Offensive driving

Anonymous February 23, 2022 - 12:11 PM - 12:11 PM

Drive drunk.

When u flick your lights at me u get the one finger salute!

PO'd February 23, 2022 - 12:20 PM - 12:20 PM

Shooting at other cars because of road rage. The rest of the bad behavior is expected, so always pay attention, so it doesn’t involve you!

Roz February 23, 2022 - 12:21 PM - 12:21 PM

Just in General, not following the Rules of the Road.
Those people are the accidents just waiting to happen.

Tod February 23, 2022 - 12:21 PM - 12:21 PM

Not letting you merge into a new lane, and actually accelerate to prevent it. Civility on the road is long dead. And the morons who use the freeways as a racetrack weaving in and out of lanes at high speed.

Chuq February 23, 2022 - 1:33 PM - 1:33 PM

The worst! I don’t know where these people are trying to get to but it’s surely not worth the risk.

Hanne Jeppesen February 23, 2022 - 8:05 PM - 8:05 PM

Totally agree with you, especially about merging, either people don’t like to let you in, or they don’t pay attention drive like they are the only cars on the road.

Susanne February 23, 2022 - 10:12 PM - 10:12 PM

What Tod said. 100% agree.

BOOYAH! February 23, 2022 - 12:21 PM - 12:21 PM

Shoot at me – I HATE that!

miguel February 23, 2022 - 12:35 PM - 12:35 PM

Phones. I don’t care if you’re on a call, texting, taking selfies, or doing a Tik Tok routine. Put your phone away and watch the road.

jprcards February 23, 2022 - 3:23 PM - 3:23 PM

AGREED!

Dawg February 23, 2022 - 12:35 PM - 12:35 PM

Challenging me to a race. It’s usually Porsche’s and Mustangs that think they are all bad. I have a nice old classic Corvette, and over the years I’ve invested a lot of money in it. It produces 459 HP and will do 0-60 in 3 seconds. I’m not about to risk destroying a car that I’ve put so much money into, racing some jerk, when I know I will leave him in my dust.
Mustangs frequently want to race from a red light, and Porsche’s often pull up beside me on the freeway. I just cruise along, and let them make a fool of themselves. I know how fast my car is, and I don’t feel the need to show off and prove it to anybody.

nytemuvr February 23, 2022 - 2:56 PM - 2:56 PM

@Dawg…I’m sure your Corvette is reasonably fast but the only way you get to 60 mph in 3 seconds is if you have a JATO rocket mounted on the back….just sayin’

Dawg February 23, 2022 - 5:04 PM - 5:04 PM

I rounded it off a little, it was clocked at 3.4 seconds. Without going through all the modifications and specs, it’s a 1972 Corvette with a 2009 Corvette engine.

Dr Jellyfinger February 23, 2022 - 7:09 PM - 7:09 PM

My car is 54 years old, everything is rebuilt, replaced or repainted and fast as hell but if you ever see me doing 100 mph it will be on a empty road between some cornfields…. not on a crowded highway!
I won’t tell you what I drive but when it was new, they were marketed as “The Corvette Killer” (I think that was a bit presumptuous tho).

Oh…. and people who don’t have the courtesy to use turn signals piss me off.

Hanne Jeppesen February 23, 2022 - 8:13 PM - 8:13 PM

Dawg, l have very fond memories of corvettes, had a boyfriend in 1968, when l was an au pair in Westport, Ct who had a Corvette Stingray think it was a 65 or 63, dark green with a canvas top. Loved the car and the boyfriend. Driving in it with the top down kept thinking, this is why l left Denmark for the US.

jjshawk February 23, 2022 - 8:23 PM - 8:23 PM

I hate those challenges, those drivers are tool bags. There’s nothing in it for me to street race. I have to fix, out of my own pocket, everything that wears and tears, or pay for the tickets. My cars are for my personal pleasure only. Those who have something to prove, can use their on money and resources to show the rest of us, “how it’s done”.

Original G February 23, 2022 - 12:36 PM - 12:36 PM

Those who tailgate, constantly change lanes without turn signals and drive aggressively. Being tailgated means increasing distance to car ahead due to more looking in mirrors at idiot behind and dropping a little below posted speed limit to (frustrate) encourage them to pass.

