California drivers continue to face sticker shock at the gas pump as they are paying the highest average price per gallon in the nation.

Motorists are paying on average 58 cents more for a gallon of regular gas than they did three weeks ago, as the statewide average price reached a national high of $5.28 Sunday in response to rising crude prices.

That is $1.28 higher per gallon than the national average.

Bay Area drivers are paying from an average of $5.28 a gallon in Santa Cruz County, according to AAA, to $5.46 a gallon in Napa County.

The state average was $4.68 in early February and $3.47 a year ago. The national average one year ago was $2.50.

Average prices for regular gasoline per gallon in other regional counties:

  • $5.42, San Francisco
  • $5.43, Sonoma
  • $5.40, San Mateo
  • $5.45, Marin
  • $5.23, San Benito
  • $5.26, Monterey
  • $5.33, Santa Clara
  • $5.35, Alameda
  • $5.32, Contra Costa
  • $5.32, Solano

The cheapest gas in the Claycord area can be found at the ARCO station on Monument Blvd. at Detroit Ave. where gas is $4.53 a gallon, and the most expensive is $5.89 a gallon at the Chevron on Buskirk in Pleasant Hill, according to the website OaklandGasPrices.com.

Costco gas prices are usually about the same as the Arco at monument & detroit, which is the cheapest non-costco fuel when it’s open. if you have a costco shop card you don’t have to be a cosrco member.

Bart was practically empty today & the bike trails don’t have much traffic either.

BART is dangerous and also a health hazard. They need to make to fix those issues before people like myself will ever ride again.

I’m not sure how many people usually commute by bicycles…….

The Ukrainian war or Covid has nothing to do with our gas prices. This is strictly on Sleepy Joe, the bumbler.

There once was a man, who gave America energy independence, but he made mean tweets, so they sent him away.

“Serves you right to suffer” — J.Geils

I think that CA gas prices are primarily due to actions of CA voters.

Chevron, BP and Shell profits are at their highest level in over 7 years.

Oil companies are using any excuse they can to gouge us. Same as it ever was.

This is definitely the voters getting what they wanted.

Some of you are obviously democrats and Biden can lead you down the primrose path. My party right or wrong.

U.S. crude oil futures hit $130.50 per barrel overnight..this is supply and demand..What Is the Law of Supply and Demand?

“The law of supply and demand is a theory that explains the interaction between the sellers of a resource and the buyers for that resource. The theory defines the relationship between the price of a given good or product and the willingness of people to either buy or sell it.”

Idaho has no refining capacity and no pipelines. All gasoline is trucked in. Costco gas in Boise is $3.86 (85 octane) compared to $4.95 (87 octane) at Costco Concord. Happy to blame Biden where appropriate but only a hopeless partisan would blame Biden for everything.

SamE The gas companies are not the cause of gas price differences between California and Idaho. Democrats in California can eat that one. I can pretty much blame Joe for every thing screwed up without bating an eye.

Joe does not own any oil companies. But oil companies are making record profits. Trump would take credit for the oil profits until his people told him that was a bad thing.

@doh – you state that “Trump would take credit…”

You made the claim – now PROVE it.

If not, then you’re just another TDS victim (ie, trump hater) and have no substance to support your pathetic claim.

The buck stops with Biden. He has demonstrated conclusively that he’s incapable of handling ANY situation placed in front of him without f***ing it up. And his sidekick (Harris the giggling ho) is no better.

I agree with you Glen but I’m going to leave Doh alone…. when I respond to his idiotic remarks, I feel like a bully… like one of the kids on their bikes chasing Forrest Gump or the kid that throws a water balloon through the open window on the short bus. I get guilt.

Maybe I’m beating my head against the wall – but I feel compelled to educate the morons (I mean, the democrats). Maybe I’m feeling sorry for them in that they never had an education.

Technology, economics, law, statistics, responsibility, accountability, critical thinking, and a host of other characteristics all seem to be foreign concepts to them.

So many of you have drank Uncle Joe’s kool-aid. So is it the supply chain, covid or Putin causing high oil and gas prices? JOE BIDEN IS THE WINNER! His executive orders and his policies.

Not just at the pump but at the house too.

Think grocery store prices are high now, as price of diesel increases higher transportation cost will be passed on to consumers.
Higher gas prices means more electric vehicle sales, advancing DEM’s ‘green’ agenda.

