Con Fire crews extinguished two vegetation fires on the north side of Highway 4 in Bay Point on Tuesday, spokesperson Steve Hill said. Authorities have also arrested a person suspected of setting the fires.
The fires were between Willow Pass Road and San Marco Boulevard, Hill said. One fire ate two and half acres and the other one acre. The fires were announced via social media at approximately 3:30 p.m.
“They were both intentionally set,” said Hill. Investigators were “out in force” to find a suspect, which they did with the help of witnesses, the department said. The suspect is now in custody on suspicion of starting the two fires.
The fire didn’t harm any structures and did not impede any traffic.
“It’s worth noting that this is very early for fire season,” said Hill. “Fire seasons have been coming earlier and earlier and this one is not going to disappoint us.”
Hill said now is the time for people to begin preparing for what he fears will be an intense fire season. Preparation includes weed abatement and creating defensible areas around property. It’s also important to have a “go bag” with important documents, cash, and other emergency items.
“Prepare for a very dangerous wild fire season,” he warned.
Thanks to Samantha Lee for the photo.
4/20 day started a little early this year!
Smoking grass was never my thing.
How many inevitable comments before someone blames “those nasty cigarette smokers throwing their butts out the window” comment?….I say 4 comments, not counting this, anyone up for a small wager?
Well, I mean, smokers are vile scum. So, there’s that.
In defense of the world council of daily tobacco smokers or WCDTS … riddle me this … 300 years ago, what was the lung cancer rate among heavy daily tobacco smokers … hmm ??? … Think before you respond
One person in custody.
Boy, I’d love to see this person prosecuted if he’s guilty.
But, he may have been attempting to warm himself up or cook himself a hot meal.
Our DA will probably let the person off to burn again.
Just one more reason to vote Becton out for good.
Keep those N95 masks ready. It’s going to be a smoky summer and fall.
Arson should be considered attempted murder or if someone dies. murder. Life in prison.
Same with drunk driving. Some things are just too awful to allow for repeat offenses.
Good photo….
Early fire season. Everything is drying up quick. Glad ConFire and CalFire got this one out quick.
Arsonist are starting earlier.
.
Who is going to pay the fine to BAAQMD for the excessive carbon emission?
.
Don’t you care about the environment?
…homeless? …going to be a bad fire season and starting sooner
The numbers from Cal Fire agree with you.

It’s those nasty cigarette smokers throwing their butts out the window. Sorry. I was busy and couldn’t get to this until now.
That’s OK you got here soon enough.
Your service is appreciated
OMG these fires are driven by systemic racism and affect climate change. The only answer is to invest in human infrastructure. Bring in the counselors to help the racially oppressed pyromaniac. And don’t alert ICE if he/she/its an illegal who has earned deportation with illegal deeds.
Thank god Governor Newsom has our backs, err, so to speak.
You may be tired of hearing this but unless we develop a US forest fighting air force with a fleet of 747s the state is going to keep on burning. You can’t fight fires like they are doing when fires go on for days and weeks and travel many miles.
I think Donald Trump started that fire … and Larry Elder was his get-away driver.
That is just what the leftist media would love to say.
Get over the jabs at Trump and work on getting demented led by the nose Biden out.