Definitely let speeders pass, let them plow road ahead, may see them minutes later on side of road talking to a member of Law Enforcement!!!

After MANY decades of driving now know why us old farts drive at speed limit, it’s to frustrate the !^#$ out of young punks that don’t care about anyone but themselves. Those who acquired their limited driving abilities playing video games and have no clue of inertia, reaction time, distance traveled per second or stopping distance.

At 35mph a vehicle travels 51.333 feet per second.
At 35mph including reaction time, takes 136 feet to stop.

Nothimg. People do stupid thimgs all the time. I dont let their behaviors bother me.
It rolls off my back like a duck

The Professor February 23, 2022 - 3:15 PM - 3:15 PM

Ducks roll off your back?

Dr Jellyfinger February 23, 2022 - 7:33 PM - 7:33 PM

LOL!

Sick of it February 23, 2022 - 12:47 PM - 12:47 PM

I am completely fed up with red light runners and those who don’t stop at stop signs. It’s getting to the point that you see almost on a daily basis people that dont even slow down at residential stop signs. It puts everyone in danger and actually slows down traffic as people that actually care stop and wait till entering a intersection in fear of being hit by one of these idiots

Hanne Jeppesen February 23, 2022 - 10:13 PM - 10:13 PM

Yes, Red light runners are careless, inconsiderate and a danger to others as well as themselves. Just don’t know what the are thinking. I see them often enough, that even though l have a green light l proceed very carefully.

Old-school guy February 23, 2022 - 12:47 PM - 12:47 PM

Slow drivers in the fast lane. There’s always a back up behind them. They’re like the hairball in the drain.

Chicken Little February 23, 2022 - 12:52 PM - 12:52 PM

Tailgating. Especially when I’m in the right lane, doing at least the speed limit, and the other lanes are perfectly clear, so they could just go around.

The Fearless Spectator February 23, 2022 - 12:58 PM - 12:58 PM

Those that continue to drive along in mindless contentment while emergency vehicles with lights and sirens blaring are right behind.

Exit 12A February 23, 2022 - 1:01 PM - 1:01 PM

.
#1. Tailgaters.. If I cannot see your front tires in my rear view mirror, you’re too damn close. BACK OFF!
.
#2. Line cutters! Do you cut in front of people at the store? No. STOP IT.

#3. Drivers who are slow and don’t merge at flowing speed.
ENGAGE YOUR TURN SIGNAL, ACCELERATE, AND “ZIPPER” IN!!!

Justifiable languor February 23, 2022 - 1:05 PM - 1:05 PM

You know that space between my front bumper and the car in front of me? That is not a reserved spot for you.

theunforgiven February 23, 2022 - 1:06 PM - 1:06 PM

When the lane is closed up ahead and you have to merge over and some jackass in his big truck thinks its funny to speed up as soon as they see you want over when you put your turn signal on they floor it up to you and stay on your side matching your speed so you cant get over then when you do wants to get pissed off and act like you cut them off.

Obviously someone hates their life if this is how they get their kicks and they have nothing better to do for a thrill I guess. Sad and pathetic.

Jimmy February 23, 2022 - 1:07 PM - 1:07 PM

Other drivers keep my insurance high because of crazy driving.
I can’t believe hearing on the radio that a car is overturned on hwy 24 @ Pleasant Hill Rd. Now what can make that happen? Speeding? Cutting across three lanes to exit?
Weaving in and out?
How short sighted and stupid so many human beings are.
We are on our way to being like India or Indonesia. Check out the You Tube videos. Very sad direction.

Anon February 23, 2022 - 1:21 PM - 1:21 PM

People who are too Scared to get up to speed while getting onto a freeway & these are vehicles which are capable. I’m not slamming on my brakes to let you in if I’m unable to move over……you are supposed to merge.

Let’s add Blinding High beams…..people who fail to put on low beams, and NO…..Your 25 year old vehicle DID NOT come with LED headlamps.
Good luck with all of your eye damage, because these LED lights are putting out a wavelength that is undetectable to eyes, but causes damage none the less.

