Today’s question:

For several decades, Spring Break in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District and other local school districts was scheduled for the week after Easter. It’s changed throughout the past few years and is now usually the first week of April.

QUESTION: Do you like it when Spring Break is the week after Easter, or does this most recent schedule work better for you?

Talk about it!

It real doesn’t matter if it before / after or near a Holiday.
I just related school breaks with the Holidays from years ago.

Well heck…. They start their school year in August now and take a lot of days off during the year….

Back in the 60’s we started after Labor Day and were out the first or second week of June. “Spring Break” was called Easter Break and was usually the week before…..

Not sure school aged/families really care?????

Easter varies from late March to late April, so you could get some pretty wild swings in spring break if you schedule it around Easter each year.

Dawg April 1, 2022 - 1:17 PM - 1:17 PM

The only thing that matters to me is calling it Spring Break. It’s Easter Vacation. Why is there always someone wanting to upset American traditions and values?

Cyn April 1, 2022 - 3:07 PM - 3:07 PM

@Dawg
+1

Need to break the cultural/American traditions, and the moral compass of the country in order to remove the foundations of the country. See removal of statues memorializing the nation’s founders, or historically important figures. Once those foundations are weakened enough, a central power can then exert even more control over the citizenry, essentially eliminate individual liberty.

Jeff (the other one): Oh yes, you are absolutely correct. It is so orchestrated its almost comical, just look at left leaning Wikipedia’s stories on the founding fathers. The 4th paragraph on George Washington is about him and slavery. The 4th paragraph on Thomas Jefferson is about him and indian tribal removal. The 4th paragraph on Ben Franklin is about him and slavery. The fourth paragraph on John Adams mentions him and slavery. And so on.

Oh my! I completely agree with you!

I knew when my kids started calling Easter “spring break” that my wives and I were in trouble. We sent them to bible school in whyoming for three years which seemed to help.

Thunderdome April 1, 2022 - 1:42 PM - 1:42 PM

Spring Break is after Easter for some of the local Catholic School kids. Hope the weather is awesome.

Bill April 1, 2022 - 1:45 PM - 1:45 PM

You would think with all the school these kids missed in the last two years they should do away with spring break.

WC---Creeker April 1, 2022 - 1:53 PM - 1:53 PM

The Easter holiday should be banned. It’s was celebrated way back when the founders of this country did all kinds of bad things. Wake up people!

Dawg April 1, 2022 - 3:07 PM - 3:07 PM

WC—Creeker, There is no Easter holiday in the United States, it’s only recognized by those who wish to celebrate it. Easter is not a federal holiday.
The founders also celebrated birthdays, should birthdays be banned too? Of course not, that’s the beauty of living in a free country, everybody has the right to celebrate whatever they choose, and those that don’t like it, have the right to not participate.

Gman April 1, 2022 - 3:15 PM - 3:15 PM

With that sort of thinking i guess we should do away with Christmas, and 4th of July too.

NoMoreFreeRide April 1, 2022 - 2:07 PM - 2:07 PM

I don’t care my son is thankfully out of MDUSD.

JJ April 1, 2022 - 3:14 PM - 3:14 PM

Childless and hadn’t realized it wasn’t during Easter. Growing up ours was the week following Easter Sunday. My cousin’s was always the week leading up to. Always felt so bad for them as the thought of returning to school the next day was looming over them as we hunted for eggs.

CJRN April 1, 2022 - 5:40 PM - 5:40 PM

For me and my family, it would be nice it the break were right around Passover. But that won’t happen
🤷🏼‍♀️

Deb Shay April 1, 2022 - 6:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Earlier is better. Students are tired and need the time off. Later spring break is too close to the end of the school year.

Cellophane April 1, 2022 - 6:42 PM - 6:42 PM

Spring break should be the same time every year.

It should not be connected to Easter in any way.

Separation of church and state sort of stuff.

CAtoTX April 1, 2022 - 9:59 PM - 9:59 PM

1. Tell me where separation of church and state is mentioned in any federal document.
2. I don’t think it means what you think it means.

ClayDen April 1, 2022 - 9:41 PM - 9:41 PM

The CSU (at least SF State, Cal State East Bay and San Jose State) always have spring break the week of Cesar Chavez Day, which is a school holiday and the campuses are closed. However, Presidents Day is not a school holiday. Don’t get me started…………….

Well Folks April 2, 2022 - 11:51 AM - 11:51 AM

When I attended the Lafayette & Acalanes district spring break was the week before Easter. IMO I think the week before or week after is good
