As we previously reported on Friday, the county portion of Kirker Pass Road will soon be getting a new name.
QUESTION: If you could choose a new name for Kirker Pass Road, what would it be?

Well since the road South of Concord Ave is Ygnacio Valley Rd and North is Kicker Pass. Lets just call the entire road Ygnacio. That would probably be the least cost as the sign have been designed and approved already. Besides I never liked the idea of any road having multiple names

Also Monument Blvd., Galindo, Concord Ave., Chilinpancingo?
Yes, just like all the other, I don’t changing the names of streets in the middle of road.. If they were not so common I might have a different view.
In Chicago there was a street where the east bound had one name and west bound was a different name.

So it’s OK to name Ygnacio Valley Rd after Ygnacio Sibrian (the guy who paid $500 to have Dr. Marsh murdered) but it’s not OK to name Kirker Pass after James Kirker (The guy who was paid to kill Apache raiders who murdered families in Mexico).

It was always a stupid idea. Taylor Blvd. became Willow Pass Road. Somehow the shopping centre lobbied to have a little portion named Sunvalley Blvd. I say change that portion back to being called Willow Pass Road.

If I remember correctly, Kirker Pass and Ygnacio Valley haven’t always connected. Kirker Pass was there first and Ygnacio Valley kept getting extended until they connected.
You’re right Cowellian – I just looked it up on Google Earth’s history – the 1939 (actually 31 December 1938) image shows Ygnacio Valley Road going as far as Oak Grove Road and stopping. Kirker Pass Road is there in mostly the same location, though.

How about Lead Foot Lane, the drivers come down Kirker Pass at excessive speeds that don’t even allow Concord residents to enter their own roads safely. Our terrific supervisors aren’t aware of that but they are awoke to changing street names from generations ago. What a joke….

For the love of God, can we please get rid of these “supervisors” . Can we please shut her up. She is the worst. How do we vote her out?
The history is what it is. African Americans were forced into slavery and brought over here. Then Asian immigrants were brought over and forced into slavery because they were not considered black or white. Women of all colors ,race, and ability were kidnapped and forced into the sex trade, children too. Can we please stop being forced into paying for the sins of our ancestors? Can we please stop trying to erase what happened and instead take the value of learning from it. “Erasing” it and hiding our heads in the sand does not make it better or go away. That is still turning a blind eye.
Let’s look at the good things history has gotten us. Penicillin and other modern medicine, child development understanding ( but we still can’t teach what is developmentally appropriate instead it’s testing and trash) , more women live through childbirth, modern sports , movies, technology, electricity, we can go to space and even the moon , cars, bikes, and much more.

Thank you, Karen Mitchoff, for undoing this past and ongoing travesty of justice!! I looked into how this might take pace a few years ago. It was complicated by the fact that Kirker Pass runs through three cities.It is repugnant to me to have anything named after a wanton murderer with no redeeming value. I hope you will seek input from indigenous people on the renaming and that this will be seen as a tiny bit of atonement for genocide.

@Louise – How is renaming a road going to help indigenous people? How is a name change “undoing the past”? It is hiding the past. Shouldn’t we learn from history (good and bad) instead of covering it up? How did changing the names of some sports teams help Native Americans? Perhaps a better use of funds would be to establish a scholarship program for Native American children. Maybe some job training programs for teens to improve their futures. Changing the name of a road is a waste of money. If the Board is so concerned about the well-being of Native Americans – they should put the funds to better use that would help them directly.
I think Louise should run for supervisior her mentality fits perfectly.