Just_My_Two_Cents February 23, 2022 - 1:21 PM - 1:21 PM

1. People that go slow and are oblivious in the fast/passing lane.
2.`Cheaters – They know the lane is ending but try to get in front of the other cars. Also, going up the soft shoulder to get ahead.
3. People weaving in and out of traffic.

Chato’s Land February 23, 2022 - 1:24 PM - 1:24 PM

Absolutely nothing! I just let them pass at a ridiculous speed or careless driving and get out of the way. I have trained hundreds of professional drivers in my career and found this is the hardest skill to learn.

Sandy G February 23, 2022 - 1:30 PM - 1:30 PM

Not all Prius drivers drive slow. My driving habits didn’t change, just because I bought a Prius. I am very considerate. I will gladly back off so you can merge into the lane I’m in. There is no need to cut me off, just because your ego won’t let you drive behind the Prius.

idiots everywhere February 23, 2022 - 2:02 PM - 2:02 PM

Right turn on red without stopping, “hey I’m walking here”.
Overly tinted windows.
Weavers.
Loud Exhaust or Thumping Stereo
Breaking for no reason on freeway.

Randy February 23, 2022 - 2:18 PM - 2:18 PM

Drivers that go too slow – please just go at least the speed limit! … idiots not using their turn signal… you can get a ticket for it but LE doesn’t do much about it.. they could fill their “quota” in a day and provide cities with much needed revenue

DB February 23, 2022 - 2:21 PM - 2:21 PM

I’ve been noticing more and more people cutting over multiple lanes and/or an entire center shoulder (if that’s what you’d call it) at junctions on the freeway, i.e. the 680 N/S junction on 24 East. It used to be a rare occurrence, now it’s almost every day. I don’t know if it’s Uber/Lyft drivers unfamiliar with the area, or people just not paying attention until the last second, but it’s SO dangerous and infuriating to see.

Paul February 23, 2022 - 2:32 PM - 2:32 PM

I got so use to many bad driving actions that have been said so the actions don’t really bother me anymore. On the contrary, I find these actions amusing; and my favorite one is when a driver speed up while I maintain the speed limit and I catch up him/her at the next traffic light.

Bad Nombre February 23, 2022 - 2:37 PM - 2:37 PM

Drive.

I mean, if they weren’t driving, I’d have the road all to myself!

paranoid pablito February 23, 2022 - 3:03 PM - 3:03 PM

I can’t believe no one has mentioned this….People who are looking at their phone when the light turns green, thereby wasting the green light for drivers behind them. 100% of the time I toot my horn, it’s at these monsters.

Bob February 23, 2022 - 3:12 PM - 3:12 PM

1. Folks who practically stop in the right lane before making their right turn.

2. People blocking straight lanes by stacking up the turn lane at red lights.

Cowellian February 23, 2022 - 3:31 PM - 3:31 PM

If there is a stop sign or red light, folks are required to come to a complete stop before turning red.

Cowellian February 23, 2022 - 3:32 PM - 3:32 PM

^…before turning right.

sigh

Bob February 23, 2022 - 6:18 PM - 6:18 PM

No light or sign

jprcards February 23, 2022 - 3:32 PM - 3:32 PM

No doubt for me it is people on their cellphones….That is a VERY dangerous habit and it is dangerous for all of us, even those of us that are not using the phone in any way while we drive. Hands free is certainly better but I still see many drivers talking and it sure doesn’t appear that they are paying full attention to the road.

Here’s the thing though, everybody honestly believes and will tell you that THEY ARE paying attention while they use the phone and drive……but they’re not.

Strad February 23, 2022 - 3:39 PM - 3:39 PM

Cars making lane change in front of me and stopping without signaling down town Concord. Think they were doing it on purpose to cause an accident and collect insurance money. Luckily I had put new brakes and tires on my car and stopped in time. I’m in the process of putting a dash cam to record these type of incidents.

Tod February 23, 2022 - 4:00 PM - 4:00 PM

The other thing? Dark tinted windows. A sure sign of thugs from Oakland, Pittsburg, Antioch, or Richmond. What do you have to hide? Oh, your faces…, got it.

