Concord Police Department reminds everyone to always buckle up and keep children in child safety seats.
This year’s “Click it or Ticket” campaign is from May 25 -June 5. During this time, the Concord Police Department will have additional officers on patrol actively looking for drivers and passengers who are not wearing a seat belt. This includes vehicles where children are not secured in child safety seats. “Wearing a seat belt should be an automatic for all drivers and passengers,” Concord Police Department Lt. Mark Robison said.
“It’s the safe thing to do, especially when it comes to securing children in child safety seats.” According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 10,893 people killed in crashes throughout the country in 2020 were not wearing seat belts. In California, 756 people killed in crashes in 2020 were not wearing seat belts, or nearly 20 percent of all traffic deaths in the state.
California law requires a child to be secured in a safety or booster seat until they are at least 8 or at least 4 feet, 9 inches tall. Children under the age of 2 must ride in a rear-facing seat unless the child weighs 40 or more pounds or is 40 or more inches tall.
California has a primary seat belt law, which allows law enforcement officers to ticket someone for not wearing a seat belt without committing another traffic violation.
Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
And always wear your mask.
Especially if you’re all alone in your car.
I always wear my seatbelt, condom, and mask. Even when I am not driving.
In addition to the city having additional officers on patrol actively looking for drivers and passengers who are not wearing a seat belt, why can’t they have those additional officers be on the look-out for drivers on their phone?
I completely agree!
Not wearing a seatbelt while you drive puts you at a higher risk for injury or worse.
Paying attention to your phone while you drive puts EVERYBODY at a higher risk for injury or worse.
To me it is a far bigger issue but for some reason it is almost completely ignored.
You can control how you drive but you can’t control the other driver. In my worst accident the other party was ticketed for going through a red light and driving 45-65 MPH in the Financial District of SF.
He carried the minimum insurance required by the state; $5,000/$15,000 limits. My used car at the time could not be replaced for $5,000. That coverage needs to be increased.
There are still people who don’t wear a seatbelt? Life to them is a game they play. No pity from me.
First they said they would never pull you over or ticket you for not wearing a seatbelt. They would just warn you when they pulled you over for something else.
Then they said they would never pull you over for the seatbelt violation alone, but they would ticket you for not wearing a seatbelt if they pulled you over for something else.
They they said they will pull you over and ticket you for the seatbelt violation alone, which also provides a good opportunity to go fishing for contraband.
Slippery slope indeed.
And…..don’t forget to bring a towel.
In this time of modern car design a seat belt is the best option available to survive a sever wreck.
If people still refuse to use the seat belt then let nature take is course.
And,
don’t forget to pee before you leave.
Some members of the population don’t even have a normal sense of self preservation. Suggestions by government agencies aren’t going to help them.
But what about those unfortunate souls running from police in stolen cars?
How do we motivate them to buckle up before running from the police?
Surely there must be a way to help these victims of society.
Perhaps reduced charges if they are apprehended while wearing a seat belt. And bonus points if they made sure their carjacked victim was also buckled up. Newsom would love this, perhaps I’ll call his office tomorrow with the suggestion.
