While National Average Gas Prices Drop, Bay Area Prices Remain Higher

While the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline has decreased by 5 cents to $4.19 over the past week, Bay Area drivers are still paying $1.66 more a gallon than the rest of the country.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration, an increase in the total domestic gasoline stock combined with a drop in demand helped nudge prices downward, according to AAA. If demand continues to decline as gasoline stocks continue to build, the national average will likely continue to move lower. The U.S. said Thursday it will release 1 million barrels of oil per day from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

As of Sunday, the average price in California for a gallon of regular gas was $5.85.

In the San Francisco Bay Area, current average regular gas prices and month-over-month increases are as follows in these metro areas: Oakland, $5.83, up .85 cents; San Francisco and San Jose, $5.90, up about .85; San Rafael, $5.87, up .78; Santa Cruz, $5.80, up .90 cents; Santa Rosa, $5.86, up .78; Stockton, $5.69, up .89 (though currently ranking as the 10th least expensive region in California); and Vallejo, $5.75, up .80.

The cheapest gas in the state can be found in the Hanford area, $5.57 for a gallon of regular.

The global oil market remains highly volatile, so additional news that threatens supply could put upward pressure on oil prices, AAA said.

This is what happens when you have a captive market and use special gas blends mandated by morons in Sacramento.

@WC…..Not just the Sac morons, other states use the same gasoline…….https://www.epa.gov/gasoline-standards/reformulated-gasoline

They think we are naughty people and are punishing us 😄. California needs to be more practical and less ideological.

It is criminal actually. It goes along with the criminal Biden administration.

And the financially ignorant politicians cannot figure out the “mystery surcharge” for CA gasoline. Just hire competent auditors to get to the bottom of this and stop throwing up your hands. Next election, please replace the current morons in control in Sacramento, they have ruined this State enough. Lower taxes and less government is much better for all!

Competent auditors in California?

What about the EDD fraud that’s been going on for years?

California has no interest in fighting fraud – or even becoming financially literate or showing a willingness to become accountable. They just take all money and dump it into the general fund.

When in doubt, increase taxes and/or fees. I hold the idiot voters who elected these morons accountable for their financial failings. Democrats, that monkey is on YOUR back, given the democrats stranglehold on the states’ politics.

Know how a democrat is lying? They’re breathing.

Well it is April already and is anyone standing out to run against Newsom? Nope.

$3.89 at Kroger this morning. More than I have ever paid for gas since I escaped from Kleptofornica.

As long as I see multiple vehicles at chevron and shell we can go higher.
The gas tax has improved our roads, helps with summer and winter blends and has improved code 3 response times.
If not one viable candidate runs vs the great gavin, keep going higher.

No Duh.

Due to gas shortages, I say we open all carpool and express lanes immediately!

Thanks Governor Newscum.

Thanks President Buckethead.

@Exit 12A….Are you old enough to remember when we called people like them a “doofus”?

+1 … everybody bow and thank Newsum 🙁 remember he had the campaign promise that he would get under the gas price gouging by the oil companies and bring parity to the rest of the country ,,, did he? nooooooooo just another unfulfilled campaign promise… another you say? he promised the stop the high speed rail to no where project… did he? nooooooo don’t complain about the gas prices if you voted against the recall

I believe what Newsom meant when he said he would “get under the gas price gouging” is that he planned to “get a piece of the gas price gouging”. He’s like Bill Clinton, tricky with words.

I don’t think there’s any chance the price of gas will ever be significantly lower.

The people voted, they got what they voted for.

Now, no one’s vote matters any longer.

The people have no one to blame but themselves.
