The following information is from Save Mount Diablo:
Every year on December 7, Pearl Harbor Day, crowds gather to watch the lighting of the Mount Diablo Summit Beacon.
It’s an annual event to honor those who served and sacrificed.
A joint proclamation was signed on February 25, 2022, at the Veterans Memorial Building in Danville, that will now light the Beacon on Mount Diablo to honor veterans on Pearl Harbor Day, Memorial Day, and Veterans Day.
The Beacon will be lit those three days from sunset to sunrise, beginning in 2022 and every year thereafter.
The lighting of the Beacon this coming Memorial Day will happen after sunset on Monday, May 30, Memorial Day. The Beacon will shine throughout the night and then be rested shortly after sunrise on Tuesday, May 31.
9/11 is another day that should be remembered.
It is, in September! Today we honor the war dead. I wish people would get it right. Veterans deserve to be honored every day, and especially on Veterans Day in November but today is for those who died in service to the nation. It bothers me some can’t get it right.
^ Yeah, what Phil said!
