QUESTION: What website/travel agent do you think has the best deals on vacations?

Also – if you could go on vacation, right now, free of charge, anywhere in the United States, where would you go?

Talk about it….

I just go visit my brother in Concord and see my old home town. If I’m really adventurous, up to Eureka or for some luxury to Truckee. All family visits.

I’ve never used a travel agent, or a website to plan a vacation, because I don’t plan vacations. It’s usually a spur of the moment thing, throw some stuff into the car and off we go. Sometimes we have a destination in mind, and other times we have no idea where we’ll end up. It’s a good way to go, and see places I’ve never been to, and lots of times, places I’ve never heard of and didn’t know existed.
If I could go on a vacation right now, free of charge, anywhere in the US, I might pick upper New England in the Fall.

Getaway Today always has some good deals

If it is a free travel within the US, I will go anywhere to observe that how other people live.

… Alaska

I don’t know if it is a “good deal”, but we are going to Coastal Alaska next month. Fewer cruise ships has resulted in more whales and wildlife sightings, and less crowding at some of the places we plan to visit.

I forgot to mention Alaska as another place I would like to visit.

If you want a great trip to Alaska try, “The Seven Seas Navigator”. Only about four hundred people. Great stops and great food. After you can take a train with the group up to Denali National Park. That’s as good as the cruise. That was a great trip.

Anywhere, not sure. Too many possibilities. I have visited Florida several times, Miami, Orlando, Naples, Fort Walton, however I have never been to the Keys and would love to go. Grand Tetons and Yellowstone is on my bucket list. New England on a fall foliage tour, especially New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine, have been to all three, but first 2 just driving through on the way from Maine to Ct. I guess fall foliage is not applicable to go right now, but it is on my wish list.

When our kids were young and we were almost broke we spent three weeks camping in the Sierras every year. One year we went all around back east by car. Three kids in a station wagon. Now the kids are gone and we have money again Europe and Hawaii are the goals but If it was up to me I would just drive around the country taking in everything.

Not sure if you are into reading much, but “Travels with Charlie” by John Steinbeck details his trip across America with just him and his dog in a camper.

I actually had fantasy about driving all across the country. I been to about half of the states, but several that still leaves a lot to see, other than Wisconsin and Illinois have not been to any of the midwest states, nor some of the Northern states, Michigan and Minnesota, I’m especially interested in Minnesota since many Scandinavians settled there when they immigrated many years ago.

We have used Costco travel. The price is usually the same or better than other websites and you get a Costco gift card for a decent amount when you finish the trip.
We are going on cruises to Alaska and the Mediterranean (Italy, Greece, Turkey, France and Spain.)
I would also like to see Yellowstone and the northern great plaines states.

Hearing about a ton of people doing Mediterranean cruises. They don’t trust American ports to keep their trip in tact.

I love the south of France along the Mediterranean and I also love the Scandinavian coasts.

But, I really love the CA north coast.

A nice rental on the coast with a deck would be an absolute delight.

So if money were no object, that’s where I’d be.

My top 3

#1 Okinawa, Japan (No guns, nor drugs, no crime)

#2 Saigon, Vietnam (I live/work here now, feels like everyday is a holiday)

#3 Baja California Norte (easy access, awesome cheap seafood, great weather)

Enjoy!

They are all winners in my book

Road trip!

My senior clipper card is a good deal.
It lets us make it to the city and a “cruise” on Larkspur ferry for about 20 bucks total.
And frankly that’s about the only cruise we can afford now with the worsening economy!

Travel Agent??

Revenge travel and pricing is real (especially this summer).

We (family of 4) planned on Puerto Vallarta but the hotel we wanted is booked from May to December (May being the slow point in the year).

In July, our family is headed to an all-inclusive in Punta Adventuras for 7 nights.

All in we are spending $13k ($4k for roundtrip SFO to Cancun) and remainder for the hotel (swimming with dolphins and excursions are extra).

In November, our family is taking a cruise during Thanksgiving, leaving Port of LA on the Navigator of the Seas (Royal Caribbean) and headed to Catalina and Ensenada for 4 nights – $3k not including air fair and excursions / incidentals.

Just sharing price points so people get a general idea of vacation costs.

Hope it helps,

TG
