BART has suspended its Red Line service between Richmond and MacArthur Stations “for a few days” due to power issues experienced in the section, a spokesperson for BART said on Tuesday evening.
Crews will be working “continuously” to mitigate the issue and restore service, the transit agency said.
Passengers attempting to get from Richmond to MacArthur Stations should use the Orange Line. Riders between Richmond and Ashby Stations can expect a train every 15 minutes in both directions on weekdays, BART said.
On weekends, trains will come every 30 minutes in both directions.
BART will be running a shuttle between SFO and Millbrae Stations in the meantime. (For more detailed alternate route information, go to bart.gov.)
The problem stems from a “power traction cable” break between the El Cerrito Plaza and Ashby Stations that occurred on March 6, BART said. Currently, the “cables are unable to feed enough electricity to run additional trains at this time,” the transit agency said.
Then on March 7, a substation failure occurred on the same section which led to a power loss in the morning between El Cerrito Del Norte and North Berkeley Stations.
“Staff who have responded to this issue have concluded that the cable fault is the main culprit of the service impact,” a spokesperson for BART said.
BART says it is exploring running shorter trains (around five cars per train) at much higher frequencies to alleviate the service impact between Richmond and MacArthur Stations.
More garbage from overpaid BART.
How’s that oil filled underground cable replacement project going ? ?
maybe they should get another multi billion grant from the government, Management needs more money to fuel their company cars
This can’t be, electrical problems are unheard of. If BART ran on gas there would be no breakdown.
Russian interference, or BART ineptitude?
BART
Expensive and unreliable.
I wonder how many additional tons of CO2 are being emitted due to an inoperative line.
Shouldn’t BART be penalized and /or fined for contributing to more global warming?
Between COVID and breakdowns, I think it’s safe to say the argument that BART should even exist is spurious.
A few days?
That’s a major malfunction.
Another failure.
Bart has one job, keep the trains running.
There is no end to the failures at Bart.
Two years of COVID, BART never had problems. People start to go back to work and all the old issues come back. Did BART not do any maintenance over the last two years? Or is this a setup for another Bond measure?
It’s turning out that BART is just another version of the HSR (ie, train to nowhere).
Screw BART. Screw the politicians. Screw the MDUSD.
