QUESTION: While shopping, do you dump an item you no longer want on a random shelf, or do you take the time to take it back to the correct spot, or give it to a store employee?

Talk about it.

Take it back . I also work at a big box store so it’s kind of personal to me. Something I would like to point out to people is……… when you leave a non- frozen item in the freezer, if it becomes frozen we have to toss it out. We can not legally sell that item. I see this mostly with meat, they pick up fresh then drop in the freezer where the frozen is because they decided to go with that instead. If that meat freezes we can not put it back. It has to be stated on the package previously frozen. Also, who want wants to by fresh hamburger that was frozen then defrosted. We try to check the freezers regularly, but people would be surprised how much food we toss out every day because someone didn’t want to put it back or give it an employee. Find cold items left out all the time. Even ice cream.

If I decide I don’t want something, I will usually return it to where I found it. This is something that was ingrained in me when I was a little kid. My mother would always tell me to leave things where I found them. Not only will return items to where they belong, I also return my shopping cart to the cart corral. I hate seeing shopping carts left all over the parking lot, there’s always a chance that a gust of wind that can cause the cart to roll into a parked car.
When trying on clothes, I will return them to where I found them also, but that’s where I draw the line, I won’t fold them.
A little consideration goes a long way.

@ Dawg ~ We do the same, but being the silly person I am, I also pick up stuff other customers have left too. My Hubby thinks I’m a bit OCD.

I’m with Dawg & Roz. I do the same, and even correct other shoppers misbehavior.
And his people I guess that are holding the world together still.

I always take the items back to where they belong and I don’t understand the rationale of those that don’t….But in reality these days there is so much that I don’t understand about the way my fellow man behaves that the grocery store is among the least of my worries.

I will (almost) always put it back where I got it. If not, I will give it to an employee. Having worked in retail my whole life, it makes me crazy when I see random things in random places. When trying on clothes, I will always put things back on hangers properly and put them back where they belong. I will also pick up clothing off the floor, and rehang them properly and put them back on the racks. If I can’t remember where stuff came came from, I will take them up with the items I’m buying and tell a salesperson I’m an idiot and ask them to find where it goes.

Take it back to where I found it.

There’s a special place in hell for people who don’t put stuff back. I’ll see you there!

With everybody touching stuff and such, I tend (and I don’t believe I’m the only one) that never grabs something that’s out in front.

It depends on if it was mis-priced.
Of course, if it’s refrigerated I would give it to the Clerk.

it depends on why I no longer want it…

I always put it back in the proper space.

Always return it to proper place. Also use shopping carts left in the lot and return it to proper place when finished

The whole shopping cart return subject was gone over in great detail awhile back.
All I have to add in this “placing items back” topic is that I also make it a point to put obviously spoiled items like moldy bread or rancid meat off to the side where the employees who stock the shelves will easily see it and toss it….maybe remember to rotate the stock next time.

I put it back where I got it from. The only time I leave it at a cash register if it rings up at at a price higher than I thought.