ClayDen February 23, 2022 - 4:06 PM - 4:06 PM

The one thing that bothers me the most is that bad drivers drive. If all of the bad drivers got off of the road, there would never be any traffic. The same is true for distracted and impaired drivers.

Lane discipline and turn signal usage seem to be foreign concepts to most drivers. It is very aggravating when I’m at an intersection with my left turn signal on and the car approaching me doesn’t have their signal on, so I wait for them to go straight and; sometimes they get the idea and put their left turn signal on as they are starting to turn. However, since turn signal usage appears to be optional, I usually figure that if ther turn signal is on, it is by accident.

The other thing I hate is all of the SUVs and trucks. For some people an SUV or a truck is a rational choice; for most, a sedan, station wagon or a minivan is a more rational choice. Also, pedestrian fatality rates have been rising, as being hit by an SUV or truck more freqently results in a severe injury or fatality than the same impact from a sedan or minivan.

Cellophane February 23, 2022 - 4:41 PM - 4:41 PM

There are a lot of things that bother me about bad drivers.

Picking only one…

Those drivers who decide they are the only people on the road.

jaguarcat February 23, 2022 - 4:41 PM - 4:41 PM

sitting behind someone else on a red light waiting for it to turn green all the while the person in front of me isn’t paying any attention and is playing with their phone.

Blueberry February 23, 2022 - 4:56 PM - 4:56 PM

People who weave into the lane to their right before they turn left or make a U-turn. I’ve come so close to hitting cars on their passenger side as I’m going past them. Scares me, scares them when I lay on the horn.

nytemuvr February 23, 2022 - 5:02 PM - 5:02 PM

Here’s James Dean giving his opinion on this subject……https://youtu.be/vz3W87uWcx8

PESFG February 23, 2022 - 5:04 PM - 5:04 PM

These is what I noticed people disregard.
Drivers HAVE NO CLUE about properly positioning their side mirrors!
Drivers wrongly believe that having the blinkers on gives them the right to merge into a lane but it doesn’t. Drivers can’t suddenly stop or slow down to allow someone in, especially on the freeway or if they are being tailgated. Getting into a lane, even though someone has their blinkers on, without having enough room to merge can cause an accident.
Drivers HAVE NO CLUE what Yield signs mean.
Drivers open or leave their left side door(s) to traffic.
Drivers who have their traffic lane blocked or partially blocked decide to disregard safety by suddenly taking over the open lane even if it means driving the opposite side of the road.
SUV and truck drivers disregard the safety of other drivers.
Drivers, bicyclists, motorcyclists, and pedestrians, all feel as if they own the road so we need more traffic enforcement but we no longer live in a society where laws have meaning.
Remember that not everyone has the same driving proficiency.
I wish we could have the “Traffic Jammin” section back to encourage others to be better drivers. DBMPLM.

Aunt Barbara February 23, 2022 - 5:15 PM - 5:15 PM

when something is blocking your lane, you are trying to change lanes and they come from behind way too fast to pass you on the right..

Winnie The Pooh February 23, 2022 - 5:21 PM - 5:21 PM

Driving through residential neighborhoods like the streets are a freakin race track

Cyn February 23, 2022 - 7:27 PM - 7:27 PM

@Winnie The Pooh
+1

Bill February 23, 2022 - 5:28 PM - 5:28 PM

Where are the local police that use to pull these speeding, red light runners, tailgaters, high beam drivers and just idiot drivers over?

Concerned Citizen February 23, 2022 - 9:46 PM - 9:46 PM

Covid scared them at first and then they got defunded along with the police that respond to every other call.

Cautiously Informed February 24, 2022 - 7:37 AM - 7:37 AM

Bill, That is great question. I suspect that our local police agencies are tied up. They are busy chasing, arresting and re-arresting(and re re-arresting) the massive amount of career criminals running wild in our communities, thanks to the California Democrat government and our feckless DA.

Danged ineffectual February 23, 2022 - 5:33 PM - 5:33 PM

When you trying to get in a left turn lane, but can’t only because the people ahead of you have left a full car’s space between them and another car. Then you have to wait through till the next cycle on the lights.

Same stuff, but in the drive-thrubline. Like, pull up!

Cyn February 23, 2022 - 7:31 PM - 7:31 PM

@Danged
DING, DING, DING, AND BINGO!!!
(Sorry, Well Folks….I stole your line from yesterday).

