A vehicle struck the front entrances of Safeway in the Clayton Station Shopping Center on Kirker Pass Rd. at Clayton Rd. just before 12:30 on Saturday morning, according to police.

The vehicle, which was described only as a gray Pontiac, fled the scene after the collision. It was last seen turning right onto Kirker Pass Rd.

It’s unknown exactly how much damage was done to the structure, but it appears most of the damage was to the metal railings outside of the doors.

No injuries were reported, and the store is still open for business.

Thanks to Kyle for the photos.

Back to Pittsburg they go.

+1 …any surveillance photos? … not that it will show anything we would be surprised at…

Reality February 19, 2022 - 8:38 AM - 8:38 AM

They were afraid of Covid and wanted to shop from their car to protect themselves and promote social distancing, I am sure the CDC can find a study to support this. It is about the science…..

You are an assuming but adorable sounding human. May God have mercy on your soul.

Johnson February 19, 2022 - 6:50 AM - 6:50 AM

Is that a picture of both entrances? That are like 200 ft apart? I feel like there is no way to hit both on accident there are pillars and shopping carts in between them. So tge o Lu way this could happen is if drove into one, back out and then drove over to the other one. Right?

Bill February 19, 2022 - 9:04 AM - 9:04 AM

Johnson, that is pictures of both entrances.

Anon February 19, 2022 - 9:44 AM - 9:44 AM

Yes, it’s both entrances/exits…..which tells me it was intentional.

Dr Jellyfinger February 19, 2022 - 10:58 AM - 10:58 AM

It’s probably a GPS’s fault.

Damn thing tells me to drive against traffic on “one way” streets and “turn right” on the middle of bridges.

Dr Jellyfinger February 19, 2022 - 7:50 AM - 7:50 AM

We will rebuild!

JRocks February 19, 2022 - 8:29 AM - 8:29 AM

They made a right turn on to what street? Kirker Pass? Sorry Mayor but that name now represents white supremacy and must never be used again.

Since it is a popular get away for criminals fleeing the racist law enforcement agencies of Clayton and Concord, I hereby put forth that from this day forward the road over the hill be re-named; “Free Pass”.

JazzMan February 19, 2022 - 10:16 AM - 10:16 AM

Totally off topic. The name changes has already been dealt with, and is in the works; and calling (unjustified) Clayton & Concord PD “racist” is wrong and irrelevant to the story. FYI, there is a blog to post “Talk about whatever”. Go there.

@JRocks
Good one.

PESFG February 19, 2022 - 12:17 PM - 12:17 PM

@JRocks. Or it could be renamed Ghettoway Road.

@Cowellian…Let’s all give Cowellian a rousing round of “jazz hands”!

To the police officer negative commenters. The anti police BS is over. Come out of your basement. Yes you can even bring Brandon.

Modus Operandi- Head over the hill, wreak havoc, head back over the hill to East County, plan for the next attack on society. Straight out of chapter one of the “How to be a successful criminal manual”.

A Pontiac huh?
I don’t think they’ve made them for 20 years!

Dr Jellyfinger February 19, 2022 - 6:32 PM - 6:32 PM

Pontiacs are great for leaving Oklahoma !

Time to ban Pontiacs at Safeway after midnight.

These vehicles are a danger to themselves and others.

They are headstrong and irresponsible.

WC February 19, 2022 - 2:36 PM - 2:36 PM

There’s the problem right there. He tried to drive in the exit doors. Next time use the entrance door!

When I worked at John’s Imported Liquor at Clayton &Treat … next to Togo’s (before they went corporate) … Ron and I were watching Taxi on a little TV set and a car pulled up to the storefront … Suddenly the car plowed through the front glass doors … a kid sat frozen … then he jumped out and scurried off into the night … back story is he was 12 and took the car for a joy ride … his father came to collect the car and pay up. That was summer 1984 and I was a senior at CVHS… that was a fun summer in Concord.

Austin February 19, 2022 - 6:27 PM - 6:27 PM

I thought that name was offensive now

Silva February 20, 2022 - 1:06 AM - 1:06 AM

Another disgruntled Safeway shopper. I can relate. I’ve felt like buying a Pontiac a few times for that same reason, when was a Safeway customer. I think the short supply of Pontiacs (even back then) was my only saving grace.

Lari February 20, 2022 - 3:25 PM - 3:25 PM

Could be unrelated, but when I was there a few hours earlier, (so 10:45/11 PM on Friday), I heard a very loud crack on the door as some guy was leaving. It was an aggressive sound, as if the door was hit with something. I even stopped to see if there was damage. He was a big guy and kind of strided back to a waiting car in the parking lot, got in passenger side. It was still there when I left, but didn’t see what kind of car it was..

Anon2you February 22, 2022 - 2:35 PM - 2:35 PM

Ghettoway Road is hilarious and I vote for that to be the NEW inclusive name, instead of Kirker Pass Road, named after a Mexican born-Californian pioneer who fought along WITH native Americans to protect others from another group of Native Americans who were trying to kill them…
