Smell Smoke? Fire Burning On The Dock Beneath The Benicia Bridge

A four-alarm fire is raging on the dock beneath the Benicia Bridge, the Contra Costa County Fire Department reported on social media Saturday afternoon.

Smoke is billowing from the fire and the public is asked to avoid the area of the fire located off Bayshore Road near the Amports docks, the Benicia Fire Department said.

If there is a change in wind direction, a shelter-in-place order may be issued within the Benicia city limits, the Benicia Fire Department said. No such order is currently in place, the fire department added.

It looks like it is an oil tanker ship on fire. Can anyone confirm that?

Was coming back from Santa Rosa and saw the black plume from around Sears Point Raceway. By the time we crossed the Benicia Bridge, it was like driving through heavy fog. Lots of fire equipment and tug boats and such trying to put out the dock fire right before you reach the refineries. Smoke was blowing towards Concord. Might be best to stay in for awhile.

From what I saw from the Martinez marina, it’s been been burning since noon. All three ships that were docked there have departed. The car carrier anchored just off the Martinez Marina around 3pm. Nice that they had emergency plans in place to get the ships out of harms way.

@Mtz Guy~
My Hubby works at Valero. He is wondering/thinking it might be the dock where they unload the cars. Maybe someone might chime in and know for sure.

I’m in the same general area, and “yes” re the odor. The air is smoky, too, so let’s hope we get the sea breeze which has been rumored.

Wow, by some miracle I pulled up the purpleair.com map for our neck of the woods before I opened a window, and the three monitors along this track were in the danger zone, so I trusted them and didn’t open the window. If it was only one I probably would’ve opened it, but a straight line of three told me not to. Everything else was green for a thousand miles. I think that is one of the most useful sites I’ve ever needed.
