The “Water Cooler” is a feature on Claycord.com where we ask you a question or provide a topic, and you talk about it.
The “Water Cooler” will be up Monday-Friday at noon.
Today’s question:
QUESTION: What do you think will be the next major retailer to close its doors in Contra Costa County?
Talk about it….
We drove through downtown WC yesterday for the first time in quite a while;
I was surprised to see that Saks 5th Ave is not there on Main St now.!?!?
Did they move or close up this location? … asking for a friend.
@redrazor
Did u mean Neiman Marcus?
Yikes! I meant Neiman Marcus. Brain Fart on my part.
Neiman closed for good. At least part of the space will become Crate and Barrell which will move from its current space to make way for Pinstripes restaurant. Original Joe’s restaurant will also be moving into the old Stanford’s building.
Booyah…..I LOVE Original Joe’s. My aunt used to take us to the original “Original Joes” in San Jose when I was a little girl. She knew the old owner. I beleive his kids now run it. We need a real Italian Restaurant here.
Probably Sears. The last time I was there, it was like a ghost town. It’s too bad, in its heyday, Sears sold quality products, like Kenmore, Craftsman, and Die Hard. Now they’re all made in China using low quality materials, and don’t last as long as they use to.
My first microwave was a Kenmore that lasted 20 years, now I’m lucky if I get 5 years out of one. My Kenmore washing machine is over 20 years old, and still going strong.
I think you’re right. Sears always used quality manufacturers- Whirlpool
made most of the Kenmore stuff,DieHards were made by Interstate
Batteries, I don’t know who made Craftsman, but they used to be quality. You have to buy Craftsman Pro to get American made hand tools.
Sad.
+1 Sears washer and dryer are over 30 yrs old …. when I had my newer refrig serviced the tech said to never get rid of the washer & dryer if I can, they don’t make them to last anymore
I was all-in for Craftsman hand tools when they made everything in USA. But now, I am at a crossroad. Do I spring for SnapOn, MAC, or Marco? Or, just go to Harbor Freight where you can get Crapsman quality at half the price?
Sears at S V Mall
The whole crime ridden Sun Valley Mall. Adios!
New cannabis corporations.
One of the Macy’s.
My guess would be Sears like many others have mentioned.
They’ve been on the brink for years.
I have to agree with those who said Sears. Too bad, as most of our major appliances are Kenmore Elite and have been very good. I’m not sure who makes the various ones, but our refrigerator is an LG with a Kenmore Elite nameplate. The LG air and water filters that it uses are about half the cost of the identical Kenmore filters BTW. Maybe that’s part of the reason they aren’t doing well. We also bought our Bosch dishwasher at Sears.
Whirlpool makes or use to make Kenmore and Maytag, so you should be ok getting parts if ur stuff ever breaks down.
i was a fan of the lonely Maytag Repairman Commercials
Olive Garden
Sears and JC Pennys…
Sneed’s Feed & Seed

There is currently a Marxist Democrat “Hunger Games” in progress. Get out your DVD and take notes!
(Cue patriotic anthem)
“Happy Hunger Games!” and “ May the odds be evah in your favor”…
Wait….Sears is still open!?