Would not be surprised if gas prices hit $6.00, $7.00 or even $8.00 per gallon.

‘U.S. crude oil briefly tops $130 a barrel, a 13-year high on possible Western ban of Russian oil’ …

“West Texas Intermediate crude futures, the U.S. oil benchmark, traded 7.34% higher to $124.17 per barrel. At one point the price rose to $130.50 Sunday evening, its highest since July 2008, before retreating.

The international benchmark, Brent crude, spiked 8.54% higher to $128.20. Brent hit a high of $139.13 at one point overnight, also its highest since July 2008.”

biden administration and a few other countries, over a three month period, may be able to add some oil to world market, temporarily lowering pump prices slightly. So far 30 million barrels will be pumped out of US Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Maximum draw possible per day is 4.4 million barrels and it takes 13 days to reach consumers.

USA uses roughly 20 million barrels per day.
Beginning of March SPR held 580 million barrels or less than a months supply at current consumption rate.

Hows that sting of voting with hate vs. brain doing ya?

Most expensive isn’t in pleasant hill. Its $6 at the Shell on Clayton and Ignacio.

Here is what people have no idea is coming. Fertilizers have gone up almost 40%. Your food bill this Summer will increase 35%. A barrel of oil is heading to $175. Get use to $7 a gallon gas. Inflation is already at double digits. Feds should have acted on raising interest rates last September to curb inflation. We are off to the races.

Fertilizer may be scarce. Much of it comes from Russia. Let’s just hope that doesn’t result in food becoming scarce. This isn’t a battle we need to be a part of. Biden was knee deep in this over ten years ago. Be careful, we just may not be the good guys here.
Why aren’t we protecting our southern border? We have no idea who’s crossing it.

Yep. I know a cattle broker. He mentioned fuel increases which affect fertilizer (because it requires a lot of energy to produce it) and transportation, to move cattle, produce, etc… Who knows, we might end up with Bernie’s Bread Lines after all!

Boy, I hate it when I’m right

I bought a $900 VERY COOL electric motor scooter here in Saigon … has awesome engineering and about 30km range … pretty fast too … with a $280 engine/battery upgrade … I can double the range to 60km and speed to about 40km per hour … perfect for buzzing through traffic in a great city such as Saigon … and what’s more … it folds up and can go on subway, bus, taxi or air travel. Weighs about 40kg … Added bonus is this folding feature because with all the jingle saved in fuel costs, I can drive to the pub, get hammered and toss it into the taxi trunk … no muss-no fuss! Enjoy getting ripped at the Kalifornia pumps folks … and BTW … price in USA is double what it goes for here in Vietnam. #Suckers #Newscum #leadershipmalpractice #overpricedKalifornia #votethemout #makecaliforniagreatagain

Do you mean ‘Ho Chi Minh’ city? There is no Saigon.

It very conveniently folds up when you hit the bus or taxi too.

Politically correct Commies changed the name…. they do that alot.

I love electric personal vehicles, but there are about 1000 reasons I can’t replace my car. I have like 2 Ebikes and 2 Escooters and 1 very whack Eskateboard.

1. Horrible state of California roads and lack of separated or maintained bike lanes. If you don’t hit a pothole and die, you will be struck by a car and die.

2. Weather. Whether it’s rain or merciless 100 degree sun, you’ll be begging for an air conditioned car cabin.

3. I had an accident at 5mph due to some horrible pavement and some poor judgement, and my shoulder is STILL aching a month later. Yeah the per-hour fatalities are lower on a bike but I think your likelihood of serious debilitating injury must be higher, and those studies were done in England where they have good bike infrastructure. When I see wet leafs in my car, I don’t have to panic.

4. Poor build quality and longevity. Most Ebikes/Escooters are simply not built to really last. My entire extended family puts 200k to 350k miles on Toyota products before retiring them, I don’t think I’ll see see an equivalent kind of return on investment with some Ebike/Escooter. Part supply and support are often nonexistant.

5. Mystery Asian lithium batteries are a real and serious risk. They don’t burn up so much as they spectacularly explode in a conflagration of roaring flame and shooting sparks. When I fill up my Toyota I don’t worry about it burning my entire house down.

My husband and I spent a month in Vietnam in 2006 I believe. We really enjoy our experience. I would never get on an ebike, eskateboard, or escooter because of the crazy traffic. Good luck in the rainy season when you won’t see the pothole that is filled with water or the vehicles that suddenly cut you off or stop in front of you. Saw many tourists limping around on crutches and road rash due to moped accidents.. Some will save a buck to spend 25, but that’s your choice. I wish you well.