Jojo The Circus Clown February 23, 2022 - 6:01 PM - 6:01 PM

Life in the fast lane … if you come to Vietnam, you will know about “bad drivers” … zero traffic laws here … it’s like the wild west … but it is exciting too … never boring … gets the heart pumping!

Exit 12A February 23, 2022 - 7:11 PM - 7:11 PM

.
People there don’t expect others to follow traffic regulations so everyone drives hyper-defensively so it all works out.
.
In the US, we have adopted social rules (laws) that everyone is supposed to observe. Then when one driver doesn’t, it all goes to hell.
.

Jojo The Circus Clown February 25, 2022 - 2:38 AM - 2:38 AM

Yes, it does work for most of the folks, but I have seen 6 pretty gnarly motorbike wrecks in just the few years living in Saigon. The highways are super dangerous due to the large trucks and buses at high speed … I think there are 2000 + monthly traffic fatalities in VN. But majority of drivers are highly skilled … many just learn as they go … in my neighborhood, rich kids speed up and down the main drag on rice rockets … crazy young punks thinking they are invincible … well, can’t say I wasn’t of the same mindset in my youth.

SmileWC February 23, 2022 - 6:59 PM - 6:59 PM

Changing lanes by crossing the solid line behind you and then speeding up so they cut you off from changing lanes when it becomes the broken line.

BWIZZLE February 23, 2022 - 7:29 PM - 7:29 PM

Drivers who will hold up the #1 “fast lane” on the freeway oblivious to the flow of traffic. I’m pretty sure I know how they vote.

Phil February 23, 2022 - 9:26 PM - 9:26 PM

They drive! They’re on my roads, doing dumb things that endangered others. Only a few of us should be allowed to operate motor vehicles; the rest should be required to take public transportation or walk. The driving test should be like Navy Seals boot camp, where only the fittest get a license. No bicycles, either: they’re not competent to use even those.

Williekillagain February 23, 2022 - 9:27 PM - 9:27 PM

Two things really , People lining up at a red light who put a one ,to two car space in front of them so someone trying to get into a left hand turning lane are trapped and often times their rear end is left blowing in the wind. #2 is people going from a 25 speed zone into a 35 zone if it is safe to do so increase Your speed to the limit of that zone ,especially if its a single lane of travel. I understand some older folks are doing the best they can but these are not all older folks doing this .STOP looking in Your mirror at Me & look forward & do the speed limit! Will Ya?

turboDave February 23, 2022 - 9:37 PM - 9:37 PM

Old Farts and Fartettes, predominantly in Subaru’s and a few Priuses (Prii?) leaving 36 car lengths ahead of them, going slower than the flow, in either the middle lane or fast lane and when you try to change lanes and go around them, they speed up and won’t let you get ahead of them.

Concerned Citizen February 23, 2022 - 9:41 PM - 9:41 PM

Those guys that shut down a whole busy intersection and continuously burn rubber in a circle or figure-8 motion causing massive clouds of smoke to be exhaled into the atmosphere.

Oh, and those guys who drive 20 mph in a 35 with no vehicles around them except behind them while the light in front of them is green and then slam on the brakes the second the light turns yellow knowing damn well there was enough time to make it through the intersection even going at their rate of speed.

Yeah, those guys.

Girtyup February 23, 2022 - 9:44 PM - 9:44 PM

Exceed the Speed Limit.

Steven Powers February 24, 2022 - 10:20 AM - 10:20 AM

People need to get off their phones. At almost every stop I see people on their phone and on the freeway they usually are going a little slow and when you pass you see them focused on the phone

nytemuvr February 24, 2022 - 12:00 PM - 12:00 PM

When I got my Class 1 license, many moons ago, I learned to not get into a dither about the many bad drivers. People from all over the country drive differently than how I learned here. No matter where you go there’s ignorant drivers and people who shouldn’t be issued a DL. The one thing that pisses me off now are the folks that didn’t learn who has the RIGHT of way at four-way stop intersections. It seems that it’s a hard concept for many people to grasp. It’s just another thing to deal with navigating the roadways with amateurs.
