CLOSED: Kick’n Mule Bar & Kitchen On Clayton Rd. & Washington Blvd. In Concord

Kick’n Mule Bar & Kitchen on the corner of Clayton Rd. and Washington Blvd. in Concord’s Clayton Valley Shopping Center is closed, and the closure appears to be permanent.

An eviction notice from the Contra Costa County Sheriff is on the front door, and the space is listed as “available” for lease on the Regency Center website.

The space has housed a couple of other restaurants in the past, including Bella Ristorante, and Pick Up Stix Asian Cuisine.

It had a bad start (no tap beer 1 month after opening) and it never got better.

It’s always sad to see small businesses fail. Somebody probably poured their heart, soul, and savings into that place, but just couldn’t make it in such a business-unfriendly environment.

I don’t think they tried that hard so don’t stay up at night agonizing over it.

Went twice and service was terrible. Never went back and never recommended it to anyone else. That part of town could use a restaurant like that so I was excited when it opened.

This place was awful. They were never open during posted hours (and we were barked at for walking in during business hours and the doors were open and we were told they were closed and to leave), and the one time we actually went the food sucked and the service was terrible.

The rent is too dam’d high!, someone once said.

That’s the reason many places close.

Horrible location.

I never heard of it!

I guess the kickn mule couldn’t make enough bucks

same owners as the one in Danville?

Yes

The one in Danville is also closed. Saw the empty space last week.

Not the same owner. Only franchised name.

… no loss imho

They were full of rude employees from the get go. We attempted twice to give them a try and left BOTH times without being seated and being ignored. You can’t treat people this way and thrive. What a shame.

+1 … felt I was imposing on them for even being there… nobody has to put up with that

I’m still getting over the closing of 1/4 Pound on Clayton Road.

Me too. I really dug that place. It was a great local greasy spoon and we don’t have enough of them around.

1/4 pounder was good. I miss Evies Hamburgers in Walnut Creek (near the Whole Foods) the most. I also miss the Applebees that was in that same parking lot too. RIP to some good places, but ESPECIALLY Evies Hamburgers.

I live in the neighborhood and have never heard of it, probably a good thing

Never got the opportunity to try it out.

Bummed. This place had so much potential……But so many issues!
Never knew when they would be open. Never had consistent beverage offerings. Cracked out waitress.

What it did offer – great place to watch a Warriors game. Outside seating. Additional option for somewhere to go in Clayton.

I tried to reach out to Danville location to see about selling or offering marketing assistance to owner. Never got anywhere. It’s a shame.

Rebecca should have never left. 😍
Maybe Tavo’s can make a comeback there?

I went there once with a friend after we had gone to a wonderful mule restaurant in Napa and were looking for something closer to home. This place was like a small sports bar, TVs everywhere, and super bright lights. There was only one woman working behind the bar and as a server – we felt very bad for her. The food was OK, but the ambiance was not what we were expecting, so we chose not to go back. I’m sad that they closed but not terribly surprised.

They were so expensive. I really wanted them work out in that space.

Loved Pick Up Stix, but only discovered it months before it closed.

Bella was great too, but I never knew when they were open and it never looked like anyone was there, yet they always seemed busy. That corner probably doesn’t do them any favors.

I didn’t know they even opened… it looked neat. I didn’t see much advertising or hear about it from neighbors. That is a good spot. I wish we had more breakfast options in Concord.
Min’s is hit or miss, Huckleberry is overpriced and overrated and the other few are simply MEH.

Check out Nations Hamburgers on Clayton Road across from the iHop. They have a good breakfast and even better burgers.

We love Huckleberry’s and have tried a dozen different items and not a one we didn’t like, we don’t look at prices and they aren’t that high and as far as being overrated they’re a hell of a lot better than most of the other restaurants anywhere around here.

So many locally owned (and some franchised) restaurants are closing now. I cannot figure out why our local “Media” won’t interview these owners (and managers) – and find out WHY they are closing. I guess it’s bad press for real estate.