The real winner is the credit card companies. They get a percentage on both sides. The higher the volume in consumption, higher the profits. Unfortunately once prices increase, they never seem to go back to before. Bet Tesla will have a great year!

Ditto to Common Sensor. Dam spellchecker won’t let me write out in 1 word.

The voters who let hate and rhe media blind the. In rhe last election caused this with the radicals.

Force Biden to reinstate oil drilling here now. How stupid can people be to think wind, water and sun can produce enought power. Not to mention all those who are allowed into US who drawn resources without contributing to economy..

Thanks Joe Biden!

All on Biden starting his first day in office with executive orders. I told Dems in my family did not want to hear a word from them when gas prices skyrocket. Elections have consequences, hope Dems enjoy the ride. Biden mob family should be investigated for collusion with Russia and China. How much stock do Biden’s, Pelosi, Feinstein, own in Russian oil?

Climate Change? Quit importing dirty foreign oil. U.S. companies have superior technology to process oil to gas. Releasing oil from the strategic reserve does absolutely nothing for oil prices. Drill baby drill!

Well said Time to Go.

Talkin’ to a Democrat is like talking to a brick wall. ’bout the same IQ too.

Democrats are stupid. I use my sister as an example. She’s still claims that gas prices have gone up because of covid being over, then the summer blend, then the winter blend, and now the summer blend again. This is what the Democrats have been telling her. She does admit now it’s because of the war, but of course it’s Trump’s fault because he supposedly withheld weapons for a month period 3 years ago. She knows nothing about Biden stopping military assistance to Ukraine last year. President Zelinsky of Ukrain has been mentioning that. Of course the national news will not report that.

Ya think the State of California could do it’s part and suspend the gas tax during this meltdown? Na, I didn’t either.

You can blame Biden for a majority of the national increase in gasoline and other fuel increases. Few people are talking about natural gas and fuel oil, both of which are used to heat homes, but those prices skyrocketed a while back with little fanfare.

The price difference for gas between California and the rest of the nation can be blamed on Gavin and the Democrat super-majority controlling the state. And you can blame THAT on California voters, who appear unable to add 2+2 together and get 4.

agree chuckie!
It’s all bordering on terrorism.
Gavin should be locked up with his nip and tuck botoxed creepy old Aunt,
He ruined San Francisco and now the whole State,

One begs the question, who is stupid enough to shut down American energy independence?

You have to ask that question as who would be stupid enough to shutdown USA energy independence??

Where have you been?

I think he is a traitor. Everything he does is wrong. That can’t be an accident.

Irony aside, I looked up the phrase “begs the question” and found it unhelpful. So, lets just say, I agree with you Concord74. Unless I misunderstand your intent.

Brandon Bungled This!

Let no crisis go unexploited for your financial benefit.

With stocks getting pummeled, it’s time to shop for good, non-petroleum related companies with low prices.

Would this be a bad time for a casual reminder that Biden’s VERY FIRST acts as PUPPET were reversing Trump’s sanctions against Russia and giving the green light to Putin on Nord Stream 2?
Now planet Earth is forced to deal with his mess.

Gas prices are shooting up faster than Biden’s vote count at 2:00 am.
There should be separate gas pumps, one at $10.00 for Biden voters and one at $2.00 for Trump voters.
Why should we pay for their stupidity?

Great idea, especially since the Democrats wanted to not just hit your wallet but actually kill you if you don’t agree with them as the democrat governor of Colorado signed an executive order encouraging hospitals to refuse admission to emergency rooms if you are unvaxxed.

SO TRUE

This has nothing to do with Biden! If we had doubled down on clean energy we would be far less dependent on what oil prices do. It’s our own fault. Last President sent us backwards and this one can’t get the votes to move us forward. Electric car owners are patting themselves on the back about now.

@Km
What world are you living in? The price at the pump has EVERYTHING to do with that ding-dong from Delaware. But just keep telling yourself it’s all Trump’s fault if that’s what it takes to get you through the day.

KM,
In this fantasy world of yours, where will all this electricity come from, in the state that can’t even keep the lights turned on?

Have fun charging your car during the rolling blackouts.

