
Can we also get rid of the commercials now?
But the Gecko is SO cute!
I blame the Gecko.
So true. Never trust a Gecko! “Greed is good,” – – gordon gecko
Another business fleeing California.
.
Now serving “Bidenomics”.
.
Recession!!
Knew CA was anti business, has it become anti Gecko too ? ? ? ? ?
just as long as they don’t close any Progressive offices……..I love Flo……..one of the only commercials I don’t mute.
Geico screwed me over a long time ago. Good riddance.
They are escaping the monkey pox scourge. IT IS EVERYWHERE!!!!
…no surprise… when will Newscum get a clue?
They’re not leaving California. Just funneling all customer interactions to overseas call centers. Oh Joy !!
Geico is one of the worst insurance companies that I have ever dealt with. Progressive is the other one. Good riddance.
First of all, you are completely wrong, DMc. Governors in general, and anti-business activists like Newsom, in particular, have a lot to do with the cost of doing business in the state.
You are correct that it is all supply and demand, but all of those regulations that you are so fond of serve to reduce supply and drive up costs.
The Gekko, as well as Flo, are a big part of the reason I’m willing to pay extra for ad-free streaming services.
@DMc,
Would you please describe 5 “great things” Gavin Newsome has done for California?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
WDG
DMC – gimme a break… one of his campaign promises was to get under the gas price gouging by big oil and bring parity to the Bay Area & Calif in general… did he? noooooo ..another… he promised to stop the high speed rail to no where and save our tax payer $$ .. did he? nooooo.. French Laundry? Trip to Montana on vacation? Water management ? (lack there of – allowing hundreds of thousands of new home starts this year with no water plan? Grape, Walnut, and almond growers getting almost all the water they want even though much of the product goes to China and India? Allowing surfing parks to be built in the desert during a drought?)… power management? Grid can’t handle going green – others finally see it and convinced him we need oil / gas maybe even nuclear power for awhile…..where is our $400 per vehicle gas relief that Newsom promised in March? will we get another check later then? ….. latest – late in declaring a state emergency on Monkeypox …. could go on but getting tired of typing
@randy
Good job!!
Smartest thing GEICO could do was close all California offices!
Per discussions with my close friend who has many associates in not only Residential but Commercial Real Estate, he advised it’s just not happening Commercially regarding building since the Pandemic. So, no surprise.
Odd, in that it seems to be happening only in California. I did not see that they are closing all offices in other states. Could it be the business environment? How long until our illiberal legislature makes it illegal to save 15% on auto insurance by phone, and require in state offices?
If an insurance carrier has underwriting losses in a certain jurisdiction, they will pull out. California is a tough insurance environment. There are too many ambulance chasing personal injury attorneys and too many juries willing to ignore liability issues and award damages to severely injured people just because they feel sorry for them. Workers Comp is also tough in California. The California labor code is onerous and pathways for comp applicants to collect and to malinger are numerous.
Dmc – and you have expertise in leadership as what?
Don’t just regurgitate the dnc BS. Learn to think for yourself.
