Dutch Bros., the Oregon-based chain of drive-thru coffee shops, plans to open a business on Clayton Rd. near Bailey Rd. in Concord.

Dutch Bros. will be located next to Taco Bell, on the property that has been vacant for decades and most recently served as a Christmas tree lot.

The 850-square-foot building will be on the front-end of the property, just a few feet from Clayton Rd.

Plans for the property also include an 8,000-square-foot Kiddie Academy educational child care facility, which would be in the back of the property, further away from Clayton Rd.

I truly wish them luck and success.
I worry though with the worsening economy if people will be splurging to have coffee outside their homes.
I know we have cut our outdoor coffee by almost half. Why Pay $4 to 5 a cup out, when you can make it on your Keurig machine for 50 cents at home.

Why spend 50 cents brewing a stale kcup when you can make a fresh cup of joe you grind yourself for 30 cents?

Why spend 30 cents grinding a fresh cup of joe yourself, when you can buy cheap already ground coffee for 15 cents?

Sadly, a valid concern.

Why buy roasted coffee that has been sitting on the shelf or in the bin for who knows long when you can roast your own?

Because coffee that you make at home doesn’t taste as good as going out and buying it 🙂

I can’t afford coffee by-the-cup, whether it is from a Keurig machine or local barista, but my coffee tastes better than coffee-shop brew.

“Pass the Dutchie pon a left hand side”

So, we all have to reduce water use, and pay more for less water, while they keep approving new businesses that use water. Idiotic California.

Perhaps city should put a moratorium on coffee sizes greater than 8oz until the water situation eases.

.
… bettermthan a vacant building.
.
Thank you for the business choosing to invest their money into the community by offering an option to other chains.

The plans to build there made years in advance, and besides California is always in a drought.

If the line backs up all the way to the street Clayton road is screwed

The lines at Brentwood and oakley are frequently 10 to 20 waits, ridiculously longer during peak. Will give the bonkers lines at Chukfila and innout competition. Expect congestion around that intersection on Friday thru Sunday nights. And possibly shooting and gang fight depending on the clientele they attract from north and south Concord.

On the bright side, I will save a gallon of gas not driving out to the east county ghetto for my rebel drink.

@realist…East County ghetto.. Have you looked at most of Concord… Brentwwod homes have surpassed most of Concord on price… maybe get out of tiur Clayton bubble and explore… you could not be more wrong about Brentwood… Oakley is very much on the upswing.. mindless little Karen

The line and the traffic is going to be ridiculous

Damn Pinkos. Back in my day, that was a christmas tree farm

AJR:
It was never a tree “farm”, but Christmas trees have been sold there.

Could be just a rumor, but I heard that all their employees are required to wear wooden shoes!

. . . and keep their fingers to themselves?

Just what we need, another coffee shop

.
@Sour Grape

So you’d rather have a vacant lot?

Why not acknowledge that a private business is willing to take the chance (a risk) to invest in your community? Economic activity is a sign of vitality.
.

Yes feel free to get rid of Starbucks

@ exit 12 hey… Concord knew they had to attract someone.. couldn’t be in and out.. too religious.. couldn’t be chick-fil-a too religious… so lets go with a company that Concord city council can swallow… no religious or lgbtq problems… Funny how when In-N-Out wanted to come here it would cause too much traffic.. And yet Dutch Bros routinely backs up into the street in both Brentwood and Oakley. So people were right it had nothing to do with the traffic problems in and out would have caused.. Investment in my community? More like beholden to the left

Should be called, “The Dutch Uncles”.

Oh goody, another coffee shop. Have we run out of corporate fast “food”? I can hardly wait.

Judging by the sketch they have provided, Taco Bell parking lot is screwed.

I guess this means no Long John Silver.

Looking forward to a taste of their style of coffee drinks.
Might become a twice a month treat for myself.

Exciting to see a new business come to this dilapidated area of Clayton Rd. That’s not a lot of space for the insanity a DB drive thru brings , so I hope they have a plan for that. They have great coffee and are very supportive of law enforcement and local charities. This is a win for Concord so all you nay-sayers, stay home, drink your Folgers and save $7 ! 😉 but I will enjoy my 18,000 calorie iced coffee because every now and then it’s nice to indulge.

I like the artist’s conception ….. only 5 cars?
The place is either closed or those are just the employee’s cars I suppose.
When Dutch Bros. are open it looks more like a tiny Chic-fil-A or In n’ Out with 100 cars in line.
I don’t know why they are so popular…. I wouldn’t wait more than a couple minutes for a cup of coffee and all those other icy drinks?
No Thanx.

I e been to Dutch Bros from Grass Valley, Citrus Heights, Davis and Oakley. I’ve never seen a line of cars so long that it winds into the street. Coffee is delicious and servers are energetic, unlike Starbucks employees. This is such a welcome site for us. Pro-First Responders with fundraising events to help the local communities.
I just worry about the Kinder Care parking. Where is it?
Surely Concord Planning Commission hasn’t gotten that bad, have they?

About time. All over Northern California.

… just what we need… another coffee place 🙁

I agree. I love my Dutch Bro in Spokane! My close one got demolished by a drunk driver (no one was hurt). I now drive 5 miles a couple of times a month. I love their products and the people are always very friendly! Our lines back up too. I try to avoid the rush hour and after school. 6:30 pm works for me.

Bottoms up expresso would be much better.

My husband raves about this place and I believe it has more to do with the hot young things slinging drinks and rocking out to the latest jams than it’s coffee. BTW, when Mom was staying with us recently she bought Yuban traditional coffee at the store for $7 for 2lbs. I have to admit it was a really decent brew and very economical.

In today’s dystopia, I’m surprised at any investment in Concord outside of pot shops, bail bondsmen, and hookah shops.

I’m looking forward to trying it. Glad to see someone moving into that space.