KM
It’s pretty obvious that you don’t pay the electric bill.
10% increase coming soon from PG&E plus you pay a premium if you use between 4 and 9pm.
I also guess you have the 30k for a Prius and another 30k for solar?
Also, for some strange reason everyone who does have solar is still connected to PG&E. I wonder why?

Km & missy……have you learned nothing from that hoax played on you by obama and his Solyndra scam! Is cost us billions and we got absolutely NOTHING! But he has a new mansion estate.

Km

Oh my goodness that is absolutely absurd…Unbelievable really.

And they vote!

Obviously, km knows NOTHING about:

1. The current state of the electrical grid
2. Available/existing generation
3. Lead time for generation components to be designed, developed, sold and installed – and also transmission and distribution interconnections
4. Permitting requirements and environmental studies required by a whole host of federal, state and local bureaucracies
5. Related to #3 – studies that demonstrate that additional small (distributed generation) will not adversely affect the stability of the grid
6. Related to #5 – ensuring that removal of existing large generation will not affect the grid stability, yet still meet the load demand.
7. The number of qualified people to design, develop, install and operate the new systems.
8. Lastly, there is a finite amount of money to accomplish all of the above. Economics plays a large part in this..

Sure, technology is improving – but nobody can snap their fingers and magically transform the grid into a low/no fossil fuel generation-supplies grid. It’ll take years if not decades to get there – if the politicians keep their fingers out of it. Nearly all of them have ZERO technical knowledge of how to get their in a timely manner. Unfortunately, they want it all – and want it now. It cannot happen. Period. Only millennial snowflakes think that it can happen – and they have demonstrated that they have zero real world experience.

Until you learn something about the real world (including technology), you’re just flapping your gums. Come back when you’ve demonstrated your knowledge about the real world.

@KM, Agreed.
@Glen, yes, investment into interconnection, transmission lines, and reactive power (grid stability) is required. It is amazing how privatizing the energy sector has lead to under-maintenance and under-investment in the overall grid. Free market capitalism fails with the electric grid because the electric utility can’t profit off the positive externalities of having a robust energy infrastructure – they only profit from electricity they sell. As you said, it is economics, and economics would indicate a robust public investment into proper infrastructure would benefit the overall economy.

Wonder what would happen if no one bought gas for one day

More people would need to buy gas tomorrow.

@kim, This has everything to do with Biden. We are also not ready for everyone to have electric cars. Not now or in the future. Have you looked at your electric bill? Come on man.

There are also lots of cringy pictures on the internet of child slave labor digging with hand tools in 3rd world counties to get the scarce metals for rechargeable batteries. Like the cigarette packaging warnings of today, maybe when Trump was in office he could have done an executive order requiring all electric cars to have a picture of a slave kid printed on the side of the car.

How about some commercials showing these kids with sad music playing…. And also commercials for birds that are killed by windmills and solar farms, with the sad music too. No “ DAWN” soap to rescue them. Let’s also show the landfills and how these batteries and windmill and solar parts aren’t biodegradable, but super TOXIC.

Where are the true “green” people and animal rights people? I truly want to know.

Some people, mostly folks living outside Vietnam are hung up about the Saigon /Ho Chi Minh City name game … but in the four years living here I have found majority of Vietnamese living here could care less about using Saigon and or HCMC interchangeably … but in any written formal or business scenario, it’s pretty much always HCMC, or TP.HCM … Most non-Viets here use Saigon in everyday convo or casually … I have never seen anyone here in VN mention this issue.

California has about $1.20 in taxes and fees applied per gallon. That adds a lot to the cost

Newsom wouldn’t give California citizens a tax break if he was on fire.

More likely, he would go to the Feds for more free money, use most of it on pet projects (sex changes for felons etc.) and throw the remainder to us. Then raise taxes again in excess of that for next year. He’s a double-dipper doubling down with our money.

… I hear ya man … but my E-bike is solid AF … built for off road too … you don’t know poor road conditions until you’ve riden in Vietnam … really rough, and I’ve load-tested my hog to the max … my E-bike is built to take a lickin’ and keep on tickin’ … people here don’t mind driving in heavy rain … they just casually don their rain gear and keep on truckin’ … They will even drive in flooded areas … seen bikes plowing through knee-high water … wow!!!

America is more than capable of sustaining its own fuel supplies.

America doesn’t need foreign oil.

Only the politicians need it.

America needs to be strong and self-sufficient.

America needs an administration change toot sweet. There is not a single decent person in the entire Biden camp, dump them all.
